Last night saw an array of social media drama, as the topic of Starfield being an Xbox exclusive surfaced once again. Following on from that, one industry insider reiterated the game will not be coming to other consoles and neither will The Elder Scrolls 6.
According to journalist Jeff Grubb, not only will Starfield be an Xbox exclusive title, but The Elder Scrolls 6 is also "planned" to be following in the same footsteps. Of course, this is not confirmation, but at the same time it's not overly surprising. Xbox has previously said future Bethesda titles will be delivered on platforms where Game Pass exists.
With this being said, it's possibly not all bad news for PlayStation players. A statement from Bethesda's Pete Hines at Gamescom 2021 revealed that he wasn't sure whether Bethesda fans are "done ever playing stuff on PlayStation", explaining that he simply "[doesn't] know the answer to that right now.”
While it seems some Bethesda titles may still come to PlayStation - the recent remaster of Quake is a good example - it sounds as though the likes of Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 are nailed-on to be permanent Xbox (and PC) exclusives.

Crazy people are still grasping at these straws, they really just need to accept reality. If I paid billions for a box of toys I'm not sure I'd let anyone else play with them either!
This is nothing bad. You can get gamepass on Xbox, PC, mobile app and web browser. Not very hard to get into the Xbox ecosystem and super low cost.
Gaming outlets love this supposed ambiguity around a situation. Yes, this headline is honest, but you know future ones from other outlets won't be. Stories like this will always get clicks, and most outlets love it.
Another rehashed topic and articles for clicks, this whole saga has already been resolved and the majority have moved on. How many more times is this going to be talked about?
90% of playstation player base don't even care about bethesdas games and the 10% that do most have moved on, but there's still some who will just keep asking and asking even after the games released 😂
Well, hold on a second there. It wasn't one thousand percent confirmed as an Xbox exclusive and if we look at the speed of Phil Spencer eye lids as he speaks about exclusivity you'll find that it's morse code for "maybe" so...just saying, it maybe coming to PS5.
I should point out I'm joking haha
@UltimateOtaku91 cheesecakes
@The_New_Butler This made me chuckle hahaha
@The_New_Butler You forgot to call it Welfare Pass, their new name for it (which yes is pretty crappy, not so much for Xbox fans but what it says for their opinions on people who've hit an unfortunate patch)
As Xbox have always said "Future Bethesda titles will be delivered on platforms where Game Pass exists".
That could mean ANY platform, all PlayStation owners (or Nintendo for that matter) need to hope for is that they add Microsoft's 'Game Pass' service to their hardware.
Yes, it means Microsoft gathering a nice regular chunk of cash from their subscribers, but it's something for PS owners to wish for.
Why does Pete Hines keep running his mouth. Phil just come out and say it clearly.
My favourite is when they don’t want to give Xbox any of their money so they declare they they will play the game on PC instead…
…
I wish I knew the financials of GamePass. Almost all developers that speak about it are enthusiastic about it. Turning the stone over, I am positive there are some negative feelings towards it on the backend/financial side of things, but developers are also reaching a much larger audience than before.
If Take Two puts up NBA 2K and GTA V from time to time, then you know it is a cash cow.
Besides, doesn't the PS5 have a web browser?
@Stnkygrngo you're thinking of PS5 users using gamepass cloud? That's not a bad idea. If they got the speed for it, not a bad idea at all.
Microsoft and Bethesda could clear this up once and for all and just say "elder scrolls 6 will not be releasing on PlayStation" nothing ambiguous about that
@FriendlyOctopus
Exactly! They still buy into the infrastructure, but at that point, its no different than Steam or Epic
Well yeah. And Gamepass day one. Can’t even imagine paying $70 for games.
@Widey85 it's funny they say that, considering ps fanboys are always talking about "not paying $70! Gonna wait for a sale" sounds a little ironic. Sounds like something people without money would say.
@UltimateOtaku91 90% of PlayStation players don’t even care about Bethesda games? Did you pull that figure out of your arse, I think so.
Bethesda aren’t just ES and Fallout, they’re DOOM, Wolfenstein and many others, that is such a narrow minded statement.
@K1LLEGAL hahaha I’ve never thought of it that way 🤣 all PS5 owners have high end PC’s anyway so they don’t miss out on anything.
@Fenbops yes inknow Bethesda do other games, and those games which have sales between 2-4 million on sony consoles out of 120 million ps4 consoles sold.......
For example Doom (2016) total sales on ps4 is 2.9million yet fallout and elder scrolls sales eclipse that.
If go as far as to say around half of people who buy consoles just use them for entertainment and the odd yearly releases like fifa and cod and free games like fortnite. Outside of fallout and elder scrolls not many playstation players care for the other Bethesda games, and sales figures shows that.
Basically to my original comment, out of the 120 million that bought a ps4 there's only a minority that care about Bethesda games.
They wouldnt spend the sort of money they did to let the biggest franchises still be shipped off to rival platforms.
Wolfenstein, Doom sequels will go the same way.
Common sense and not a headliner.
When they say some games might still appear on PS, they're clearly talking about ESO and Fallout 76.
This is going to be big news in 2028.
@UltimateOtaku91 That might be because PS owners aren't one single block, and are in fact made up of different kinds of gamers.
I mean, even the big games like Spider-man "only" sold 20m copies. That means that over 80% of the 120m PS4 owners didn't care about the game. Are we now to make the argument that ps owners don't care about marvel or first party titles?
The other Bethesda games got similar receptions on other platforms. Doom 2016 didn't sell a load more on xbox, and Prey and Evil Within didn't light the world on fire anywhere. I think 3m copies sold on one platform is a decent amount of sales. And I'm pretty sure there was a lot of buzz on PS about Death loop, ghostwire and Starfield.
@Richnj I agree with what your saying, my point was to that other guy saying my original comment was narrow minded, which was that only around 10% of the ps4 player base as a whole would care about Bethesdas games.
I'm not saying the games are crap and don't sell well
@The_New_Butler you had me in the first half there, not gonna lie.
@Stnkygrngo I mean, most of the most glowing testimonials of Game Pass seem to come from indies and mid-tier (double A) studios. A lot of those indie developers are their own accountants by necessity, so whatever revenue they’re getting from it must be sufficient enough to keep the lights on etc.
And that’s why ya get both consoles folks
@The_New_Butler absolutely, I think we’ll never truly get the full picture of how many studios Game Pass has actually saved in the long run; but from a consumer perspective, it also enables the creation of more risky, unique experiences that otherwise wouldn’t have seen the light of day.
I'm still p'd off that Toejam & Earl never made it to SNES. I thought it was a sure bet!
The only ambiguity is because maybe there will be a time when you could have Game Pass on PS5 and play it that way in the future. It may sound 'impossible' now, but maybe they can bring Game Pass to Browser and technically could play on PS5's Browser too so arguably its on PS5...
However I don't expect any major AAA new release to also get an official 'Playstation' release inc ES6. Microsoft don't care what 'hardware' you have or want to play on, they want you in their ecosystem. Even if you have a base XB1, you can play next gen Xbox games with Game Pass and so some way or another, I can see Game Pass being accessible on PS5 too and therefore ES6 and Starfield could be playable on a PS5 even if technically, they are still playing on Virtual Xboxes in the cloud.
@NOLIMITGHST well it is why you get an Xbox. Not sure I see the reason to get the PS5.
Yea I don't see brand new titles going to PS unless we get far into the generation and see how well consoles have been selling and what Gamepass numbers are, if they aren't too good. Unless the Xbox and Gamepass lose momentum, not happening.
Elder Scrolls 6? An exclusive?
Yes I agree with that.
With so many more exclusives to come hopefully. Otherwise what would be the point of expanding Xbox Game studios 1st party.
I'll wait until it comes to my Alarm Clock like Skyrim has.
I just need a release date. I’m playing on PC anyway.
