Re: Roundup: Here's What The Critics Are Saying About Tales Of Arise

NotoriousWhiz

Lots of interesting takes here. I've typically enjoyed most JRPGs and I found Tales of Vesperia to be pretty good. Haven't finished it, but I enjoyed the time I spent with it. FF7R was a superior game though in terms of both story and gameplay, but it's also a lot more modern. I also enjoyed the original FF7 (which I never even played until almost a decade after it released), but after playing FF7R, it's unlikely I'll ever play FF7 og again. Recently started FFX and it couldn't hold my attention for very long. Probably because the traditional FF formula just doesn't appeal as much to me anymore. I did really enjoy Octopath Traveler. The pacing and combat was interesting, and I'll probably pick up Bravely Default 2 at some point. Still working my way through DQ 11 and also want to start the Yakuza series at some point. Also, looking at Shin Megami Tensei V as well. We really are swamped with JRPGs these days.

@ralphdibny Nope, somehow I missed it. =(

Also just realized that Smash TV is exactly what I'm looking for. Never played total carnage but when I was looking through the screen shots, I saw screenshots of Total Carnage and I thought that was Smash TV.

I guess I'll wait for a sale then for the midway origins collection.

Re: Xbox Summer Sale Now Live, 500+ Games Discounted

NotoriousWhiz

@NEStalgia Same. I had best buy unlocked for the first year the Switch was out (20% off all physical games) and that was when I bought the most amount of games. I also bought the vouchers when they released those but they only did that once. Now I wait for discounted eshop cards from Costco and combine that with the Nintendo discount of 25-33% off their older titles and that's when I'll snag them. Obviously, this only happens once or twice per year, which basically means I'm only buying 1st party games once or twice per year (with very few exceptions) instead of the 7ish that I bought in the first 9 months.

Re: Reaction: This Year's Shaky E3 Was Held Up By Xbox And Nintendo

It's funny hearing these opinions. Basically everyone thought: "My preferred company had a great performance, but the rest sucked"

Both Nintendo's and Microsoft's were really good. Not a lot of filler or talking heads but just reveals of game after game.

Nintendo's presentation was really good at targeting their audience. The Xbox presentation also targeted its audience very well (most especially game pass subscribers).

As a fan of Nintendo, and a subscriber to game pass, I came out enjoying both presentations.

I wish I could say Sonic. But at this point, Sonic is way past his prime and has been for awhile. And while I have plenty of good memories of Sonic, most of those recent memories are bad. Banjo Kazooie at least still brings me fond memories even though they are from a long time ago. If they announced a new Banjo, I'd be excited. If they announced a new Sonic, I'd be like : "here we go again"

"Therefore you two are in the category of people who shouldn't be interested in the service to begin with because you don't have the time to be using it, you're just subscribed because of a supposedly limited-time deal."

No no no. I didn't sign up for game pass because it's a limited-time deal. I signed up for game pass because it is good deal for me at $75 per year.

Everyone has a price point where something is worth it to them or not... For me, $75 = worth it, $180 = not worth it. I imagine those cutoffs will vary from person to person.

With most subscription services, the value you get is entirely dependent on the time you spend on it.

MMOs may be seen as not worth it if you can generally only spend a couple hours per month on it.
Amazon Prime, not worth it, if you only buy something from it twice per year.
Netflix, may not be worth it, if you only watch one series per year.

But if I was a Netflix die hard, who spent dozens of hours per week using it, maybe I'd be okay with spending $20 per month on it.

Or on a more relatable scenario, if I liked to watch everything under the sun all the time, maybe I'd subscribe to cable TV for $100 per month.

At the end of the day, as it relates to game pass, $180 is definitely no buy for me. But $75 is a definite buy for me. I'd probably be open to some numbers in between, but I haven't put that much thought into it.

(and for the record, losing online multiplayer is a non-starter)

@themightyant @LtSarge @Carck

As someone who probably only spends 5 hours per week gaming, you can bet that I will be unsubscribing once the $15 per month becomes the only way to get it.

It is a great deal, but only if you have the time to take advantage of it.

At $75 per year, I'm down indefinitely. Once that goes up to $180, I will bow out gracefully.

I imagine many others are in the same boat. Sure most people are probably renewing monthly. But is most 90% or 60%?
