Last week, we put up a poll asking you to compare the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 box art, using the only example available to us in NBA 2K21. Now, thanks to yesterday's Ubisoft Forward event, we've got a few more official Xbox Series X (Smart Delivery) box art designs to share, including a shot of the spine.
Take a look at the official next-gen boxes for Far Cry 6 and Watch Dogs: Legion below:
Now that we've had a closer look of what to expect from box art during the Xbox Series X generation, how do you feel about it? Let us know your thoughts in the poll and comments below.

To me it doesn't seem any different from the current retail packaging.
It looks OK to me - the optimised for Series X is a bit to big for my preference but otherwise, its not that different from current Box Art. At least it isn't Black & White....
If it wasn't for the Optimised for Xbox Series X logo, I'd put it in the "fantastic" category. For now, it's just "pretty good."
Far Cry always have original covers. The elephant in the room (literally) is the huge The Legend of Zelda rupee and why can't we get used to it. I hope it's a sticker or that it will disappear by next year.
However, I have to admit that when parents and casual gamers are buying their console later this year they'll find the Series X games easily.
I personnally think that this logo "optimized for Series X" is the key thing of this all strategy.
It has to be that big. It has to be. The buyer cannot have a single doubt about how the game he's out to purchase is going to run on his next-gen console.
But I expect this logo to fade out in one or two years : its purpose is to assure the transition bewteen hardwares.
I'm disappointed. I have to say I quite like the new packaging and design after forking out for a new console. There's essentially nothing to distinguish these games from my XB1 games on my shelf. I get that what's Microsoft were going for, but I personally don't like it. I like to see my new games consoles catalogue grow on my shelf over time. Its great to have the backwards compatibility but the packaging just looks very similar to their current ones. I obviously won't not buy a game because of packaging, but it's disappointing I feel nevertheless
I voted “Ok” because I hate that way too large “Optimized For Series X” logo on the box.
Other than that, I like it.
Yup, as others have said, that "optimized for Series X" logo is WAY to big, so it's a real eyesore, but on the other hand, it's probably to make these new games more easily recognizable vs previous gen Xbox titles, so here's hoping it'll be phased out eventually.
Ok. Obviously things can be edited etc, but that little black band doesn't leave a LOT of room for "X BOX Series S" to be written...
Ideally I would remove the '4K, HDR, Smart Delivery' and the 'Optimised
for Series X' logos. It's really messy. But I've started buying more games digitally and using gamepass too, so the dashboard image is more important at this point. All of my physical games are out of sight in a cupboard.
Please, let that “optimized for series x” stamp be a sticker over the shrink wrap... it’s horribly HUGE!
@antifyre more wood into the “Lockhart won’t be Called series s” Fire!
If Lockhart is diskless, though, it might not mater at all, since it would mean you wouldn’t accidentally buy a disk game to play on it.
So, the giant Rupee is here to stay...
@FraserG
That's exactly why I voted "It's Pretty Good", instead of "It's Fantastic". I know Xbox needs to convey an important message, but I just don't like that rupee being so large. The Far Cry 6 cover art is sublime, though. 😍
Agree with the comments here.
There are already too many little labels and tags on game box art in general for my liking, so of course I'm not too happy with the giant "Optimized" logo taking up a good chunk of the case.
I feel like it's somewhat unnecessary as well.
The big question is, are they optimised on day of release for series x.
If it says so on the box it should be.
Just thinking these game boxes with optimised for series x on them.
If there is a series s, then where does that leave that with box markings and optimisation ???
@Dezzy70
If the Series S is all digital, then the box art doesn't need to make any reference to it, correct?
@gingataisen Probably. The Xbox One X and S play the same games, the Xbox Series X and S play the same games. Just the X looks better than S.
Think it’s fine. Smart delivery is gamer-friendly and it makes sense to emphasize that games you buy here will be upgraded at no cost on the console. I also hope it’s a sticker on the wrapping and not the box art itself.
I think it is pretty good! Not outstanding, but it does the job!
So, wait- by having virtually no exclusive games at launch, is the Series C even worth getting?
@gingataisen
That is a valid point, so the series s must be if it exists digital only. Though I still think they should have gone PS5 route, one console same power. One with disc, one without. Even when they do stop supporting the Xbox one, they will have to scale game’s for the weaker series s. I hope one day with such a beast of a console series x, they just make games ground up for all its power, else what’s the point of having all that power and technology. It’s the same with Xbox one x, imagine what a game from the ground up by someone like naughty dog etc could of produced on the one x. It’s like having a Lamborghini and activating speed restricted.
We shall see next week.
From a design perspective, it's clean, crisp, and communicates well. It doesn't need to be massively different from the Xbox One games on your shelf, because they're trying to get the idea of games playing on both consoles across. Which they do very well.
From a user perspective...I haven't bought a physical current-gen game in at least three years, so I'm not all that bothered.
@Dezzy70
The point of Series S is to be a very accessible (read cheap) entry point for next gen. An all-digital Series X wouldn't be that.
Guess we shall see how it all pans out.
I just hope they get to use all the beast power of the series x in game’s one day.
