Back in June, a company known as UPspec Gaming opened a Kickstarter campaign which saw the Xbox Series S turned into a portable playing machine via a foldable monitor called xScreen. Not only was the Kickstarter goal smashed out of the park, but now the team has released an exciting update for the unique device.
Upspec Gaming has shared a video of the "final design", and while it may only be a 3D printed version for now ("tooling is underway"), it shows off some pretty cool features. We get a look at the splash screen when booting it up, as well as its ability to enter auto-sleep mode when folded down. It genuinely looks really, really cool.
Pre-orders for the xScreen are still open with the Super Early Bird Special offer available to claim at 21% off the eventual retail price of $249 USD / £189 / €169. It's expected to release in January 2022 and is said to be shipping worldwide.
It's important to note it will only work with the Xbox Series S and support a maximum of 1080p at 60hz. If you're looking at gaming on the go for work or maybe just for fun, it certainly looks as though it could be a worthwhile investment.

LOL, that video quality is horrendous!
@OliverOwen I thought you were referring to the video quality of the actual product.
@PhhhCough I am, It looks like a 720P video on that screen. I wouldn't use one at all.
It looks neat but there are quite a few cheaper and probably better ways to do this already. Their website doesn't exactly exude a lot of confidence either. Hope it works out for all involved and is a solid product!
I'm an early backer and have no doubt this man will deliver. He's been constantly providing updates throughout the whole process. 1080p at this screen size is not a problem, too. It's a pixel density comparable to a 4k retina display. The design is perfectly executed, requiring no additional cables for the screen. One power plug for the whole setup is great. Definitely reminds me of my days in the military, early 2000's, where our attachable screens to our PS2's, GameCubes, and XBOX's were essential for our deployment packs!
This would have been an immediate purchase for me if it had also had a bulky battery built into external module so that it could be played without power within a car or mobile environment for a period of time, and then plugged in to charge and play when possible.
I am getting one. Brilliant. Can't wait.
I’ve always been of the portable screens. Still have the PSOne with an LCD screen. Sure, it’s usefulness to most may be limited, but for travel or small spaces it’s cool.
@Metalder Any chance you know what the input delay is expected to be?
@Zochmenos I would say there's no more input delay than your traditional monitor or flat panel tv. He's demoed Doom and it looked fantastic being a fast paced, twitchy shooter.
@BrianRGI2X that would be stellar. It has been shown this setup is able to run off an external battery though!

@Metalder for 41 minutes, my gaming time is limited but typically still exceeds 41 minutes.
Just save up for a laptop
@Metalder I'd be about it as a portable fighting game setup if it was 5ms or less.
@everynowandben Probably better off with a Steam Deck. Laptop price is still insane for anything close to Series S performance.
@NotoriousWhiz This is about a $500 setup and its gigantic and unweildy - not even truly portable. Steamdeck has a much smaller screen, but yeah, I'd rather have that than this monstrosity. However, I'd still recommend saving up for a laptop. The higher cost is worth it for a much more versatile and overall better experience than what this setup provides.
@everynowandben fits nicely into a backpack as demonstrated, not nearly as gigantic and unwieldy as its competition. Sure, you can save up for a decent gaming laptop at $1300, but for under $600 there's no denying the value. A clean aesthetic, not hampered by a crap ton of wires like the G Story, and the power of the Series S - folks love it, crushing that Kickstarter campaign.
How do they manage to make such a low quality recording in this day and age? Did this guy fish out some old camera just for this?
