This isn't me ripping into the game as I still plan on playing this at some point sooner or later as I enjoyed the first one, but like somebody said over at Push Square, it seems a bit unfair that this game will get to coast along while Gotham Knights gets ripped apart. Both are new gen only and both run at only 30 FPS with no performance options. Innocence runs at 60 FPS on Series X and PS5.
In the end, it's definitely not a dealbreaker, but Team Asobo should be criticized for it just like WB Montreal is getting ripped apart and should have been mentioned in the 30 FPS article from this morning.
@YourNameHere Same here. At least on the surface, it is a really rough group and possibly their worst that I can remember. I know some have said that now they can finish The Walking Dead, but a ton of people have already played the whole thing years ago, so I wouldn't consider that a saving grace either.
@Krzzystuff This will not be a Game Pass title. I'll give you forgetting since it's been quite a while since this was announced, but it coming to Game Pass was never mentioned. It would also likely say it on the thumbnail in the video above if it was.
I think this was originally supposed to be a timed console exclusive on Xbox, but it's taken so long that it's coming to PS5 and Switch now too.
People on PC that bought Bright Memory were supposed to get this for free, but I suppose console owners get screwed.
I know making these massive RPGs takes a lot of work, but you would think Bethesda would be big enough to have Elder Scrolls 6 far enough along that it wouldn't still be in pre-production along with making Starfield. Yikes, at this rate all the jokes above will come true, and frankly it's ridiculous. If you can't do more than one game at a time, give one of them to somebody else.
@Banjo- IGN should correct themselves too since they clearly think Dotemu is the developer too. They are definitely one of the best beat-em-up publishers in the business today though, with an argument that they are probably the best at this point.
If they had just said it was going to be deep dives of games we had already seen on Sunday, I would have been more forgiving, but they also said it would include new trailers when they first announced this. It wasn't until right before the show that Aaron said it would just be deep dives and that's basically it.
I'll say it again, but it's still disappointing that none of their other major 1st party exclusives made an appearance when they had a total of 3 hours worth of shows. There's no reason why Hellblade 2 or Avowed wouldn't be far enough along to be able to show some gameplay. They could have used this show to show a bit of them off along with the deep dives.
The format is good with doing the big show and then have deep dives follow, but when 90% of their upcoming catalog is sitting in limbo while they show off timed exclusives and indie games for the most part (including the deep dives this time), it's not hard to be disappointed. I gave this one an E, which is roughly what I would have graded Sunday's show (maybe a D just because it was mostly all gameplay, even if it was for mostly games that I could care less about).
@themightyant Not entirely. New trailers would give the impression they were showing games that weren't already at the show, which amounted to maybe 2 or 3 games.. Almost everything was just a deep dive of stuff that was shown, which is all well and good, but at 90 minutes it was still a missed opportunity to show some things that are more than 12 months away but still should have something to show beyond a CGI trailer. Still no Hellblade 2, Avowed, Gears 6, etc., which are all games that should be far enough along to at least show a little gameplay and to not have them continue to sit in limbo without any release window (Gears 6 technically not being announced yet).
In the end, it's clear they were hoping that Redfall and Starfield would be enough for people to overlook the fact that none of their other major first party exclusives made any sort of appearance in 3 hours worth of showcases. It's weird they didn't even announce when Deathloop would be coming to Xbox since it's 1 year will be up later this year.
I thought it was pretty mediocre overall. Way too many timed exclusives, with a lot of them being indie games that are already 75% of what Game Pass is, and not enough first party exclusives or anything we don't already know about. Sure, it was great to finally get to see extended gameplay of Redfall and Starfield, but where were any of the other major 1st party exclusives? The only other major announcement was Forza, which is fine, but that's another we already knew was coming. Some will say the Kojima game, but it was literally just an announcement that he's making a game for them.
@Dezzy70 Exactly. Normally you could say that's not bad, but given how many studios Microsoft owns now, it should easily be more than 5. He did basically say at least, but still, if it's only 5 or 6 then that's disappointing, not encouraging. A big reason why would be the fact that this means that most of the really anticipated games other than Starfield and Redfall are still a ways off, along with there only being 1 or 2 games we didn't already know was coming out next year since it's obvious Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo would release pretty much right after their timed exclusivity is up.
People are complaining that it's straying too far away from the games and such, but they basically said from the beginning that this is going to be their own thing and not canon. Yet people still complain even though they were told it wouldn't be that way.
I'm not saying all of the changes they've done have been good choices, but I am willing to let most things slide because I know this isn't trying to be the video games. I will say that the sex scene never should have happened though as apparently Spartans lose their sex drive, and he should be in his armor more even though he's more John than Master Chief in their universe.
It's really weird and borderline amazing that we've still yet to see much of any gameplay from Swansong, yet it is coming out next week. That is unless you go on YouTube. A strange lack of hype from the publisher for the game at the very least.
Most of the weekend will be Cyberpunk 2077 on my PS5. Might play some Halo 3 on my Series X if I have some extra time as well since I'm not quite done with the campaign yet.
@Chaudy I'd be shocked if we got Hellblade 2 before 2023. Yes, we technically did get a gameplay trailer for it already, but that was it so far. I expect it to be a part of the June showcase, but at the same time, I find it hard to believe it will make it out this year either given that we have seen very little of it so far. There's a 0% chance Gears 6 comes out this year. There would have been something from it by now if it was given how important that game is.
As for delaying both Starfield and Redfall, it's all well and good since it's better to delay than release a mess of a game, but this also points to major weaknesses that are still present with Xbox no matter how many studios they buy. They have 0 guaranteed AAA exclusives for this year now (that could change next month), with 3 games releasing in a handful of months last year being it for them so far this generation. Also, like others have said, they still announce things way too early just to try to say "hey, we've got games now!". Announcing the release date for Starfield that was roughly a year and a half away was asinine, and now we're still left wondering when all of the potential they have shown with acquisitions and teaser trailers will finally start being fulfilled.
@Corc11 True, but it's easy to have assumed otherwise if you aren't familiar with all of that since you would assume it's a JRPG if you just go by the media that has covered the game. Obviously I'd be a part of that group since I didn't know much about it until recently.
@awp69 I have not. I primarily game on my PS5, and it's not on there. I only have time to use my Series X sparingly right now, so a lot of games like that get passed over. If I was primarily a Switch gamer, I probably would have played it.
@suikoden True, but when a review here is that negative, it's usually not a good sign. It still seems to be nothing special overall, but this is the very low end of the review scores, so I might end up giving this a shot someday instead of dismissing it already.
It's a shame we can't get a good indie JRPG. Several have dropped on Game Pass and almost every single one is average at best. I give up on hoping we'll get a good one outside of ones from bigger developers dropping on Game Pass like Scarlet Nexus.
That said, I hope others that were looking forward to ones like this get some enjoyment out of it.
@Chaudy Yeah, it was probably to hide the fact that it is merely a decent game that is incredibly short (even shorter than probably most expected). That way the pre-orders are still locked in. I mean, I'll still likely play it at some point, but only because it's on Game Pass. There's no way I'd pay for a 2 hour game until it was $5 or $10. $20 is even too much imo.
A rare time when I'll be playing both at some point. Trek to Yomi is a given. but Citizen Sleeper seems intriguing as well. Unless reviews for both are surprisingly awful, I will be playing both at some point.
Edit: Citizen Sleeper reviews are good so far. 82/100 after 5 reviews.
I already have Trek to Yomi pre-installed. Might check out Citizen Sleeper at some point down the road. It looks like it could be pretty good, whatever it actually is, and seems to have a really good soundtrack.
Halo 3, which I started a few days ago as I continue my slow progression through the Halo series to get to Halo Infinite's campaign. It not receiving a big anniversary remaster like Halo 2 did was surprising to find out given how good and big Halo 3 was. It's also surprising that the game went back to in-engine cinematics rather than the flashy CGI cinematics that Halo 2 got.
Regardless, it's the game itself that matter most, and it's been really good so far as expected.
@Kingleo31 Couldn't have said it better myself. There's a lot riding on their June showcase. Another CGI-fest with announcements of games years away and everything continues to just be potential without anything much to give confidence that it will be fulfilled would do more damage than anything imo.
With that said, I expect them to actually do it right. I would hope they realize having 500 developers doesn't mean anything if we don't get real evidence that there will be many payoffs from it all.
This is the rare time I will actually vote (and vote positive) since most months I completely ignore, but this one actually has 3 games I'll gladly claim. Party Animals is the one I'll pass on as I'm not a Viva Piñata fan and it's supposed to be horrible anyways.
A shame that it seems like people are just so used to voting that the month sucks without any thought because most months do suck. There's no way that "They're terrible" should be winning by any means this time around though. Yes, I can understand people might not have heard of the two Xbox One games, but look them up. I'm glad I did because they are both supposed to be good games. They might not be for everyone, but they are good games.
This is shocking that next month has multiple games I'll gladly claim. I had never heard of either of the two Xbox One games, but after looking them up they both sound intriguing. A shame the first The Inner World is $14.99 and not even cheaper right now, so while I'll claim the sequel, I likely won't play it anytime soon. Yoku's Island Express sounds like it has loads of potential. I've never played Hydro Thunder Express, so that's a definite claim as well. I'll skip Viva Piñata though as I've never been much of a fan and Party Animals is supposed to be a giant turd. Still, a great month when there's 3 solid games out of 4.
They need this one to be pretty good, especially with the negative press they've gotten this year with a few of their 1st party studios appearing to be struggling. Have a really good show by showing actual gameplay of several anticipated titles, release dates/windows for several others like Redfall and Hellblade 2, and more Game Pass bombshells.
A really good showcase would go a long way to showing that the news about a few of their studios wasn't anything to really worry about and that they really do have things going on the right track, not just a bunch of potential and nothing to show for it.
@RevGaming It probably really started when Microsoft bought Bethesda. A purchase of that magnitude started the rumors of who would be next, and things snowballed from there.
It's one thing to buy small developers like Ninja Theory and Obsidian. It's another to buy two of the largest publishers in the world. I gave them the benefit of the doubt with Bethesda as it was shrewd business, but in the end it probably would have been better it never happened given what followed.
At one time I would have been on the side of people wanting Microsoft to buy Ubisoft. Maybe if they had bought them instead of Activision, but really since the PS5 is my main platform over the Series X, I'd rather just keep Ubisoft games multiplatform so I have the option to play them on my console of choice and I continue to use my Series X as my secondary one.
@Bdbrady I would love to be wrong, but it's hard not to be skeptical. The next few months will be key. If very little is still shown by then, then it's not coming out in November.
@Bdbrady I've thought there was very little chance Starfield was making it's release date the moment it was announced in the E3 trailer, but the fact that they still show zero gameplay for it isn't a great sign.
Same goes for Redfall. If Redfall is pushed all the way back to the Winter, then there goes any chance of me playing it with God of War Ragnarok and Gotham Knights coming sometime around then.
I guess I'll have to finally pay for Streets of Rage 4 at some point when it's on sale if I want to play it again. Like @themcnoisy said, it's one of the best games on Game Pass, and I half expected it to be on there forever at this point since it will have been on there for nearly two years exactly when it leaves.
I already played it and beat it once on Xbox, and I just recently bought it (along with the DLC) on PlayStation during a sale a couple of months ago, so it's not likely I will end up actually buying it on Xbox since I'll just replay it on my PS5 for trophies when I want to replay it. Still, it'd be well worth paying to keep it whenever it goes on sale again if I was an Xbox-only gamer.
Still going strong with Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5. I'll pass the 100 hour mark at some point today and I still have a decent amount of missions to do.
I'll be checking out Chinatown Detective Agency at some point. It looks like it's a pretty solid little game.
Xbox is on quite a run of a solid to really good indie games on Game Pass lately, unlike prior where there were a lot of decent to bad ones being added left and right.
I would consider myself more of a PlayStation fan than an Xbox one even though I am a fan of both, and I'd consider myself to be pretty disappointed. The one thing I was hoping for was being able to download PS3 games since I stupidly got rid of my PS3 a while back, and they still refuse to put in the work to make them downloadable. I know the Cell processor was extremely complicated, but I find it hard to believe that they couldn't get it to work on the PS5 if they really wanted to. This offers nothing for me to consider paying more than I already do, unlike Game Pass.
This being the disappointment I feared may eventually lead me to switch back to Xbox some day. I'm not going to do any crazy knee jerk reaction like that right now, but you never know in time.
@Casco He did it so the girl would trust him as she obviously wanted to kill him before he did that and actually made himself vulnerable. She had already brought up him removing the helmet before things went sideways.
This would be a rare time when I believe Phil is spewing some BS. All Xbox truly cares about is Game Pass. They've made that quite obvious recently. They still make consoles because that's still the main way people consume their content, and there are plenty of 3rd party titles that will never appear on Game Pass, so Xbox needs a console for those games as well.
I honestly believe that if they could, Microsoft would stop making consoles and just release a Game Pass stick like they are rumored to be making and have everything on there. Obviously that's not possible, so technically what Phil said isn't a complete lie, but their commitment is still to Game Pass more than anything and him trying to spin it otherwise is just BS.
@Medic_Alert I'd still say that buying physical copies for games on PS5 is still worthwhile even if there are day 1 updates and added modes. I bought Horizon Forbidden West and was able to install the whole game on day 1 except for the patch, which given their really good compression, was small (unlike a lot of them on Xbox unfortunately). That's a near 90 GB game that I had installed in less than 45 minutes. Almost all Sony exclusives are like that where the whole day 1 game is on the disc.
I'm assuming this is like most other offers like this where it's only available for new subscribers since I subscribed about a month ago to start watching the second season of Picard. Oh well.

Re: Report Suggests Ubisoft Could Be 'The Next Big Gaming Acquisition'
At one time I would have been on the side of people wanting Microsoft to buy Ubisoft. Maybe if they had bought them instead of Activision, but really since the PS5 is my main platform over the Series X, I'd rather just keep Ubisoft games multiplatform so I have the option to play them on my console of choice and I continue to use my Series X as my secondary one.
Re: Talking Point: What May 2022 Xbox Games With Gold Do You Want?
Anything remotely decent that wasn't made 15 years ago...
Re: Don't Worry, Bethesda's Redfall Hasn't (Yet) Been Delayed To Winter 2022
@Bdbrady I would love to be wrong, but it's hard not to be skeptical. The next few months will be key. If very little is still shown by then, then it's not coming out in November.
Re: Don't Worry, Bethesda's Redfall Hasn't (Yet) Been Delayed To Winter 2022
@Bdbrady I've thought there was very little chance Starfield was making it's release date the moment it was announced in the E3 trailer, but the fact that they still show zero gameplay for it isn't a great sign.
Same goes for Redfall. If Redfall is pushed all the way back to the Winter, then there goes any chance of me playing it with God of War Ragnarok and Gotham Knights coming sometime around then.
Re: Another Four Games Will Leave Xbox Game Pass Soon (April 18-30)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 16-17)
Still going strong with Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5. I'll pass the 100 hour mark at some point today and I still have a decent amount of missions to do.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 9-10)
Another weekend with Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5...
Re: Deals: Xbox Spring Sale 2022 Now Live, 500+ Games Discounted
So many of the same games at the same prices... just all in one sale instead of two.
Re: 1 New Game, 3 New Cloud Titles Are Available On Xbox Game Pass Today
I'll be checking out Chinatown Detective Agency at some point. It looks like it's a pretty solid little game.
Xbox is on quite a run of a solid to really good indie games on Game Pass lately, unlike prior where there were a lot of decent to bad ones being added left and right.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 2-3)
Copy and paste once again... Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5.
Re: Here's How PlayStation's New Services Compare To Xbox Game Pass
Re: Paramount's Live-Action Halo Series Is Its 'Most-Watched' Premiere Ever
@Casco He did it so the girl would trust him as she obviously wanted to kill him before he did that and actually made himself vulnerable. She had already brought up him removing the helmet before things went sideways.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 26-27)
Horizon Forbidden West on the PS5. The journey continues....
Re: Phil Spencer Says Xbox Is 'About The Diversity Of Business Models', Not Just Game Pass
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 19-20)
Copy and paste.... Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5.
Re: Gran Turismo 7 Drama Leads To 'Always-Online' Xbox And PlayStation Debate
@Medic_Alert I'd still say that buying physical copies for games on PS5 is still worthwhile even if there are day 1 updates and added modes. I bought Horizon Forbidden West and was able to install the whole game on day 1 except for the patch, which given their really good compression, was small (unlike a lot of them on Xbox unfortunately). That's a near 90 GB game that I had installed in less than 45 minutes. Almost all Sony exclusives are like that where the whole day 1 game is on the disc.
Re: Paramount Plus Is The Latest Xbox Game Pass Perk For March
I'm assuming this is like most other offers like this where it's only available for new subscribers since I subscribed about a month ago to start watching the second season of Picard. Oh well.
Re: Perfect Dark Developer The Initiative Is Reportedly Struggling With Staff
@RevGaming It seems like Ninja Theory and Obsidian are in much better shape. Hellblade II's footage so far is a very good sign in that regard.
