The next-gen version of Control Ultimate Edition will finally be hitting the Xbox Series X|S on February 2, 2021! A physical edition of the game will also be made available on March 2, 2021.
Anyone who has been holding out for the next-gen version won’t have to wait much longer and a short teaser (which you can watch above) gives an indication of what to expect.
Two graphical modes will be available. Performance Mode, which offers 60FPS, and Graphics Mode, which boasts ray-tracing at a reduced frame rate of 30. Remedy Entertainment has promised to deliver a full trailer soon.
In case you didn't know, this is the only version of Control that supports a free next-gen upgrade, so if you already own it on Xbox One (and it's currently on sale if you don't!), you'll get the Series X|S version at no extra charge.
Will you be diving into Control: Ultimate Edition on the Xbox Series X|S? Drop us a comment and let us know.

I hope this is still on GP when this releases. I’m holding off playing it until the next-gen upgrade.
I really enjoyed Control on the pro. I’ve picked it up in the sale on series X so will be giving this another full play through when it’s released. Wanna check out that Ray tracing.
@Nightcrawler71 The version on GP at the moment is just the base game that does not come with this Next Gen upgrade but if you use this version as essentially a demo to see if you like it then the Ultimate Edition (which does have the upgrade and the DLC) is in the Countdown Sale.
Given that they've bundled the next gen version with this Ultimate Edition rather than giving it away free to all owners of the game I think its very very unlikely they'll change the version in GP to this version.
Can anyone confirm if a save file from the base game will transfer to the Ultimate Edition?
Looks good, though the game's art design doesn't benefit all that much from graphics mode, IMO....but the reflections could be very interesting in this game.
@everynowandben I can't confirm with certainty, however, I downloaded the non-ultimate Game Pass version to test it out, then bought Ultimate on the Black Friday sale and my game did carry over. I don't think it even downloaded the game again or had a new icon, so "Ultimate" appears to be just a "Gold Edition" flag that entitles you to the season pass and XSXS version. But that's sort of a loose anecdotal account and I could have just lucked out.
I thought there was already an ultimate edition out already? Are they doing another exclusively for Xbox Series X/S?
@NEStalgia Interesting - thanks for your response!
Was hoping for a 60fps / RT mode, but I won't complain as I've been holding off for this version. Can't wait to dig into it.
@NEStalgia I dunno, wasn’t this one of the first games built to show off Ray tracing? So graphics mode seems like it may be worth checking out. I know people will say 60fps is the only way to enjoy a shooter but I really wanna see what Ray tracing brings to it.
@Fenbops Yeah, the reflections can be cool, especially with how you can use windows. OTOH the art design is all brutalist with perfect right angles and hexagonal architecture with flat shaded concrete and wood grain textures. It's an art style that would work on an N64 or GCN, so the graphics mode can only do so much. I'm not 60fps mafia and usually choose graphics modes. We'll see! The office glass reflecting could be cool. But the rest of the lighting other than reflections is large spaces with flat concrete walls...only so much RT can do!
@Only1PJA good to know, thanks 👍
@NEStalgia yeah we’ll see as preferably Id like to play this at 60fps, but I’d take 30 with Ray tracing possibly. Hey I loved this game on PS4 pro so if I can enjoy that I’m sure I can enjoy whatever it’ll be like on the X lol.
@everynowandben Like the other person who responded, I can't confirm either, but if it does on the One/One X with the Ultimate Edition, it should on Series X no problem. Microsoft has made it pretty seamless to jump from the One to the Series X, unlike Sony in some ways.
@Beetoe
I think that's very hopeful.
I know Spiderman Remastered and MM have recently done an update to offer this, but it's seriously scaled back and resolution is 1080p-1440p with RT reflections rendering at a quarter of the current resolution.
I think we need to wait for AMD's answer to DLSS and then we can start to see better results with RT and frame rates.
Makes sense. Thanks for the info
