It feels like only yesterday we were waiting for the Xbox Series X's release date and price with bated breath. But before we even got that, news of the Xbox Series S leaked online, complete with its specs and price. It now may be shocking to know that was an entire year ago today.
Yep, it's been one whole year since the leaked information dropped, and of course, since Xbox's legendary reaction to the leak with 'that' meme. You know the one we're talking about. The classic concerned monkey face that practically confirmed the console's existence.
It was a big moment, and one that finally brought an end to all the month's of speculation and rumours as the next-gen launch finally kicked into gear.
The team's use of the meme was so well received that it was actually put up for an award earlier this year. It was nominated for the "Best Use Of A Meme" award at The Shorty Awards, and reading the strategy behind it all is actually rather interesting, showing it was more than a simple bit of fun. Luckily, it paid off and gave Xbox the momentum it needed for the next-gen launch.
Can you remember the Xbox Series S reveal? Let us know in the comments below.

Where was I? Reading about it rght here at pure xbox!
At the time I thought it was ugly. Who knew I'd be a happy owner a year later...
I have been a chronic nintendo fan for 25 years. But the series S got me. Affordable, plays newest games, game pass... It's pretty great. Havent touched my switch for months now.
@JohannVanDerSmut
I got an seris x which is in my cave, but picked up a s when game did a great x one trade offer, fits perfectly with my ol 1080 plasma downstairs, and with game sync it's a seamless switch.
I was a bit "what's the point" but it's a great little machine for the price, it runs ms flight sim ffs.
"the little engine that could"
As an old guy who games on a large TV ~10 ft away. I'm perfectly happy with the 1080p/60 I can get from the Series S. The only thing I don't like is that small storage size, but I got a cheap 1 TB SSD external for all the unoptimized Xbox Series games, and that works wonderfully for me.
Plus I mostly play indies and old games anyway lol.
As a PlayStation convert who failed to get a PS5, I love the Series S. My kids joke that I’ve become an advertisement for Game Pass because of how much I praise it. My only complaint is storage—especially after I downloaded flight simulator. I’m constantly having to delete and redownload games. I thought cheaper add-on drives would be available by now.
So funny, that was an interesting day.
September 7, 2020 Xbox Series S Leak
September 7, 2021 Xbox Series S 2 Leak Release 2022
and also Xbox Series X 2 Leak Release 2023
@Richard-92 semi conductor backlogs are not to be fulfilled until early 2023 when Xbox and PlayStation stock will be in stock consistently. Not a hope in hell are we getting pro versions of any console next year or the year after.
@Dad
Rather than buy the expensive Seagate expansion, or have to keep deleting and re-downloading, how about an external SSD?
It will play games that are not optimised for X/S and you can also use it as storage for the X/S optimised stuff (much quicker to move games between internal and external storage than to download).
I use one of these:

Love my Series S.
What a great purchase it was. Highly recommend it to anybody considering picking one up.
