Rise of the Tomb Raider. While I don't think any of them are bad at all, that was one of my favorite games of the last generation, something I can't say about any of the others (being amongst my favorite of any generation). Tomb Raider was pretty good though. I was a bit disappointed by Shadow, but I would like to give it another shot at some point.
My memories of the 3 old games have vanished for the most part, but I do at least remember enjoying them. Definitely not on the same level as Tomb Raider and Rise though obviously.
@Tasuki Exactly. I've yet to have an issue on my Xbox because I actually look. I did accidentally put my PS5 in rest mode once when I first got that since things are different on there, so maybe I can excuse them for doing it once, but still. Look.
Given the sizable rise in popularity of this kind of game over the last year, I'd be surprised if this didn't do well.
I know Microsoft ultimately doesn't care since it cares more about Game Pass than anything, but I expect it's popularity to mainly be on PC since it's releasing on both Xbox and PC. If it was an Xbox only title, games like this could surprisingly move some consoles given their popularity right now.
Now that they've explained the price increase, for current subscribers, this doesn't matter. It only effects new subscribers, unless I am misunderstanding something.
Although I do wonder how things will work once my Ultimate subscription is up in late 2023. I still refuse to pay $15 for Ultimate even though it is a great value for some. I play too many 3rd party titles (and also own a PS5, so I don't feel I use it enough to justify paying $15 a month. I would have just let my subscription run out and then renew it again, but someday the supply of these cards that are still $60 for a year will eventually run out, and I also wonder if they will try to convert them to 6 months since they already do stuff like that for Gold codes for Ultimate.
That would be doubling the price of Xbox Live Gold. The only reason I have Game Pass is because you can add it onto Xbox Live Gold for up to 3 years for only $15. I wouldn't pay $15 a month for it (it's good, but no), nor would I pay $120 a year for Gold, so I'd be gone if this happens unless they severely discount Ultimate for a year like they did with Gold.
@TheFrenchiestFry That is true about Atlus games on Xbox, but I wouldn't mind Microsoft buying Sega regardless. It's possible that Xbox owners would be willing to buy their games more now since Persona seems to be bigger than it's even been. Having Yakuza as a full-time exclusive would be a big enough deal too.
As for Ubisoft, I know they aren't the most well liked company, but I still highly enjoy some of their games and obviously they sell. Not sure if Microsoft would be willing to that big or not, as Ubisoft would obviously be expensive, but that would be a game changer for me. I'm not going to be without Assassin's Creed, so that would be bye bye PS5 and hello Series X for me.
I know it takes time to actually make these deals happen, but it would be nice to see something actually happen soon rather than continued talks about what could be.
@nessisonett Agreed. Also kind of bad considering there was an article (I think) earlier this month talking about more of the Final Fantasy series coming to Game Pass at some point. Wouldn't it make sense to try to have as much of it as possible on the service instead when/if more of it gets added in the future? Game Pass is great, but the fact that they have to drop games in order to add more games to the service is a shame.
@masofdas No offense, but there's been plenty of articles (even just recently) saying what's coming over the course of the year. At least planned releases since obviously there could be delays. The Medium at the end of this month, Scorn, The Ascent, Psychonauts 2, Hitman 3 next week, Stalker 2, and Bright Memory Infinite are just some that come to mind without looking. Not a ton of what you would call "heavy hitters", but still a solid group.
@blockfight Exactly. Otherwise it was almost pointless to buy ZeniMax. Yes, I know they will still make money whether they are exclusive to Xbox or not, but most of the time the whole point of buying developers is to strengthen your 1st party portfolio.
I'll cut them a bit of slack if something like Elder Scrolls 6 ends up being multi-platform since it's been in development for years before this acquisition, but anything new like this has to be exclusive. Having the majority of the games from them being exclusive to Xbox (and PC of course) moving forward is a necessity to help try to get people to switch to Xbox.
@Souldin Consider it a miracle that we are even getting another Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game release. I get preferring physical releases, and this is a prime example of why, but at the same time there's no choice and no reason to pass on something you really like when it's a miracle we are even going to be able to play/own it again.
@Gaming365247 True, but I still think it deserves to be up there, if only to celebrate the fact that Microsoft managed to get it on Game Pass on day 1.
Personally, I would have put Streets of Rage 4 on there instead of Cyberpunk. The game will be great in time, but I would consider it an Incomplete for it's review/the year. It seems like it runs the best out of any console on the Series X, but still, it's not finished. Oh well in the end though. We all know Streets of Rage 4 was one of the best of the year for Xbox.
@Justifier Correct. At least sometimes a patch will just overwrite the previous patch, or at worst will only add a portion of it's actual size to the total if it's a big patch. Obviously Day 1 patches likely add to the total size completely, but that's irrelevant here.
@everynowandben Like the other person who responded, I can't confirm either, but if it does on the One/One X with the Ultimate Edition, it should on Series X no problem. Microsoft has made it pretty seamless to jump from the One to the Series X, unlike Sony in some ways.
@Dezzy70 Correct, Control on Game Pass is just the regular Xbox One release. You would have to get the Ultimate Edition to get the next gen version/upgrade whenever it releases next year.
As a PlayStation fan, this was the one game that almost pulled me over to this side. Looks really intriguing and I hope it turns out to be really good like Bloober Team's Observer: System Redux. Great job improving that one for next gen.
I agree that Microsoft should snatch up Bloober Team. It wouldn't be a high profile acquisition like Bethesda obviously, but I think some of their acquisitions were even better, like Obsidian and Ninja Theory. Bloober Team would fit right in.
@NEStalgia The regular edition of Control is not getting patched for the Series X. The only way to play the Series X version when they release it is to get the Ultimate Edition.
For a time, it was nice that the store had actual user reviews when PSN did not. You could rate games on there, but that was useless really when you couldn't read what people thought. I'm assuming maybe people were abusing it now (like the Metacritic fiasco with The Last of Us Part II and such) and that's why they took it away? Otherwise it makes no sense.
If I still wanted one, I would likely not even bother. Any time Walmart.com has put up the PS5 or the Series X, I read that the vast majority of people didn't get one. If I was confident there was a real chance of getting one from them, then things would be different. I'd rather keep waiting than getting mad/disappointed all over again at this point.
It's a shame, but not exactly a bad thing. It gets itself away from Cyberpunk 2077, if that doesn't get delayed again. Another month and a half isn't the end of the world, especially with several games being worth playing at launch (even if people like to say that the Series X has no games worth playing yet, which is bs).
I may be the only one, but this kind of rubs me the wrong way a bit. It seems like they only really care about Game Pass, and putting it on competitor's platforms kind of defeats the purpose of continuing to support them as your platform of choice.
@Richnj It would be great if Microsoft could get BioWare, but I doubt they'd be able to buy EA. They are even bigger than Ubisoft. I actually wouldn't mind Microsoft buying Ubisoft, as while they are a mess right now in the management department, they have some interesting franchises and could use somebody like Microsoft to straighten them out. Just clean house with their management and get the company back on track, even if some of their games are still pretty solid (like Assassin's Creed).
I would expect their games to have the same performance on the PS5. I know they favor Xbox, which I imagine is why this discussion started, but I was curious if they put out the same info for PS5 and saw they didn't.
I like it aside from the status screen (or whatever you want to call it) popping up first every time you open up the guide. It's an annoying and pretty much useless addition from at least a couple of months ago. If it just went straight to the guide instead of having to close it every time, it would be almost perfect.
@InterceptorAlpha The Outer Worlds was only multi-platform because it was already planned to be released on the PS4 before Microsoft bought Obsidian. If they had bought them before it was planned to be released on all consoles, then it would have been an Xbox exclusive. If they ever make a sequel, obviously that will be an Xbox exclusive.
Immortals by a long shot for me. If the end of the year wasn't so stacked (at least play time wise with Valhalla and Cyberpunk), I'd probably be getting that one Day 1.
I actually like the current regular UI, so them keeping it and improving it in many ways (along with the Guide seeming to be nicely streamlined) is great to me. I just hope they stick with it long term this time.
It's possible. One thing is for sure, the delay for Halo Infinite doesn't make a difference for me as I wasn't that interested in it in the first place. I've kind of grown tired of the series and was more looking forward to new Series X franchises/games like The Medium.
The actual event was ok, but nothing that screamed for me to change my mind about not getting a Sony console for the first time ever since I only want one console this time around. I also still think the PS5's design is awful, and that's not me being a fanboy or anything. I just don't like it at all, even if I appreciate the effort to try something different.
Normally I would consider waiting on a remaster, but given that Destroy All Humans is already Xbox One X Enhanced, I wonder how much a remaster could do for it over that. Either way, a great start to the month with two good games.
Some also forget that the Series X will actually have exclusives around launch with 3rd party games like The Medium, so things seem to be coming around.
Blades, but this poll also is not complete as it should have 8 choices and not 7. The last two Xbox One dashboards aren't the same, so they shouldn't be lumped together. Kinda messes with the results when two different ones are getting votes.
