Remember the bizarre first-person shooter Atomic Heart that was shown back at Xbox's E3 Showcase? You'd be hard-pressed to forget it, as it was absolutely bonkers. It immediately captured our attention, especially with its inclusion into Xbox Game Pass on day one, and now the team at Mundfish has confirmed the game is in its final stages.
In a recent FAQ on Atomic Heart's Discord channel (thanks, Wfcctech), the game's release date cropped up. While the developers can't commit to a date just yet, they did confirm "the game is ready", and "is at the stage of polishing and final assembly".

"But you should know the main thing: never before were we able to say 'The game is ready, now it is at the stage of polishing and final assembly'. And now, quite recently, we said this phrase – and it is true. The long wait is almost over, we promise."
Mundfish added that developers are typically "very careless" about revealing their release dates. With communication between publishers and the Game Pass schedule, Atomic Heart's launch needs to take various factors into account.
"Usually, developers are very careless about the release date, they postpone it and keep saying 'tomorrow'. But everything is not as simple as it seems from the outside: the release date affects communication with publishers, it will affect the schedule of Xbox Game Pass, which Atomic Heart is a part of as well as featuring in stores and the global network of major releases (where everything is adjusted to fit each other)."
While there's no confirmed release date, it doesn't sound as though we'll be waiting too long to get our hands on Atomic Heart. If you haven't checked it out already, we recommend diving into some gameplay and attempting to get your head around it all. Imagine a combination of Bioshock and Fallout - that's what Atomic Heart looks like, and we can't wait.

This game...first I was so.impressed I got suspicious and then those rumours started about it being fake and I began to believe them until E3, and now I'm back to foaming at the mouth just to see more haha
Really looking forward to this game. Massive fan of Bioshock and Fallout, so it is a very tasty combination. I saw a trailer for it, what feels like a couple of years ago, and so the wait has been torturous, the fact that it will be available on the GamesPass too is simply the icing on the cake. GamesPass removes much of the risk, for gamers, when diving into new games and franchises. The feeling of having bought a dud is vanquished when you can simply try it out on the GamesPass...
Really looking forward to this game. Can’t wait to see the launch trailer!
Oh fantastic! By the time I've finished The Ascent, I'm in the last mission and playing solo it's gonna take a while.. then this will be out! Game Pass kicking out hit after hit after hit...
This game was a great get for Game Pass. I think it's a very, under the radar game that will surprise a lot of people when it releases. Lots of Bioshock vibes to it.
Had my eye on this ever since the reveal trailer way back in 2017 so this is great news. Game looks incredible.
This looks pretty interesting. That E3 trailer with that Russian gypsy anime song went really well with it. I'll definitely be trying this out.
I can't wait for this, it looks bonkers, fresh af. I hope we get a little heads up on release, for those without GP that have to pay.
MS deserves a lot of credit for making Game Pass compelling. The idea was already in our minds, a 'Netflix' for games, but MS is the first to make it a reality. Good on them for having games like this on the service.
