Microsoft has just unveiled a new article detailing how Smart Delivery will work on Xbox One and Xbox Series X, allowing you to buy a supported game and play the best version on either console, without having to pay twice.
The article is a general recap of what we've already learned about Smart Delivery, such as the fact that all Xbox Game Studios titles will utilise it, and that third-party games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla will also leverage the service, with the technology available for all developers.
Furthermore, it also notes that some Xbox Game Pass titles will take advantage of Smart Delivery, confirming that you'll be able to play the upgraded Xbox Series X version of these games at no extra charge when made available on the next-gen system:
"We’re also happy to confirm that Smart Delivery will be enabled for Xbox Game Pass titles that leverage it. Outside of our Xbox Game Studios titles, it will be up to the individual developer to determine whether they take advantage of Smart Delivery."
If you're still a little bit confused about how Smart Delivery works, we highly recommend checking out the full article for more information and specific examples.
Pleased to hear that Xbox Game Pass will be utilising Smart Delivery? Let us know in the comments.

This seems kinda obvious, does it not? They've been pushing Game Pass as an essential service for a while, would be weird if they left it behind now.
Still nice to see them reiterating their "smart delivery" system again though to hopefully spread the word a bit more.
@roe Yeah, I think we've all assumed it for a while. Nice to get the confirmation though.
Clarification is always good. They could have come out and said “nah, if you want the XSX optimized version you got to actually buy it!”
It’s something I would expect from unnamed competitors.
As expected but great news to hear, thanks for the clarification...
