Re: Talking Point: What Was Your Favourite Part Of July's Xbox Showcase?

roe

The 3 stand outs for me were: The Medium, As Dusk Falls, and Tell Me Why.

The Medium looked like it wanted to try something new, which should always be exciting. It also just looked awesome. Really hyped for that one.

The latter two just look like the sort of narrative games I usually enjoy despite their flaws.

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade July's Xbox Games Showcase?

roe

I don't really understand the marketing plan either. I'd have thought they'd have wanted to go as big as possible to really make a splash in the mainstream media. It seems like they're always saying "and we've got even more to show later".. but when?!

I don't think there's anything here that's gonna make an article on the BBC for example, like the recent Sony showcase did.

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade July's Xbox Games Showcase?

I give it a C. Cool that everything is coming to Game Pass. Forza, Fable and Hellblade seem like they're a long way off. Little reason to get a Series X early now.

The Medium looked very exciting.

Disappointed at a lack of personal favourites (ie no Banjo, Conker, Cuphead etc)

Re: Ubisoft Has No Plans To Increase Next-Gen Game Prices For Now

roe

I don't think the universal increase is gonna happen like many thought a couple weeks ago.

While of course game development costs have risen, a major reason for that is because the profits are hugely up as well.

I just don't believe it's a good move financially for the vast majority of games. They'll sell less copies early doors and even more people will just look to sales or buy less games.

Re: New Samsung Phone Might Feature Close Partnership With xCloud

roe

Xcloud works well enough but playing on a phone will never really be my thing. If they can get it on iPad, then I'll be a lot more interested.

I'm mostly more excited to see when they bring the service to PCs and the Xbox console itself. That's when Xcloud really has the potential to take off imo.

Re: Talking Point: Give Us Your Wildest Hopes For This Week's Xbox Showcase

roe

Halo Infinite looks good
Banjo Three-ie
New Conker game (would even settle for another Project Spark at this point..)
New Fable
Battletoads is out at launch
Hellblade 2 is out at launch
Announcement of new 3rd person story-driven game similar to many of Sony's latest exclusives
Something else new that catches my interest

50% of those and I'll be fully on board with the Series X.

Re: Kinda Funny Announces New Xbox Podcast

roe

This is cool.

I respect Alanah quite a bit, Gary Whitta is good, and SnowBikeMike has a ton of heart and passion.

Hope it takes off. It's an exciting time for Xbox as well so obviously can see why a lot of people will be jumping into stuff like this

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Ubisoft Games Are You Most Excited For?

roe

Far Cry 6 but not massively hyped for any of them tbh.

I was somewhat interested in Valhalla when I heard about it being Nordic themed, but everything I've seen/heard so far hasn't really got me.

Similar with Watch Dogs Legion going to London. I was excited for an open world game in London, but again what they've shown so far hasn't appealed to me.

So I'm left with Far Cry, a franchise that I'd like to love but always find a bit too repetitive. This looks like pretty much another copy and paste revolution story, albeit with their highest budget voice actor yet.

Re: Take A Closer Look At The Official Xbox Series X Box Art

roe

Agree with the comments here.

There are already too many little labels and tags on game box art in general for my liking, so of course I'm not too happy with the giant "Optimized" logo taking up a good chunk of the case.

I feel like it's somewhat unnecessary as well.

Re: Poll: How Much Do Spiders Bother You In Games?

roe

Interesting question.

I'm not a big fan of them in real life (not that scared either though). In games they do creep me out a little, but I'm generally fine with them.

The Outside Xtra videos where they get Ellen to rate how scary spiders are in games always cracks me up.

Re: NBA 2K21 Launches In September, Won't Support Smart Delivery On Xbox Series X

roe

£65 for a yearly sports title is a bit too much imo. I don't mind a price rise for some games, but not every title is worthy of full price and an increase will only make that stand out more.

All bumping the RRP up does is gatekeep new releases, which I don't think is good for gaming as a whole. More people will just wait for sales

Re: Random: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Keeps His Series X Sideways

roe

This is the vertical gen coming up.

I've already got a bit of space either side of my TV where I'm planning to put the PS5 and Series X. At the moment my PS4 and Xbox are underneath it, so not sure what I'll do with that space if I move both previous consoles out. Maybe use it for some accessories or something

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want To See From Xbox Game Studios In July?

roe

It's hard to describe exactly but I just want some fresh new titles that seem polished and look like they're ready to push the industry forward.

It sounds a bit pointless to ask them to exactly copy what Sony have done recently, but something along the lines of a God of War, Horizon, TLOU or Uncharted would be brilliant.

Re: Project xCloud To Reportedly Get Xbox Series X Server Upgrade In 2021

roe

I wonder when about in 2021 this is planned. They seem quite slow in rolling out xCloud overall, so I'm imagining this upgrade coming at the back end of next year.

It's not a bad thing that they're taking their time though. This is a service they'll absolutely want to get right when they do fully launch it.

Re: Ori Dev Suggests 1TB Storage Is 'Just Too Small' For Next-Gen Consoles

roe

Oh for sure. It was already something of an issue when the current gen launched with 500GB as standard, it's definitely gonna come up again here.

Hopefully though transfer speeds between external storage and internal will be quicker and Xbox's solution of custom expansion cards seems like that could be a good fix.
