Developer Bloober Team has confirmed that its upcoming horror title The Medium will be 30fps on Xbox Series X.
In response to a commenter on the studio's official YouTube channel, it was explained that the game will run at 4K/30fps for cinematic reasons, as well as its 'Dual-Reality' gameplay:
"The game is 4K/30fps. The decision to go with 30 fps is a result of the game's focus on cinematic experience on one hand, and the player's ability to play in 2 worlds at the same time, rendered and displayed simultaneously, on the other hand."
Bloober Team shared a look at that Dual-Reality gameplay in yesterday's Xbox Games Showcase, which features the ability to play in two fully-fledged and visually distinct worlds rendered simultaneously. Watch it above!
How do you feel about this? Looking forward to The Medium? Let us know in the comments below.

ohhh god I'm tired of these we are making games 30fps cause cinematic experience that's so BS video games are to play and have fun not cinematic experience if I want that I will watch a movie I'm totally fine with 30fps when he said 2 worlds at the same time that argument is enough for me no need to mention that BS excuse
@experTiger I agree. The first excuse is enough.
So it can't run it at 60fps, end of excuses.
I've also read most first party games shown yesterday are Xbox series x console exclusive and won't be coming to Xbox One. I'm fine with that but Everwild doesn't look very next gen to me. So much for not forcing you to upgrade for at least two years.
@JON22 They said that they wouldn't force you to upgrade at launch and that for 1-2 years Xbox One would be getting Series X games. It's true that most of the first-party games were presented yesterday as Series X games but not as Xbox One games. My conclusion is that the cross-generation period will be shorter than expected but I'm fine with that. This is what happened last generation, developers jumped to Xbox One and PS4 faster than they had anticipated. I think that Microsoft should have said that Halo Infinite will launch on both consoles, like Nintendo does with Zelda games and nothing else. The message they sent is a double-edge sword.
Wait... the game is constantly running on split screen mode? Weird.... still curious m but that’s... will have to play it and judge myself I guess.
@BlueOcean @JON22 my conclusion is that Everwild is further away than we all think. Christmas 2022 at best.
@Tharsman In that case, Xbox One version ditched eventually.
I’m not into horror games. But I gotta admit what they are doing with this game (two worlds) looks super cool.
I take it as is 4k30fps going to ruin anyone's experience? Probably not. So no big deal.
The obsession with FPS is horrendous sometimes.
@experTiger Agreed.
30fps is fine. I really don't know why framerate is spoken about so much tbh. For some games sure, but most really don't matter.
@Grot That makes sense. All games playable on Series X and Series X games available through xCloud on Xbox One. That also explains why Xbox One X was discontinued but Xbox One S wasn't. xCloud coming soon to Xbox One S.
I for one am happy this is 30fps if only to shut up the Xbox fanboys I've seen online for weeks, now they'll realise that Series X will have games targeting this as well rather than the PS5 being incapable of 4K60FPS.
Games like these would look nice at 60fps but wouldn't necessarily benefit the gameplay to the same degree as other games, this is one of the games I'm looking forward to the most
@Jaxx420 Agreed it won't ruin things but 60fps should be standard by now. Microsoft keep shouting about Series X reaching up to 120fps so it's perfectly reasonable to expect more from this.
"The game is 4K/30fps. The decision to go with 30 fps is a result of the game's focus on cinematic experience..."
So it's also 30fps on PC, confirmed. I mean, you wouldn't want to keep the master race from enjoying that "cinematic experience", right? 😕
@Tharsman
Exactly. @JON22 is assuming he knows the release dates. Nothing to see here.
When I read on The Medium’s Steam store page that this game will have ray tracing (requirements section saying rtx 2080 required for ray tracing), I already thought no way it will run 60fps on Xbox Series X if they use ray tracing on console as well.
This game looks really cool either way.
@Grot Its basically the same thing, they are prioritising other features over framerates to better service the game. As for Ratchet we don't actually know if there will be a 60fps mode or not as a few PS5 games have already been confirmed to have such as Demon Souls and Spider-Man.
This game does look impressive even if I think they're making a bigger deal out of it then it is. We've had split screen multiplayer for a long time so I'm not sure how this is that different, whilst the likes of Hitman already render from a second camera in game for its use of reflections. Looking at this when gameplay is happening on both the geometry is identical with the gameplay being mirrored too. Its still impressive and as a gameplay concept its pretty cool
