Xbox Has More Competition From TikTok Than PlayStation, Claims Microsoft Exec

In the wake of Microsoft's announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved heading over to PS5 next year, Xbox executive Matt Booty reckons that the platform has more competition from the likes of TikTok than another gaming console these days.

Speaking in a new interview with The New York Times, Booty talked about how the team is "seeking to meet people where they are" as part of its new multiplatform strategy. The Xbox exec went on to say that Microsoft's "biggest competition isn't another console", before drawing comparison to social media platform TikTok (and movies) instead.

"We are all seeking to meet people where they are,

Our biggest competition isn’t another console [...] We are competing more and more with everything from TikTok to movies."

This isn't the first time we've heard this sort of talk from gaming execs - social media is certainly a big drain on attention spans these days, and such execs would rather have folks interacting with their games instead of scrolling endlessly. Still, it's quite a bold statement nonetheless, and it goes some way to explain Microsoft's thinking these days.

This all comes off the back of Xbox making a historic announcement on Friday night: Halo is going multiplatform with its first-ever PlayStation release. We asked you folks yesterday how you feel about Halo: Campaign Evolved going to PS5; so feel free to head over there and chat with us about your opinion on that if you have anything to say on it!
