I just want my current Acer 4K monitor to be recognised by my series X as a 4k monitor and not a 1080p one the way my PC and PS5 does. Unless it was deliberately collaborated with MS to force me to upgrade the monitor? I can be cynical when I want to be...
I do believe he will be genuine in his disappointment. His game will be a work of art. Certainly to the devs it will be and I doubt they do the work just to make money, like most true artists. The fact a huge proportion of the original intended audience will now no longer experience it - I guess it probably would make the team feel slight disappointment to some extent. Although maybe knowing everyone technically won't be paying anything extra to play their game makes them prefer the situation?
I agree with all of you. PS owners just complain. Why can't they be more like MS who are exemplary at all times. Its like you can separate people by what square box they purchase. Although I thought that was also the case with football fans of teams I don't support as well. But what if those people also have an Xbox? Now I'm confused.....Oh well - may as well get back to bashing people who don't wear Nike trainers because they are definitely the most irrational for sure....
@Senua if MS are the netflix of Gaming does that make Sony the Disney? Thats a joke really but when I think about it it may not be far off. Netflix dominate streaming but don't produce much quality themselves while Disney produce a large amount of AAA films through the traditional channels alongside streaming?
I've repeatedly struggled to really like Halo series. From 1 to 4 I've never completed past half way but now I have GPU I think I'll try it all again from 1 and get myself ready for infinite. Now it's "free" I'll have zero expectations and may relax and enjoy them. When you spend £50 on an 8/10 game I feel you get disappointed but playing an 8/10 game for no extra cash and you tend to enjoy it more. Bearded logic!
Nothing to be too excited about personally. Played it for about an hour then deleted it. But guess its good to come to more people who may like it though.
@themightyant completely agree - just feels odd to hear of technology being exclusive. Maybe its all normal stuff that goes on but feels odd for Dolby to do this - but I know nothing compared to the experts who run businesses so I don't doubt it isn't that odd. Heard today that Sony are now tying up Bioshock 4 exclusively as well. All this timed exclusive stuff really annoys me but like you say - its business.
Not sure I fully understand this but has MS paid for exclusivity on new technology? That sort of makes the Sony paying for timed exclusive games argument a bit mute now. Admittedly I think its also a waste of money if true and also unlikely to be a true story because virtually no-one makes use of this technology currently and if it does take off it'll probably be once the exclusivity runs out? Also surprised Dolby would risk the technology from taking off without using Sony's huge console sales figures. Again I think I may be misunderstanding this article because it just sounds stupid from both sides - so probably not worth me even writing this!
I feel this game will be like when Google Street view first launched. Spend 10 mins looking for my house followed by a famous landmark, then I won't use it again until I've booked a holiday and will play it to see where I'm going. Otherwise I'm not so sure how much 'play time' I'll get with it.
For a second I was considering trading in my old PS4 Pro in the bedroom with this machine. Will be smaller and quieter but then realised it doesn't have a blu ray drive so won't be able to watch my films on it. Shame really but as it is I think the pro has more use for me than the S. Now if Sony could only let GPU on their systems then it would be awesome!
@LtSarge it is possible. It's.the shorter 3rd person adventure are my preferred genre mainly because I can actually get to the end while those long RPG games just get tiresome after a while. Never completed the Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Assassin's Creed games nor Witcher 3, GTAV off top of my head. Usually I give them a rest then struggle to get back into them and lose track of which fetch request Im up to. Would welcome some more shorter adventure driven games so long as they are not just a 'catch up' to the Sony games and they try and do something different. With WB selling off some of their IPs I wouldn't be surprised if MS are going to nab another load of studios to deliver those IPs to game pass.
@phoenix1 Releasing a new Half Life would be next level!! I pray it comes to Series X or if it was PC exclusive I'd have to sell my Series X and use the money to get a top end PC!
Great news. This is my kind of FPS and up their with my favourites along the likes of Half Life, Bioshock and Wolfenstein. Extremely controversial but I'm more interested in this than the next Halo, personally.
Have bought every GTA game on console and have only completed San Andreas. Still ploughing my way through GTAV and still hopeful I'll complete it but it does feel like the game will never end right now. I'm also torn over waiting for the next gen version or just getting it finished and be done with it...
@Tharsman sounds like you're after Last of Us gameplay 😉
But think it would be good to have a more puzzle oriented game. Don't think Tomb Raider or UC is properly puzzle based - they're just too easy and don't require much thinking. Wouldn't mind them trying to make it require a lot more thinking to get through and perhaps less action, like you mention.
And I agree with you @The_New_Butler - I love the Naughty Dog games as some of my favourites (Unchartered and Last of Us) but I don't want an UC5 or LoU 3 unless they innovate the series. Would be happy for the mantle to be passed back to the original so long as it does the innovating for them.
@The_New_Butler interesting - obviously I don't agree but that's fine. I just couldn't finish the Tomb Raider games because they couldn't hold my interest the way the Unchartered ones did - although I got about 3/4 the way through the first but could only last about an hour in the second. Perhaps I will give them another go with the FPS boosts? I still don't really want another UC game packages as Indiana Jones though as I still think UC have basically peaked that style of game and we've done it all before now. I'd even take a point and click adventure first - but can understand nobody would want that other than me!
@Richard-92 I think it'll be a bad idea to try and copy Unchartered for a few reasons. It most likely won't be as good as Unchartered which was the problem with Tomb Raider, and that type of game has been over done recently. I'm hoping for something new and innovative so it can stand out from the others. Basically not another Tomb Raider please...
@LtSarge That is a very optimistic view of the future and one very welcome as well. To be bringing out a quality first party game every month would definitely be a game changer for Game Pass for me.
@LtSarge As mentioned by @themightyant I don't think this is a clear cut as you say. I managed to get a year GPU for about £50 which is great, but if I was on a rolling contract I'd probably stop for a few months as I just got Horizon Zero Dawn for free on PS5 and that is now taking up 100% of my gaming time (properly addicted to it now!). I also got Stranded Deep on Plus which I was hoping to play so have no idea when I will get back onto GPU. Right now I've paid up for the year but once that finishes I will imagine GPU will be bought in small periods when there are specific games to get through and it does work out to be cheaper like you say - possibly when Starfield or next Elder Scrolls is released?
@Sol4ris thought it was obvious I meant insomnia games. I don't think their Spiderman is part of a franchise from other platforms, specifically you played part 1 and now can't play part 2. Pretty sure they are stand alone games. My point being if Sony took Halo 7 so Xbox owners no longer have the means to continue the franchise it would annoy people. And that's why the Bethesda games would annoy PS owners who have followed the franchise and now lost it. For me it would have been Wolfenstein mostly but having the series X I'm alright jack!
Think is genuine why PS owners would be disappointed. If Sony bought Halo or Forza franchise and took it away from Xbox owners they would be sad too. It's different to Xbox owners feelings on Spiderman or God of War. They have no connection to it so it's no loss. In fact they can just dismiss the games as 'rubbish' as so many do, however losing a games series they are half way through is annoying. As happy as Xbox owners are about MS stopping half of gamers playing those games it does feel a shame. I tend to rave about games I love to people and feel disappointed if they can't experience them. My favourite film of recent times is JoJo Rabbit. I tell my mates to watch it but I don't tend to celebrate in joy when they say they can't watch it because they have a Samsung player instead of an LG one. That attitude to the art just feels very messed up to me - but is how people generally celebrate their hobby. I have both so it doesn't affect me but I'd love every Xbox owner to have experienced the non Xbox games I love.
@Cherip-the-Ripper wow - even more technology I forgot about! Who knows. Maybe the TV will pack in and I'll be forced to upgrade and I'll be coming on here raving about all those anacronyms that make my gaming life better than yours 😂 Now just need to introduce the kids to indoor football...
Great news but something else I'll never make use of. Still don't have a 4k tv let alone HDR, 120htz and now dolby vision. I must be getting old to be in the situation where I can't be bothered upgrading my perfectly decent TV to get these extra niceties like I used to. I also think maybe I've been burnt by all these new technologies that, outside of a digital foundry lesson, I would never be able to tell the difference. And to answer all the following comments who disagree with me on this - I'm not saying I'm right, I'm saying I'm old!!
@notleks_ I'd counter your opinion with thinking BOTW was one of the best games last gen and still won't find anything as 'fun' as mario kart but I guess that's the point of opinions! We all have one and they're not always the same. Don't see the draw with Animal Crossing myself but my daughter has played the life out of that game and it cost £35. Certainly the most value for money game in our household!!
Rumour is there's a flood of PS5s coming this month in UK so wait for next month's 'PS5 top seller article' and MM back in the top 10 until the flip flop back to Series X/S following that!
The only option to vote if you own one is to say you love it! Hilarious! I do like my Series X but I'd like it a whole lot more if there were some next gen games to play on it. Games haven't been that impressive but the machine itself has been.
So waiting for tomorrows Pure Xbox headline to be "Rumour Xbox studio working on next Half Life title - expected to be exclusive and on GP day 1", followed by the following day's headline of "Half Life title NOT in production".
Rinse and repeat with any other rumours you can think of....
A bit like boy who cried wolf - its now difficult to get excited with any rumour on this site as there are generally just too damn many of them.
Edit: This is not a slight on the site btw - just how the industry feels right now leaks / rumours. Generally feels Xbox 'people' is all about making up silly rumour to big the product up while on the PS side its about coming out with actual real stuff which is 99% of the time shooting itself in the foot!
@UltimateOtaku91 Not sure what you can take from it but if 80% sales are PS and 20% pretty much Xbox last Gen and current gen and this is the 3rd biggest box sales for Series X then does it mean that hardly any games being sold on Series X (generally) potentially? In my case I probably won't ever buy an Xbox game ever while I'm on game pass which is a stat for me but these figures makes me think this is what a majority of people with a Series X think?
As a grown man I feel like I shouldn't be walking around in piublic wearing Xbox labelled clothing. I'd argue that pj's are acceptable as only the family get to see those and their expectations of me are low enough anyway!
As people have mentioned already, I'm on the 'wait for Game Pass' fence as it really doesn't feel like sense to spend money on game pass AND new games when you know it is coming soon enough. Basically I live life 1 year behind brand new - although these games aren't brand new really!
Its amazing to think BOTW2 will likely come out and look like an Xbox 360/ PS3 game and still be better than most games released for Series X / PS5 generation!
Does make me happier I went with series X and not S. The early talk of the S being the same as X just lower resolution was just complete BS and blatant lies. If the performance difference is that vast it feels like the S is already struggling with this gen and needs a Series S 's' mid gen remodel already.
Doubtful for a sequel. I think the game sales were extremely disappointing compared to their other IP's so seems pointless / risky to make a sequel in their eyes. Unless they believe they have a more accepting market with Sony - but I'm personally not convinced they would.
All this buying out of major third party developers feels like a very bad way for the industry to go. I understand people want MS (on this site obviously) to buy everyone so they can say 'ha-ha' to people who own a Sony/Nintendo machine, however I've always had the opinion that taking franchises away from people is a bad situation compared to building your own ones.
I guess it's like if Sony bought the Halo franchise so Xbox owners couldn't play it anymore. In my opinion that isn't great for the gaming industry compared to a new franchise being started by MS that non Xbox owners can chose whether they want in or not. Bit like me paying for Disney+ subscription and suddenly WB buy Marvel so I can't watch them unless I also buy the WB channel. I just don't see anything good coming from that.
And I haven't even started on what consolidating companies under one roof does to creativity which is normally never a good thing.
The more I think about this the more it makes sense. Baseball as a sport is mainly popular (relatively) in the USA and similarly the Xbox is mainly (and relatively) popular in USA only so its a partnership that just has to exist for the MLB to maximise exposure.
I've always felt Halo is very cartoony and not too serious because of the enemies are often cartoon characters bumbling around squealing in high pitched voices. Would be amazing if Halo infinite had some of the Mario enemies in there in some sort of cross over universe. Or a Bowser boss battle. The character design feels like it wouldn't be too out of place. Come on Phil - make it happen!
@abe_hikura Started Yakuza 0 on the many recommendations here and after about an hour I've moved onto GTA V. Mainly because I expect Yakuza 0 to be on Game Pass for longer than GTA V - but what I did play I really enjoyed. A pretty odd start but just good fun so I'm looking forward to carrying on with that. Must say the Karaoke bit I found impossible. I'm new to Xbox so haven't yet got the button muscle memory trained the way the PS one is!
Seems an odd one considering Sony lets him do what he wants. He has complete creative freedom with Sony and there's no real reason to move over that I can think of other than being paid a lot more for it and promised the same freedom. Unless Sony weren't happy with sales of DS and have let the partnership go? Perhaps it works better with MS as game pass means game sales don't matter anymore and developers can hide from it within the game pass ecosystem.
Yay - been waiting for an open world to get into after losing The Witcher3 10 hours into it last month. Was about to start Yakuza 0 (just downloaded it yesterday) but will hold off for GTAV as don't imagine it will be on Game Pass for long. Probably be there for 2 weeks so everyone is half way through and will need to buy it to continue! Really hope not though...
@Medic_Alert Don't disagree with your logic and sense - I'm just thinking buyout may mean more MS VR input which equals more GP inclusion - but I suppose a deal is more probable. And surely the Series X is easily capable of running that thing?
@Medic_Alert @CrazyJF I'm amazed they haven't done this already. Exactly down MS street to wait to see how the technology takes and if they need to then buy out a leading company. This feels exactly the right time for them to do this, especially as they are buying so many others as well right now.
What a position they'd be in if they had a top quality VR set and put all the VR games on Gamepass.
Really disappointed with the selection personally but my plan is to start Yakuza 0 next anyway. Tried Blair witch but that’s impossible to play. Feels like it’s playing at 3 fps and makes me feel more sick than VR ever has! But if Yakuza 0 grabs my attention I have the others to play so I’m good for a very long time!
@Medic_Alert yeah I think Sony are top right now not because of exclusives per se but more that they have so many high quality games that people into gaming just can’t ignore. Myself included. MS have loads of exclusives especially now they’re buying them up left right and centre but still doesn’t mean Sony’s games aren’t truly exceptional. And to play them you’ll need a PS4/5. In my eyes by buying as many companies as possible MS are trying to equally make themselves ‘unmissable’ for gaming fans. I don’t think it really matters who has better back compat set ups I don’t want to miss out on those high quality games. It still baffles me reading comments that suggest only one console can be good when end of day they are both great value consoles with exceptional games that deserve to be played. Now if MS bought out Santa Monica Games, Naughty Dog, guerilla games, insomniac and sucker punch then I wouldn’t need a PlayStation anymore! Maybe knowing that has made Sony slack in some departments or possible knowing that has made MS step up to the table a bit more, especially focusing on the back comparability as an important part of the current gen consoles?
Very odd. Definitely a "I have Xbox so will say free 'half baked' version is best" versus "I have PS5 so improved version for 10$ is best" situation. It almost feels like its an experiment. Do people want to pay a tiny cost for a 'next gen' version or do they prefer just upping the res to 4k60 for free? Me personally would prefer both as options. If all my favourite games offered all those improvements I'd think about paying 10$ for it - but not for something I've got as part of Game pass though. That would feel like a scam for some reason. PErhaps thats why they don't offer it on Series X?

In my case I probably won't ever buy an Xbox game ever while I'm on game pass which is a stat for me but these figures makes me think this is what a majority of people with a Series X think?
Re: Adidas Is Teaming Up With Xbox To Release Some Cool New Kicks
As a grown man I feel like I shouldn't be walking around in piublic wearing Xbox labelled clothing. I'd argue that pj's are acceptable as only the family get to see those and their expectations of me are low enough anyway!
Re: Feature: 120FPS Is Quickly Becoming A Game-Changer On Xbox Series X
Must be great for those 10 people out there. Will get excited about it in 2029 when I get a new TV!
Re: Unsurprisingly, Mass Effect Legendary Edition Is A Pretty Big Download On Xbox
As people have mentioned already, I'm on the 'wait for Game Pass' fence as it really doesn't feel like sense to spend money on game pass AND new games when you know it is coming soon enough. Basically I live life 1 year behind brand new - although these games aren't brand new really!
Re: Xbox Expected Nintendo's Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 To Come Out In 2020
Its amazing to think BOTW2 will likely come out and look like an Xbox 360/ PS3 game and still be better than most games released for Series X / PS5 generation!
Re: You May Not Want To Enable Ray Tracing For Resident Evil Village On Xbox Series S
Does make me happier I went with series X and not S. The early talk of the S being the same as X just lower resolution was just complete BS and blatant lies. If the performance difference is that vast it feels like the S is already struggling with this gen and needs a Series S 's' mid gen remodel already.
Re: Feature: 10 New FPS Boost Games You Need To Try On Xbox Series X
Whoop Whoop Xbox, Whoop Whoop!!
Re: Wait, Did Sony Just Trademark The Sunset Overdrive IP?
Doubtful for a sequel. I think the game sales were extremely disappointing compared to their other IP's so seems pointless / risky to make a sequel in their eyes. Unless they believe they have a more accepting market with Sony - but I'm personally not convinced they would.
Re: Several Parties Interested In Buying Square Enix, According To Report
Re: Pirate Action RPG King Of Seas Finally Sets Sail On Xbox This May
Looks interesting. Will give it a go once its on game pass.
Re: MLB The Show 21 Receives Heavy Xbox Advertising At Toronto Blue Jays Game
The more I think about this the more it makes sense. Baseball as a sport is mainly popular (relatively) in the USA and similarly the Xbox is mainly (and relatively) popular in USA only so its a partnership that just has to exist for the MLB to maximise exposure.
Re: Random: This Official Halo And Mario Artwork Is The Crossover We Didn't Know We Needed
Re: Xbox Game Pass: Coming Soon & Leaving Soon In April 2021
@abe_hikura Started Yakuza 0 on the many recommendations here and after about an hour I've moved onto GTA V. Mainly because I expect Yakuza 0 to be on Game Pass for longer than GTA V - but what I did play I really enjoyed. A pretty odd start but just good fun so I'm looking forward to carrying on with that.
Must say the Karaoke bit I found impossible. I'm new to Xbox so haven't yet got the button muscle memory trained the way the PS one is!
Re: Rumour: Hideo Kojima In Talks With Microsoft About Publishing His Next Game
Seems an odd one considering Sony lets him do what he wants. He has complete creative freedom with Sony and there's no real reason to move over that I can think of other than being paid a lot more for it and promised the same freedom.
Unless Sony weren't happy with sales of DS and have let the partnership go?
Perhaps it works better with MS as game pass means game sales don't matter anymore and developers can hide from it within the game pass ecosystem.
Re: These Eight Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass (April 8-20)
Yay - been waiting for an open world to get into after losing The Witcher3 10 hours into it last month. Was about to start Yakuza 0 (just downloaded it yesterday) but will hold off for GTAV as don't imagine it will be on Game Pass for long. Probably be there for 2 weeks so everyone is half way through and will need to buy it to continue! Really hope not though...
Re: Microsoft To Reportedly Host 'What's Next For Gaming' Event Soon
@Medic_Alert Don't disagree with your logic and sense - I'm just thinking buyout may mean more MS VR input which equals more GP inclusion - but I suppose a deal is more probable. And surely the Series X is easily capable of running that thing?
Re: Microsoft To Reportedly Host 'What's Next For Gaming' Event Soon
@Medic_Alert @CrazyJF I'm amazed they haven't done this already. Exactly down MS street to wait to see how the technology takes and if they need to then buy out a leading company. This feels exactly the right time for them to do this, especially as they are buying so many others as well right now.
What a position they'd be in if they had a top quality VR set and put all the VR games on Gamepass.
Re: Xbox Game Pass: Coming Soon & Leaving Soon In April 2021
Really disappointed with the selection personally but my plan is to start Yakuza 0 next anyway.
Tried Blair witch but that’s impossible to play. Feels like it’s playing at 3 fps and makes me feel more sick than VR ever has!
But if Yakuza 0 grabs my attention I have the others to play so I’m good for a very long time!
Re: Video: Here's A Taste Of Google Stadia Running On An Xbox Series X
Would be amusing to be playing the Stadia version of Cyberpunk on Xbox. Isn't that the only semi stable version out there?
Re: Following Wreckfest's Free Xbox Series X Patch, It's Now Getting A $10 Upgrade On PS5
Re: Following Wreckfest's Free Xbox Series X Patch, It's Now Getting A $10 Upgrade On PS5
