2K has revealed that NBA 2K21 is coming to Xbox One on September 4, 2020 and Xbox Series X this Holiday, but it unfortunately won't support Microsoft's Xbox Smart Delivery program.
However, there is a way to get a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X version - if you purchase the £84.99/$99.99 Mamba Forever Edition, which includes the Kobe Bryant Digital Collection with special MyPlayer Shoes, a Sapphire Kobe MyTeam Card and more, you'll get the next-gen version at no extra cost.
An NBA 2K spokesperson commented on the lack of Smart Delivery support to IGN:
"It's something we're interested in, but NBA 2K21 will not support Xbox Smart Delivery."
Meanwhile, 2K also confirmed more details on the next-gen versions of NBA 2K21, revealing that it's being built from the ground-up for Xbox Series X and PS5, and will adopt a £64.99/$69.99 price point. This version will feature "unbeatable graphic fidelity, two second load speeds, new gameplay features, and expanded game modes," as well as MyTeam cross-progression and a shared VC Wallet within the same console family.

First indication of a next gen price jump perhaps, folks are going to be mad about that lol. Definitely going for the big boy edition this year!
I will wait till it's £2.49 like I did for NBA 2K20 🤣🤣
It's not a free upgrade if you have to pay more for an edition that includes it.
Maybe Xbox will snag it for Game Pass later on like 2K20. Haven't cared much for basketball games in a long time though. I'm just curious to see what "unbeatable graphic fidelity" looks like.
£65 for a yearly sports title is a bit too much imo. I don't mind a price rise for some games, but not every title is worthy of full price and an increase will only make that stand out more.
All bumping the RRP up does is gatekeep new releases, which I don't think is good for gaming as a whole. More people will just wait for sales
For anyone interested, 2K21 is up for pre-order on the Czech store for £6.10.
Grab it and run.
If I was going to buy this game, they just lost my sale.
Thankfully, I have little interest in an NBA game.
This just screams greed, there’s no reason whatsoever that 2K can’t use Smart Delivery for the standard edition of NBA 2K21. Thankfully I have zero interest in basketball games but I hope other publishers don’t do this, purchase the more expensive edition on Xbox One and get the standard for “free” on Series X? Yeah righto 🤨
Kind of surprising they wouldn’t want to keep people in the ecosystem through an upgrade to keep selling to them.
