Ahead Of Its Xbox Release, Microsoft Flight Simulator Has Dramatically Reduced Its File Size

There's a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming release of Microsoft Flight Simulator for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S over the next few months, and the game has just dramatically reduced its file size on PC.

Originally requiring a file size of a whopping 170GB+ (and that's not including DLC!), Asobo Studio has "performed some optimisation for the initial full download" so that it's now just 83GB, which seems to bode well for the Xbox release.

The latest release notes also mention Xbox a couple of times in the "documentation section", highlighting that the "latest info & best practices to port content on Xbox" has been compiled for add-on creators, and "a page with samples to illustrate model optimization has been added specifically for the Xbox."

As of today, Microsoft Flight Simulator is still targeting a 'Summer 2021' release on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, but there's no specific date. We're assuming we'll hear more at E3 2021 in a couple of weeks, although the team at Asobo highlighted recently that they wouldn't talk about a release date until the time was right.
