Reaction: Xbox Games Showcase 2025 Was Just OK, But Next Year Should Be Amazing

Well, there we have it folks - the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 has officially come and gone. We got some fantastic new game reveals — including a slew of Xbox Game Pass announcements for the months and years ahead — and all-in-all we're pretty satisfied. However, this year's show did feel a little quiet compared to recent ones (it was shorter too), but we think that's because Xbox is gearing up for something huge in 2026.

Once the early-show trailer bombardment slowed down a bit this year, Phil Spencer himself addressed us, talking a little bit about the team's lineup and that fantastic-looking Xbox handheld. During that segment, the Xbox boss touched on the platform's upcoming 25th anniversary in 2026, and what that means for Xbox's 2026 lineup. We'll quote what he said down below:

"I'm excited to share that players will get to celebrate 25 years of Xbox with a new Fable, the next Forza, Gears of War: E-Day and the return of a classic that's been with us since the beginning."

Now, Phil wasn't referring to the 2026 showcase itself here, but if next year's games lineup is amazing as it seems, the showcase could be an absolute all-timer in roughly 12 months' time. We have the potential to see big announcements for Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, Forza Horizon 6 and maybe even that rumoured Halo: Combat Evolved remake. And that's not to mention all of the surprises that we don't know about yet!

Surprises aside, Xbox has a bunch of other already-announced games that could appear next year too. State of Decay 3, Everwild, Perfect Dark, Contraband and more were still mysteriously absent - and any of those could easily join the showcase lineup for 2026. You can bet your bottom dollar there'll be a new Call of Duty on-hand too, alongside a fresh batch of third-party reveals as well.

Anyway, we're not too down on the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase overall - it definitely provided some great announcements, and we can't complain at 12 totally new Game Pass reveals either. But, this year's event did feel a little bit subdued compared to the high bar set in recent times, and we have a feeling that the 2026 show is going to be absolutely epic as a result. A big celebratory year for Xbox's 25th anniversary? Bring it on!
