@evan23 @Krzzystuff Yeah, a full power down from a game bug is not normal at all, and is very concerning from a console perspective. Definitely something both Microsoft and the CoD developers will need to patch.
I was excited about getting a new Xbox, but since I can't find one, and there seems to be so many launch issues. I may just get a 2nd Switch so I can finally finish breath of the wild (among others) without my son going: "I want to play Mario kart"
There's a long line of games from previous gens that I haven't played yet. For that reason alone, I'm trying (and failing) to get a Series X to play a bunch of (quality) old games in the best way possible.
Notable games I'm looking forward to playing for the first time: Halo Gears Mass Effect Deux Ex Hitman Metal Gear Solid Ori No Man's Sky Assassin's Creed (I only played the 2nd one) Fable (only played a little bit of 2) Final Fantasy XV (maybe) Nier Automata Ninja Gaiden
(etc)
That said, I don't have a whole lot of free time, so I definitely won't be going through all the games I wish I could play, but my kids are getting older, so I have a lot more time than I did previously to get through some of them.
All said, I don't need new games, I just need games.
@TheIronChimp Psyonix told us the reason for Rocket League. It's likely a similar reason for Call of Duty and potentially many more games. Adding 120 fps for PS4 games on PS5 requires a rewrite of the source code.
As a consumer, console units don't matter to me, but I imagine they would matter to developers who in certain situations have to choose between series x|s and ps5 (at least initially).
The pre orders sold out too fast for me to get one. My wife tried to get me one yesterday, but we're not the camping outside a store type, and it seems every store had a long line of customers that camped out for one. So now we wait.
Yes, people will be left out at launch, but a bunch of people will be back week after week after week after week, because <insert celebrity> is showing their new toy, and got a large segment of the population interested.
@Tharsman No generational exclusives that I'm aware of, but I'm ready to see just how much better x1 titles perform on these new consoles. I've got quite the backlog of titles from this gen anyway.
I look forward to downloading this later this week. I wanted it on Switch where I'll have a better chance of finishing it, but... my budget is extra tight these days. I wish they included Xbox remote play to a Mac.
@hallower1980 @Krzzystuff I never played on the official servers. I have a private server that I share with friends where we've upped the taming speed, resource gathering speed and pretty everything else that takes forever in default settings. It's great fun, and let's you spend more time exploring than gathering resources or trying to feed a dinosaur.
So do all these upgrades (except 4k resolution) also apply to Series S? Ark was literally the reason I bought an Xbox one X (which I later traded in for an Xbox one S, due to their broken promises). If these upgrades are Series X exclusive, then I might jump on the X sooner than later, but if it's also on the Series S that would be great, and I'll just jump on the S sooner than later.
Sidenote: The last RPG game I finished (prior to FF7R which I was able to finish quickly due to timing) was Octopath Traveler, and that took me about a year. I finished half of it when it released, and then picked it back up 6 months later and finished the other half. (Didn't beat the true final boss though, after trying once, and the battle basically didn't progress after 2 hours, I nope'd out of there).
I think I'd gladly replay FFVIIR on the Series <letter> when it releases next year. Hopefully, they include some way to start it in hard mode, but I realize that's probably a stretch.
@Krzzystuff Different stores have different policies. But typically, you put some money down (at least $5) and it guarantees you a console at launch (typically, you get about a week to pick it up). After that, if you don't get the console, your pre-order is not guaranteed and is usually also fully refundable.
I plan on pre ordering the S, but I may or may not cancel it and wait depending on early impressions. The X doesn't fit in my media center, so I'd have to wait for a slimmer variant of the X, or make drastic changes, and I don't want to make drastic changes.
@TheNewButler As someone with little time, but a bit more money, I plan on acquiring all of the consoles anyway, as this allows me to play whatever I want to play, whenever I want to play it. But I honestly prefer playing on Xbox over PS or Nintendo, and would like to see more variety of games show up on Xbox. As an old school gamer, I find that I prefer indies more than most AAA games anyway, so I'd really like to see Xbox do better with indies like they did during the 360 generation.
Let me be more specific. Lots of developers are currently releasing games first on PS or Nintendo, and leaving Xbox behind. Including a large number of indies:
Fall Guys Spelunky 2 FF Crystal Chronicles Trials of Mana Dragon Quest XI Final Fantasy 7 Remake Langrisser Enter the Gungeon
Now, this is small list, but this includes games that I am/was very interested in playing and either have to wait to play it on Xbox, or am unable to play it at all on xbox. And all of the games listed above were made by 3rd party studios, not Nintendo, not Sony.
Will Xbox be included with more game releases going forward? That is my metric for success.
Alice enters Electronics store. "Hi, I'd like to purchase the new Xbox Series X" Store Rep: "Sure, just leave your credit card information with us, and we'll charge it once Microsoft has announced a price."
@AlexSora89 They've been alone in that choice for a long while at this point, however, there's still that rumor that that may be changing soon.... Time will tell.
I feel like I may be one of few that didn't find any of the turbo hovercraft levels too difficult in the Battletoads games. For the record, I played Battletoads on Sega Genesis (which I think was a port of the NES version with better graphics), and I played Battletoads & Double Dragon on the SNES. The ice stage on the Genesis one always killed me. And on the other one, if I just barely made it past the stage with the girls with the whips, then the asteroids level would be the end of me.
