Following confirmation that The Medium dev Bloober Team was working with a "very famous gaming publisher" on a new project, it's now been revealed to be Konami. The two companies announced a partnership today, which will consist of "developing selected contents and exchanging know-how."
In a press release, the president of Bloober Team, Piotr Babieno, said it is an "historic day" for the developer, adding that it's the "culmination of several years of [their] work". Hideki Hayakawa, the president of Konami, also said the company "look[s] forward to combining Bloober Team’s and [their own] respective characteristics and strengths to create high-quality contents."
Back in March, when it was revealed Bloober Team was working with a famous gaming publisher, VGC claimed it had heard a Silent Hill project had been outsourced to a “prominent Japanese developer”. However, a new report today mentions that sources have confirmed two Silent Hill projects are in the works.
VGC adds: "According to people with knowledge of Bloober’s plans, one of the projects it’s working on is Silent Hill related". They later stated that they also understand "Konami has already outsourced at least one other Silent Hill project to a prominent developer in Japan."
There's been rumblings of a Silent Hill game all year. It stemmed off comments made by Akira Yamaoka, the musical talent behind Silent Hill. Back in February, he relayed a very cryptic hint to fans, which many speculated to be a revival of the famous horror IP. At the time he said: "You’ll probably hear something this summer to be announced, and I think it’s the one you’re kinda hoping to hear about.”
This could add up with the partnership between the two companies as we hit the summer season. Perhaps more will be elaborated on in the coming weeks as to what projects are in the works. Either way, it's an exciting time for Bloober Team, and we can't wait to see what they've got cooking in the pipeline.

From Bluebox to Bloober we have come a long way.
I can't believe that I actually predicted this back in September last year, lol: https://www.purexbox.com/forums/xbox-series-x/which_studios_should_microsoft_acquire_next#reply-01
"Silent Hill could easily be revived if the series were given to Bloober Team".
Anyway, in terms of this piece of news, I think I feel a bit mixed. I've praised Bloober Team in the past but recently I've been playing Observer and as a horror game, it's not that good. It has some decent jump scares here and there, but the concept of walking around in an apartment complex and talking to residents is not really my idea of a horror game. Although the game has great ideas, the horror aspect is not executed well.
But the thing is that I really enjoyed Layers of Fear and thought Blair Witch was decent enough. So I think with Bloober, it's a bit hit and miss with their titles. But if they make the next Silent Hill game and it's as creative as Layers of Fear, then I'm not worried at all. After all, Bloober really showed off their skills with psychological horror in Layers of Fear and Silent Hill is also all about psychological horror, so I think they go well hand in hand.
Ultimately, I don't think they want to mess up this opportunity. I think they're going to take their time and invest as much resources as they can into making the next Silent Hill as good as possible. So right now I'm at least hopeful.
Was so excited about a new Silent Hill but this news is so disappointing if true. I have no expectation for Bloober to be able to make a high quality Silent Hill game. Hopefully they can prove me wrong!
Bloober Team is good at creating visuals, but up until now their "games", were not really games. They are more like walking simulators, with very limited gameplay and choices. Also, they lack in the horror department. Some few neat ideas, but nothing to write home about. Hopefully Konami will remedy that.
I don't know how to feel about this, as bloober teams latest entries weren't the best.
I would of much preferred bluepoint, konami or another big third party developer to handle this game 😔
The medium had no horror, no suspense, no atmosphere, last gen graphics, janky controls and bloober don't do combat.
If anything I'd love to see the guys behind the evil within (tango) do silent hill, even if that means making it xbox exclusive
@lokozar I played the medium and as soon as I finished it I played the man of medan, the difference in horror and creating suspense was massive and made me realise how dissapointing the medium was at being an horror game.
@UltimateOtaku91 You thought Man of Medan was good? I thought it was one of the worst horror games I've ever played. Half of the game you're just spending time on that boat and talking with the most uninteresting characters I've ever seen in a horror game. Like that game was a huge far cry from Until Dawn, it was so boring.
@UltimateOtaku91
Cannot say anything about Man of Medan, but otherwise I have to agree. Blooper can do art, but cannot do gameplay or significant horror. It's still strange to me, that I have to look for indie titles to get good horror nowadays.
Bloober doesn't get the gameplay part right. I played Blair Witch and found it to be extremely boring Walking sim.
All I can say is good luck to Blooper.
They have the talent but they've never had the budget, so hopefully Konami are helping them in that department.
And I just hope the Japanese dev on the other Silent Hill project is Tango Games.
Imagine a Silent Hill game directed by Shinji Mikami? Oh my...
@LtSarge it gave me a few jump scares and created suspense, yeah I admit it played out more like a film and was short and had some slow character building parts, but in terms of being an horror game it did a better job than the medium, plus for medium being "next gen" it's graphics let it down. Hence why I would much prefer konami stick to making silent hill themselves. When Western developers have handle silent hill I've been dissapointed
As much as I love The Medium, I am
Worried that a team that clearly does not know how to manage combat is given the Silent Hill IP. Having said that Shattered Memories avoided combat altogether and turn out OK. Only time will tell.
@LtSarge if I had to pick a developer to do this I would of chosen the guys behind the evil within
From how I'm understanding this its more of a collaboration then just Blooper team making ganes for them, so between their combined efforts this could be a really good partnership
Nice, Silent Hill is back..
@UltimateOtaku91 The graphics were the “next gen” part. It was that it simultaneously created two different worlds at the same time. That’s what took a lot of processing power to be able to do.
While The Medium is a "love it or hate it" kind of game, I do think the technology behind The Medium is perfect for a Silent Hill game.
I personally feel like Silent Hill hasn't been great since Silent Hill 3 - though Silent Hill 2 is probably the best in the series.
I enjoyed The Room, but it was also the beginning of the downward slope of the series. Homecoming was decent.
Shattered Memories was an interesting twist to the original game; but ultimately was just okay in my books. Downpour wasn't good at all.
I guess, at this stage, anything Silent Hill will be good, though I am sure it will be doomed to be compared to what could have been after the P.T. demo.
Next we see the rumors of Xbox acquiring Bloober finally materialize too!
Personally I feel as though this is a great match.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Medium, the atmosphere and setting was superb. I have no reason to believe they couldn't make a terrifying world once those sirens start kicking off 😁
Silent Hill 2 is one of my favourite games of all time so colour me excited!
So all those Kojima/Blue Box theories must now be Abandoned, then? 😉
