Re: 343 Reportedly Prototyped Halo Infinite As 'PVP And PVE' Hero Shooter

Korgon

People do realize they were developing a new engine (SlipSpace) along side Halo Infinite do they not? That style of development almost always makes a game's development take longer. Look at MGS5 that took a very long time to come out because Kojima Productions was also developing the Fox engine along with it. Many would argue that game was also not a finished product just like how some folks feel about Halo Infinite. Also notice how both games were their respective developers first attempt at an open world game. I guarantee that also had an effect as well.

Also both games had external drama to consider as well. MGS5 had the Kojima/Konami feud. Halo had multiple leads come and go throughout development.

Say what you will about the game that shipped but it's not like 343 was twiddling their thumbs for years of development. They were going through the process of game development, which 99 times out 100 is messy and difficult.

Edit: Oh and as for Halo being a Hero Shooter, thank goodness they didn't go that route! That would have broken my Halo loving heart!

Re: Halo Infinite 2022 Roadmap Released, Campaign Co-Op Targeting August

Korgon

Ouch the two maps are all we get until November? That's a little disappointing to see. I was hoping we would see at least a few classic maps return here and there to at least break it up a bit but oh well.

I also am a little sad to see the season is stretching all the way to November. I was hoping somewhere around August or so. I'm not too bothered by it but a few of my buddies I play with won't like that at all.

All this said though I'm still pumped to jump in again in May!

Re: Ubisoft Is Reportedly Working On An Overwatch-Style 'Battle Arena'

Korgon

Jeeze Ubisoft is determined to get something BR related out aren't they? I wish instead they'd just try to bring back some of their more unique MP offerings they've done in the past like Spies VS Mercs or Assassins Creed MP in some capacity. The BR boat is already full we really don't need another one.

Re: Halo Infinite Is Apparently Getting A Gigantic Battle Royale Mode

Korgon

As long as it doesn't mess with development and support of the actual Halo multiplayer I'm fine with it but I've tried three BRs (Fortnite, Warzone, and Apex Legends) and have yet to enjoy...well any of them.

I just prefer a well designed arena map compared to a big wasteland map but maybe the days of great arena shooters really are in the past. Still looking forward to Season 2!

Re: 343 Details Season 2 Updates For Halo Infinite

Korgon

Sounds good for the most part! My only issue is I do hope we will get more than one map for both small and big team battle modes throughout Season 2. I'd even be fine with them recycling in some older classic maps to save a little time.

Other than that looking forward to next month!

Re: Halo Infinite Dev Admits 'Difficult Situation' In Response To Fan Unrest

Korgon

It's all good 343 just focus on Season 2. It feels like they and the community are just beating a dead horse at this point. We get it. Some folks aren't happy with where the MP is at. (I'm not one of them but to each their own) 343 has said they plan to detail season 2 soon. Let's all just cool our jets until 343 is ready to talk yeah? I mean season 2 is only about a month away now. Patience folks patience!

Re: Jim Ryan Argues Xbox Game Pass Model Would Lead To Weaker PlayStation Games

Korgon

I think folks are looking at his words the wrong way. He isn't saying Xbox games are not as good because they are on a subscription service day one. He is saying it simply doesn't work for the way Playstation is set up. Xbox has gone all in on Game Pass and that is primarily why they have acquired so many studios lately. To feed the beast on a regular basis with games.

Playstation doesn't have the amount of studios required to feed their service on a regular basis so instead of doing that and cracking the whip on the studios they do have in order to have something out on a regular schedule, he instead is allowing his studios to take their time and focus solely on the best quality content whenever it's ready.

It's just a different perspective on running a business. Chill out people.

Re: Paramount's Live-Action Halo Series Is Its 'Most-Watched' Premiere Ever

Korgon

I thought the 1st episode was okay. Some shoddy effects and questionable acting here and there but I'm actually pretty intrigued to see where the story is going. Also very few pilot episodes ever get everything right. I usually give shows at least five episodes before I start to consider if I'll keep watching or not so bring on episode 2!

Re: 343 Industries Wasn't 'Proud Of' Halo Infinite Before Delay

Korgon

@InterceptorAlpha
Your not wrong in that shooters are not my primary genre but I do more than dabble in it. I've played Destiny, Battlefield 4, MW 2019, Doom 2016, Titanfall 2 and of course every Halo up until now along with third person shooters like Gears. Most of them good games but Halo Infinite was the first shooter I liked enough to actually 100% finish the battle pass for. The Last shooter I 100%ed... well anything would probably be Uncharted 2 multiplayer. That was way back in the late 2000s for perspective.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't like it as much as I do but I simply couldn't disagree with you more.

Re: 343 Industries Wasn't 'Proud Of' Halo Infinite Before Delay

Korgon

I hope they are proud of what they made. Best FPS I've played in years. Was it perfect? Of course not. Some of the bosses are too similar and it would have been nice to see some more variation in environments but the enemy AI was excellent, gameplay was excellent and the level of freedom on how to tackle the objectives was much appreciated.
Then the multiplayer is top notch even if I would have liked a few more maps at launch.

It's okay to critique some aspects of how 343 has handled the Halo series but overall I personally think they get a bit too much grief sometimes. Take it from someone who is a fan of more than a few dead series. 343 has done an outstanding job keeping Halo alive since Bungie moved on and I can only wish games like Metal Gear and Silent Hill had as much care and attention as Halo gets.

343 is not perfect, but they should absolutely be proud of Halo Infinite. Bring on season 2!

Re: Reaction: Hogwarts Legacy Could Be The Biggest Game Of 2022

Korgon

It's definitely going to be a huge hit commercially. Harry Potter is one of the most celebrated book/movie franchises of all time and people have been clamoring for a game like this for ages. It's also available on everything under the sun and the game simply looks wonderful based off the presentation we all saw.

I know I'm very interested in it and unless something changes its for sure my most anticipated Holiday release!

Re: Soapbox: Live Service Expectations Are The Issue, Not Halo Infinite

Korgon

I've stopped playing for now but it's not because I don't like it or I'm not upset with 343 with the slow updates. Great games/content takes time to develop and frankly I find Halo's more chill approach to the "live service" model refreshing. It doesn't feel like Halo is my job. I don't need to worry about if I'm up to date or not with the game. That's primarily why I stopped playing Destiny a while ago. It's exhausting trying to keep up with something that is constantly getting updated. And as for battle passes I applaud 343 for making it so they don't expire so I don't feel pressured to grind it out constantly in order to get everything I already paid for.

I understand people wanting new things but sometimes it's best just to appreciate what's there. Take it from someone who played a lot of a little online game called Metal Gear Online. (The one with MGS4) There's nothing available today that even remotely gives me that style of MP. Halo fans forget sometimes how good they got it.

Re: Elden Ring Creator 'Apologises' To Players Who Find It Too Hard

Korgon

It is a starting to get a little comical how this comes up every single time a Fromsoft game comes out. They have been making their games challenging for over a decade at this point. It's simply part of their DNA like how Naughty Dog and Ninja Theory are known for having very cinematic experiences in their games or how HazeLight games require coop to play. All are perfectly valid ways to approach game design!

It's the developer's game. Let them make it however they want. Simple. How many more games does Miyazaki need to direct before people understand this is just the way his games are? It's like being upset Hideo Kojima's next game will have cutscenes in it.😂

Re: Halo Live-Action Series Will Show Master Chief's Face

Korgon

It makes sense he would have to show his face at some point in the show. It is pretty charming how you never see his face in the games but the TV show is a different medium that needs the audience to connect to the characters. It's difficult to do with someone wearing a helmet most of the time.

It works for the games because the player can just imagine Chief is themselves thanks to the 1st person perspective. It wouldn't necessarily work for a TV show.

Re: Could Street Fighter 6 Be Officially Unveiled This Weekend?

Korgon

I'm beyond pumped for the reveal! Street Fighter V was by a mile my most played game last gen. I still hop into the occasional match with friends to this day. Honestly it's probably my favorite fighting game of all time personally which I know is an unpopular opinion but oh well. I do hope Xbox fans get the chance to play as well this time around too.

Heck I'm even going to try and buy those Street Fighter Magic the Gathering cards even though I have borderline no interest in the game of Magic! So yup I'm pumped!

Re: Halo Infinite Partly To Blame For Battlefield 2042's Poor Reception, Says EA

Korgon

I don't think this makes much sense at all. Halo feels and plays totally different from Battlefield in that it's an arena based arcade like shooter whereas Battlefield is set on massive maps with not necessarily realistic but not nearly as arcady as Halo gameplay.

Plus Halo is only available on 2 platforms instead of 3 like Battlefield. If Battlefield was better received it at the very least could have done well on Playstation where Halo is unavailable.

I'm a bit biased of course because I friggin love Halo Infinite and have never been a big Battlefield fan but I know Battlefield fans are pretty hardcore. If 2042 was good that fanbase wouldn't be populating older Battlefield games instead. Halo didn't steal 2042's thunder because there wasn't really any thunder to steal anyway.
