Re: Here's What's Included In The Xbox May 2021 Update

Quick resume seems even faster - I didn't even get the little quick resume icon in the corner, just went straight into the game.

Not sure if it's related to the update/quick resume but Dishonored crashed for me a couple of times last night - exited right back to the main menu and had to boot the game again. I seem to remember Forza Horizon 4 doing the same last update too. Maybe an issue with a game being in quick resume mode when the update installs? Haven't had any problems with Forza before or since so assuming it was related to the update.

Re: WRC 9 Has Dropped To An Unexpectedly Low Price On The UK Xbox Store

@JoakimZ Yup, requested a refund for my original purchase and re-bought at the lower price.

First time I've requested a refund from MS - was processed within a couple of minutes of submitting; very impressive.

Edit: Just noticed I actually received the refund before I got the email to confirm I'd submitted a request! That is quick.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With April 2021's Xbox Games With Gold?

dmcc0

To be fair it's not really the games that we're paying for with this service, it's the online play; games and the DWG discounts are just there to add a bit of value. How many folk actually play these games before they dismiss them as garbage?

As others have said, you can't please everyone and if they put super-popular AAA titles on every month or even stuff that was already on Game Pass folk would complain that they were getting stuff they already had, or that they were somehow paying for it twice.

This is not a problem that's exclusive to XBox either; The Nintendo offering on their online service gets a lot of criticism on the forums for lack of games being added (Sometimes months go by with no new games) and for the quality of those games when they do finally get added.

Re: Xbox Now Tells You When You're Throttling Your Download Speeds

dmcc0

Could the difference be that the Xbox installs the game in a way that allows you to play before the whole game is downloaded? A game I was downloading the other day let me play when it was around 75% done. Not actually sure if PlayStation 4 or 5 does this this; I recall the PS3 used to download the game, then install it separately.

Re: E3 Reportedly Planning Three-Day, Digital-Only Event This Year

@Senua Six figures rather than six zeros, so $k not $m. Still not an insignificant amount for smaller publishers though...

As others have said, I can't see Xbox, Sony or Nintendo bothering if it's all digital. Nintendo seem to have ditched the Direct approach, for First Party games at least, with the Partner Direct and Indie Showcase videos the only stuff they've put out in the last year or so.

Re: The First Three Of February 2021's Xbox Games With Gold Are Now Available

dmcc0

@Bartig same on the other consoles as well. PlayStation Plus games are only available while you have an active sub. I'm sure back in the PS3 era they used to let you keep any PS1 games that were on the service, but not sure what they do now as I don't have a PS4/PS5 and haven't subscribed for years. Switch online also requires an active sub to access the NES/SNES app.

Re: Xbox Accidentally 'Includes' Every Single Game With Game Pass

dmcc0

@Trainer Admittedly I haven't done much general browsing of the store; tends to be just looking for specific stuff or through the sales items etc, but I did notice that when you filter by Genre it does just show the most popular in those categories. I guess neither store does "browsing" that well; maybe understandable given the number of games in each store. Same example on the eShop would probably give you hundreds of shovelware titles to browse through really slowly until you eventually find something interesting/get bored of scrolling.

@gollumb82 Yeah, it would be way more convenient. From what I've read, the previous version let you buy via the app so makes it an even stranger decision.

Re: Xbox Accidentally 'Includes' Every Single Game With Game Pass

dmcc0

@gollumb82 It's all relative. I don't have a PS4, but coming from the PS3 store and the Switch eShop I'd say the Xbox store (on the console at least) seems like perfection compared to those two! Although, I'll admit not being able to buy something through the app is pretty frustrating sometimes.

Re: Rumour: YouTuber Hints At Surprise Xbox Exclusive & Acquisition In 2021

dmcc0

At this point every man and his dog seems to have some vague inside knowledge of some done deal that they can't give any details because... reasons.

Microsoft have pretty much said they're always looking to acquire, so any rumour of some mid-level developer being bought is eventually going to be right! This is not news, bloggers and YouTubers need those clicks though.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Xbox Tomb Raider Games Is Your Favourite?

dmcc0

Have good memories of the original on PlayStation back in the day, but recently went back and played Revelations (I think) on the Dreamcast and couldn't get past the horrible controls; were they always this bad? Only recently played the 2013 reboot and loved it. Picked up Rise in the recent sales for a few £s so looking forward to playing that sometime.

Re: Another Five Games Will Leave Xbox Game Pass Soon (January 31)

dmcc0

I don't mind that games leave the service, I've actually played a few games that I never would've considered buying precisely because they were leaving soon, but it would be good to have a bit more notice than 2 weeks.
Is there a way to tell how long a game has been on Gamepass?
