Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto V is coming to Xbox Series X in the second half of 2021. The company revealed an Announcement Trailer during the Sony PS5 digital event earlier today, noting that the game will be "expanded and enhanced" for next-gen platforms.
In a follow-up blog post, it was explained that the Xbox Series X version will feature "a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements," along with more new updates to GTA Online including additional content exclusive to the new consoles and PC.
Furthermore, GTA Online will be going standalone on next-gen in the second half of 2021, and while it will be exclusively free for PS5 players during the first three months, we're guessing it'll subsequently be free-to-play for everyone on Xbox Series X, although nothing has been confirmed so far.
There's been no word on whether the game will support Smart Delivery on Xbox Series X as of yet.

I think the elephant in the room is smart delivery.
Edit: also, this game will be about a decade old by the time it comes to next gen consoles. Holy Las Vegas.
I’d expect 4K, HDR and I’d like to say 60fps but I doubt it. As for ‘new content’ I hope that’s for single player because we get more than enough content in GTA Online.
Nothing wrong with this game, and I understand the reasons because of the drive for money, but this is absurd.
@MaccaMUFC It needs to be 60fps as it should be a standard going forward. No excuse not to.
Avoided it on last gen and current gen so can now get to avoid it on next gen too...
I just bought a digital copy... of this does not support Smart Delivery I’ll likely just play it in BC mode. It’s a game that is always fun to revisit, but not enough to buy a fourth time (360, PS4, XBone already.)
So why not just make GTA VI already? Is Rockstar that lazy or something?
That's all well and good, but also pretty disappointing given that they never bothered to enhance it for the Xbox One X.
This is ridiculous.
Crazy idea but just move on from it? Make a new one?
There will never be a GTA 6. They will just keep re-releasing this game until people stop buying it.
Which seems like it will never happen.
So how about a port to the Switch so people can take it on the go too?
@BrilliantBill I concur, what an absolute dud to begin your reveal with.
Oooooof course it is..
What people need to remember is that Rockstar is in the money making business, so with GTA V still selling well and making them a lot of money through sales and shark cards then they will not be in a hurry to release GTA VI anytime soon. They will always put profits first over giving fans a new GTA game.
I do hope thought that we get GTA VI within the next few years but in the meantime I’d like to think we’ll get the enhanced GTA V version through Smart Delivery or else Rockstar can be rightly accused of greed and milking GTA V bone dry.
Rockstar has to keep milking their cash cow
It does seem odd not to show any next-gen footage, and I would have thought Red Dead Redemption 2 was the most likely candidate to get announced (no doubt it's on the way), but it's hardly surprising GTA V is coming, and personally I welcome it. VI is a long way off I'd say, so it's understandable that Rockstar would want to bring their biggest game over for those who want it. Sure, it's a cash cow, but there's still a huge demand for it, and it's not as if Rockstar have ever been bad to their customers. I think it's fair enough all told, and if they finally, finally deliver some single player DLC with it, then even better.
I really do not care about GTA 5. I know it's an amazing game and all, but I played it and beat it in 2013 on the 360 and never really cared about buying it again after that. I feel like it should have been free on the XB1, that would have been awesome. I would be super excited if they revealed RDR2 for Series X... I'd go crazy lol because I'm like halfway through RDR2, and I'd be down to wait for SX if I knew it would be 60fps!
