Outer Worlds 2 Director Responds To Xbox's Expensive $80 Price Tag

Back at the start of this week, we mentioned how Xbox officially had its first $80 game in the form of Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2, and the game's director was quizzed about this in a Summer Game Fest interview a few days ago.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Brandon Adler admitted what we basically all knew already - that it's nothing to do with Obsidian. He told the outlet that as a developer, they naturally want as many people to play the game as possible.

"We're a game developer. We love to make games. We don't set the prices for our games."

"Like, personally, as a game developer, I wish everybody could play my game, because that's what I want out of this whole thing. But for the reasons and so like, why the $79.99 price point, you'd have to honestly talk to the Xbox folks."

It's kind of a non-answer because, really, there's nothing to say. Xbox mentioned back in May that the price of consoles, games and accessories would be going up, with certain first-party games jumping to $79.99 in the process.

You could definitely question whether making The Outer Worlds 2 an $80 game is the right move or not, but ultimately it's all on Xbox's side and nothing to do with Obsidian. We'll see how it works out for all parties this October.
