Remember the bizarre first-person shooter Atomic Heart that was shown back at Xbox's E3 Showcase? You'd be hard-pressed to forget it, as it was absolutely bonkers. It immediately captured our attention, especially with its inclusion into Xbox Game Pass on day one, and now the team at Mundfish has confirmed the game is in its final stages.

In a recent FAQ on Atomic Heart's Discord channel (thanks, Wfcctech), the game's release date cropped up. While the developers can't commit to a date just yet, they did confirm "the game is ready", and "is at the stage of polishing and final assembly".

"But you should know the main thing: never before were we able to say 'The game is ready, now it is at the stage of polishing and final assembly'. And now, quite recently, we said this phrase – and it is true. The long wait is almost over, we promise."

Mundfish added that developers are typically "very careless" about revealing their release dates. With communication between publishers and the Game Pass schedule, Atomic Heart's launch needs to take various factors into account.

"Usually, developers are very careless about the release date, they postpone it and keep saying 'tomorrow'. But everything is not as simple as it seems from the outside: the release date affects communication with publishers, it will affect the schedule of Xbox Game Pass, which Atomic Heart is a part of as well as featuring in stores and the global network of major releases (where everything is adjusted to fit each other)."

While there's no confirmed release date, it doesn't sound as though we'll be waiting too long to get our hands on Atomic Heart. If you haven't checked it out already, we recommend diving into some gameplay and attempting to get your head around it all. Imagine a combination of Bioshock and Fallout - that's what Atomic Heart looks like, and we can't wait.
