Xbox is advocating helping people learn games and being positive about successes. It's like when playing multiplayer PvP, encourage new players and teach them instead of screaming that they suck. If you're having a bad game, don't blame your team, cheer the ones doing better than you on.
As for Dark Souls, imo, it's better to tell others it's a very beatable game if you learn animation and sound queues, memorize patterns, etc and point them to good tutorials. They aren't that difficult of games and you can make them easier for people to complete and enjoy instead of making them easier games. Just share the knowledge instead of gate-keeping just so you feel better about yourself.
@XxEvilAshxX Those deep discounts aren't that good compared to PC sales and they're the same price on every console the game's on while usually happening at the same time. Yea, so competitive. Ubisoft competing with themselves, I'm sure they love that.
And Gamepass is nice but it's no more pro-consumer than Netflix with all the same faults. You pay every month/s and it adds up and you have to buy the games when they leave the service. Look at Rockstar putting their games on it and getting people buying dlc/mtx only to remove the game a few months later. Xbox is removing Forza. People will now have to buy them after already paying for however many months to have access.
@UltimateOtaku91 Buying again isn't in itself an issue, but skipping sequels to sell the old game again at full price with few changes or additions is why I think Nintendo are unbelievably greedy. Why not make Mario Kart 9 and sell 8 Deluxe on the side for a reasonable price for folks who missed 8?
Because they can't make the same amount of profit as on an already made game. It's not like MK 9 would sell less than 8 has. Sony is doing the same by porting these PS4 games to 5 they just release them at the same time.
The problem is that there's only one digital store on Xbox (or any console) and even on PC there's maybe 3 places to get xbox PC keys. You want to stop this? Demand Xbox be actually pro-consumer and either allow Epic or whomever to have a store on Xbox.
It isn't just an Activision thing, it's a lack of digital marketplace competition.
Yea I don't see brand new titles going to PS unless we get far into the generation and see how well consoles have been selling and what Gamepass numbers are, if they aren't too good. Unless the Xbox and Gamepass lose momentum, not happening.
Hines' is definitely hinting that release platforms will vary by title. I could see a slight chance that franchises that sold best on PS could get releases there in the future but a Series S cost less then a Switch OLED and is 5x better piece of hardware, buy one and support competition.
I'm expecting to love it but I have my doubts about the general public's opinion. If it's an amazing campaign, we should be ok but if not, it could damage the franchise and make people skeptical about Xbox Studios.
I don't even get how people got so much detail about the game from this reveal, it's like they've played it but no. I mean it's a basic and derivative trailer but SR was that until part three and the general consensus on part four was "an expansion pack to three".
Just feels like a situation where people are angry about a mostly overrated clone franchise that got it right once and is still doing what it always did. Maybe this one gets it right again, maybe it's bad. Who can say yet?
That's so weird to me. I mostly play rpgs because they're chill and full of reading, so definitely not addicting, at least not in a bad way. I seem to only get addicted to loot based games where the whole point is massive grind that's rarely rewarding. Good on him for breaking the habit, I think...
If they took the embarrassment of the last game serious, this could be good but I just feel like sports games are in big decline. Like NHL 22, it looks like they're trying this time, at least.
The problem will be whether or not what's there justifies the price in the mind of mainstream people because multiplayer will be free.
See even if us core fans enjoy the campaign the mainstream narrative will be, "it's not enough", " game's early access even though they delayed it a year" etc. unless it's an amazing campaign that's 15-20 hours long. Or they plan to add new ones every year for free like Avengers gets.
Will it be more like Halo 3's campaign or 5's? If it's like 5, for $60 and that's all it ever is, it'll severely damage the series' reputation.
I'd get Aliens, been thinking about it because I do love the franchise and co-op plus it would get me the 5k points on the summer punch card but I'm not sure it'll get supported as well as DRG has been, or WWZ.
That's a huge omission. It's kind of ominous in way, the way it sounds, this game is launching in a sort of early access. Which kind of explains why we're in August and it really doesn't feel like a new Halo is near release.
It still holds up and many of the retro styled indie fps games like Dusk owe it a lot and are great homages but this game really has great design that still stands out.
Crazy people. Reminds of people freaking out about shooting caged chickens in CoD. You could just ignore it. The fruit doesn't matter but I hope they add an achievement called banana masher just to spite these folks, lol.
@Fenbops Ah, I was just implying that I think the indie selection is better than a lot of the AAA on Gamepass, outside of Xbox and Bethesda's own. My bad, I didn't mean to be off topic too much.
Honestly, if you asked me if I'd rather Xbox focus on more games like Outsiders or Back4Blood instead of indies like Omno, Last Stop or Dodgeball Academia, I'd choose the Indies. I can't stick with repetitive/grind games.
Who said it was abandoned? Pretty sure anytime someone's asked Spencer about it, he's said they're just looking for the right way forward or something like that.
I had to do a full shutdown to get the update to start but I can't wait to get home and play later today. It's looking good and if anyone is upset about a technical preview having issues, they need to go outside, get some fresh air and uninstall Twitter.
Just picked it up today and I'm headed toward the witch. Really wowed by this game, sometimes simpler games stand out with their direction and design and this is one.
Eh, ESO and FFXIV are better as far as more traditional mmorpgs. What we need is an mmo that's more designed for console. Destiny was a step in the right direction but those games don't really do what a game made for these new gen consoles could do.
One of the few games from that gen that's not had a remaster or remake that I still go back and play often. While it has too few weapons compared to the first game, making it seem a simpler game it's still great overall. I really hope American McGee can get that third game made.
Halo 2. I was so happy to have two analog sticks coming from N64 and Dreamcast shooters. I remember thinking that the game was way easier than Quake on the N64 or Unreal Tournament on Dreamcast.
Haha, he's just happy to not have to keep considering the fans who want a portable Xbox.
Given the specs, this will be more powerful than minimum requirements likely for any upcoming Xbox games on Steam for awhile, since this thing is more powerful than a One S. So, we'll be able to play Halo, Forza, Gears, Sony games like Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn and emulate a game like BotW all on one device.
I don't think people realize how broken this will make things, lol.
I've got like 1000 Steam games but recently sold most of my pc gaming hardware due to the ridiculous value of used parts, and because I'm tired of big rigs, maintenance of them and the heat/power usage. My plan was to just game on Series S until someone did a handheld pc right. Well, I'm reserving one today. Can't wait to play games like MCC, Gears 5 and Sekiro natively on a portable.
If you're not heavy into pc gaming and the Steam ecosystem, and been watching handheld pcs progress then this value might not be so clear but this is the dream for a lot of people, flaws like storage aside. It's to Steam users what Switch is to Nintendo fans.
Sadly the media is leading people to think of this as a console and direct competitor to Switch but its demographic is different.
I hope they make a sweet black and red controller that connects directly to their servers. Design lab turned me into a controller head, lol. I even have a Wasabi Stadia controller on my shelf...
God I hope they bring back Banjo (and Viva Pinata) this gen. Some of us original fans are getting a little older and have kids, it would be awesome to play a new Banjo with them before they turn into CoD Bros or something.
I'd want an Xbox VR headset that's standalone and not just WMR that's green and white. Ideally, if they could work together, Xbox and Valve should make a headset people can afford and both make games for it. I think that's the only way anyone competes with Oculus and PSVR.
Yea, the Dualsense is an excellent controller, I'm only disappointed in the battery life but considering all it does, I guess it makes sense. I'd love to see Xbox adopt some of those features.
Xbox has the ips so it's just a matter of getting the games out. I agree with everyone about Conker and Banjo but Viva Pinata was a favorite of mine back when it was more relevant. Would love a new one. Plus they have so many studios that could make something brand new.
That would be great but it might be too soon. Maybe GI was just implying it's a good time simply because it's a Star Wars game and EA might be showing some kind of SW game. I'm 50/50 on that one.
Conker, for sure! Glad they still remember the little guy. Makes me wonder what Double Fine might be up to after Psychonaughts 2. They'd be a good fit for Conker.
I didn't quite understand GP until a year or so ago when Microsoft really doubled down on Age of Empires again and I tried it out on PC. Now I have a Series console and I'm always discovering new games I never would have played before.
Haters don't get it but it's really more about discovery and trying a game instead of blind buying. It isn't just about playing AAA games for cheap. Service deserves even more praise than it gets.
Looks like a surprisingly good month. I'll try all the GP games but The Ascent looks promising as well as Cris Tales. MSFS will be great to play on console as well if they did some work to make it more than just the straight sim that's on PC.
I don't mind the optional expansions being crazy. I did enjoy hot wheels and lego speed but don't want too much of it otherwise. The event lab sounds good, too but the normal races and open world exploration have to be there, even the signs and barn finds.

I sincerely hope no one buys this game unless they have a PS5. I do, I'll be buying it but people who are stuck on PS4 really need to send a message.
But they won't, they'll buy the same game twice like the Nintendo cult does because "they're good games".
