@Millionski yep. For the most part, buying a video game at launch is a bad idea. Though I won't lie, I subsidize my Nintendo games (that I often buy at launch, but even do that less than I used to) by saving on third-parties and MS games.
I would say until Sony follows MS by putting its major first-party games on competing consoles, it doesn't really feel fully necessary to own an XSX if you don't subscribe to Game Pass.
Yes, I think Sony will eventually follow suit but they won't do it like MS is.
As Gene Park noted on a podcast, major publishers were waiting for Nintendo or Rockstar to price a game at higher than $70 (basically to take the bad PR first, and yes, specifically those two publishers) and then follow suit. Looks like there was some weight to that claim.
This reminds me of Metroid Prime Remastered, where the developer really took the time to improve the game (not just visually but with gameplay) and it borders on a remake. In this instance, it feels much closer to a remake though.
I'm hoping we see more Starfield DLC, but MS might be waiting until not-E3 to show that off. It would also be kind of funny, in a random way, if they announced a Switch 2 port of that game and no PS5 version was coming.
@RadioHedgeFund yeah, I figure they'll back down and make it $70 for most games but to save face they'll just discount MKW more often than they normally would have.
I agree on a lot of points that ironically, Nintendo charging $80 for 3 of its Switch 2 games (2 of which are Switch games enhanced and/or upgraded with content) does make the inevitable price increases for the next PS and Xbox more palatable for a lot of ppl so that is a win for companies. For gamers...not so much.
@RadioHedgeFund tbf, it looks like third parties are generally not charging the same price as Nintendo is for some of its games ($80 is not even Nintendo's standard price, but it's been found for 3 games). Street Fighter 6 is $60 USD on Switch 2, for instance.
@kevinm360 "Parents will be fine." We sure will be since most of us grew up playing video games and know enough about them not to get confused. It isn't 2005, parents today grew up playing video games, and ppl like the one you're replying to don't realize that.
Game prices have already increased without people seeming to notice. But $80 appears to be only on Mario Kart, not necessarily every game. I know that because the new DK game is $70.
In any case, you're kidding yourself if you think Game Pass prices won't increase with time.
I routinely hammer NL for posting non-Nintendo news, so it would be hypocritical of me not to do the same for Px when they post non-Xbox news. I come here for Xbox news, not Nintendo news. Heck, I will be going to Nintendo news sites even less now that Nintendo has the app. Lol
The short answer is no. It'll have been 7 years since XSX/XSS came out by 2027. That's plenty of time for a console generation. Even if by and large this has been a weak one for Sony/MS.
I agree with the article about Fallout 3 and NV. Though extensive remakes of the first two games could be cool. Not happening, but since we're dreaming I'm saying it.
Tbh, I've gone back and forth on this one a lot. I would consider buying an Xbox branded handheld PC to replace my Xbox home console if it docks. But then I run into the issue of wanting to play my disc-based 360 and OG Xbox games, which likely won't happen on a hypothetical handheld from MS. In some ways, it makes sense for me to get one, but in many others it really doesn't. I guess I'd have to see it in action before making any kind of guess.

Re: Avowed Game Director Leaves Xbox & Obsidian For Netflix Studio
Good luck to her there, I have doubts the studio will be much better for her but I guess you never know.
Re: Sea Of Stars Adds Eight Hours Of Free Story DLC On Xbox Game Pass
I have this on Switch but haven't started it. Might change that soon.
Re: Talking Point: Do You Have High Expectations For The Xbox Games Showcase 2025?
I try to manage my expectations, so this is going to be a 20/10 and anything less will be an abject failure.
Re: Avowed Update 1.4 Now Live, Full Roadmap For 2025 Also Revealed
@Millionski yep. For the most part, buying a video game at launch is a bad idea. Though I won't lie, I subsidize my Nintendo games (that I often buy at launch, but even do that less than I used to) by saving on third-parties and MS games.
Re: Talking Point: Do You Feel You've Had Value For Money With Your Xbox Series X|S?
Yes, I've gotten my money's worth out of Xbox Series X.
Re: Avowed Update 1.4 Now Live, Full Roadmap For 2025 Also Revealed
I guess that's all the more reason to keep this in the backlog.
Re: The Witcher 3 Drops To 'Lowest Price Ever' In Unbelievable Xbox Deal
It's a really good game, even if overrated. However, this price is undeniably great. Easily worth it for that low.
Re: New Sales Data Highlights How Xbox Is 'Dominating' PS5 Right Now
I'd buy God of War on Xbox or Switch just for the novelty, but Sony won't do that anytime soon.
Re: Review: DOOM: The Dark Ages (Xbox) - Puts The Finishing Touches On A Masterful Trilogy
Well, I figured they wouldn't screw it up and I was right.
Re: Opinion: If Xbox Is 'Just' A Game Pass Machine, That's Still Enough For Me
I would say until Sony follows MS by putting its major first-party games on competing consoles, it doesn't really feel fully necessary to own an XSX if you don't subscribe to Game Pass.
Yes, I think Sony will eventually follow suit but they won't do it like MS is.
Re: GTA 6 Characters, Locations & Screenshots Revealed In Massive Info Blowout
It's a little concerning that it took this long for a new GTA, but I guess that's life.
I've also only paid full price on one GTA game (Chinatown Wars on DS) and I won't do that for this VI.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Still Buy An Xbox At Microsoft's 2025 Prices?
The short answer: no.
The longer answer: Hell no.
Re: Xbox Is Raising The Price Of Consoles, Games And Accessories
@Ken_Kaniff same here, really. I have an absurd backlog that I was saving for a rainy day and it looks like there's a hurricane.
Re: GTA 6 Gets A New Release Date As Rockstar Delays To May 2026
"We need this extra time to figure out how to charge more than $80 for this game."
Re: Prime Gaming's May 2025 List Includes Yet Another Free Xbox Game
That's great, what with game prices increasing.

Re: Xbox Achieves Record-Breaking Results In Latest Earnings Report
It was only a 6% drop because they also counter some PS5 sales. You know, since PS5 is an Xbox.
Re: Talking Point: What Have You Picked Up In The Xbox Spring Sale 2025?
I got Avowed with rewards points, figured since it's free it won't hurt. Then MS might get my money if they make a Switch 2 port.
Re: Review: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Xbox) - A Sublime Debut And One Of The Freshest RPGs In Ages
This has been getting rave reviews. I always appreciate a great turn-based RPG.

Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Release Date & Release Times On Xbox Game Pass
Will Pure Xbox post a review of this game?
Re: Hands On: Oblivion Remastered Is Impressive, But There Are Some Performance Issues At Launch
@Tasuki that's my biggest issue with western RPG's, the inventory limits that affect how your character moves or fast travel.
Re: Xbox Game Studios: All Microsoft First-Party Developers & What They're Working On
I'm hoping we see more Starfield DLC, but MS might be waiting until not-E3 to show that off. It would also be kind of funny, in a random way, if they announced a Switch 2 port of that game and no PS5 version was coming.
Re: Bethesda Officially Announces Oblivion Remastered, Full Reveal Coming Tomorrow
Better than Skyrim, I can't wait to play it again!
Re: Xbox & Bethesda Firing On All Cylinders With Fresh DOOM: The Dark Ages Gameplay
@Vectrex honestly, same. The story is often really dumb, for lack of a better term. Even if it is a bit quaint, it gets a little tiresome.
Re: Oblivion Remastered PC File Size Leaks Ahead Of Rumoured Xbox Game Pass Launch
This is one of the worst kept secrets in gaming.
Re: Xbox & Bethesda Firing On All Cylinders With Fresh DOOM: The Dark Ages Gameplay
I love that there is a story for shooting demons. Both ironically and unironically, tbh.
Re: Talking Point: What Dream Reveal Would You Like To See At The Xbox Games Showcase 2025?
Banjo-Kazooie or a new Conker.
Re: Xbox Games Showcase 2025 & Outer Worlds 2 Direct Announced For June
@LaurenceJ1987 Pfft, I'll watch this while I play MKW!
Re: Xbox Games Showcase 2025 & Outer Worlds 2 Direct Announced For June
Ah, not E3 is gonna be fun. As others have said, we'll probably see some Switch 2 ports of Xbox games.
Re: Xbox Adds Prime Gaming Freebie For April, Available To Claim Now
Got mine, thanks!
Re: Review: South Of Midnight (Xbox) - A Fantastic, Soulful Outing From Xbox Game Studios
Nice, good to see it reviewed well. Though that is a bit of a shame about combat arenas.

@Quaali came here to say basically that. Lol
Re: Xbox Series X|S Sales Now Trailing Almost 20% Behind Xbox One In The US
@themightyant I agree, Xbox Series X is actually a great console. It should be running circles around X1.
Re: Talking Point: Is It Too Early To Release A New Xbox Console In 2027?

Re: Xbox Fans In The UK Can Now Order Games & Consoles From Just Eat
@Kezelpaso fair, wouldn't be a great smell.
Re: Xbox Fans In The UK Can Now Order Games & Consoles From Just Eat
Let me get fish and chips (though I guess that wouldn't travel great) with an Xbox.
Re: Alan Wake Remastered Free Copies Are Being Revoked By Xbox
That happened to me. It's really not the end of the world.

I would like to see what they have ready. We may find out at not-E3.
Although honestly, they might as well just move to Starfield 2.
Re: Roundup: Here's What The Reviews Are Saying About Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster
It's pretty wild that Xbox reviews of multiplat games are often unavailable, as of late.
Re: Xbox Series X|S Sales Down Almost 50% As Fans Question Stock Levels In Certain Regions
This has been a very weird console generation, Nintendo notwithstanding.
Re: Xbox Has Officially Delayed Fable Into 2026
This is my surprised face. I'm really surprised, everyone.
