Is this the part where I faint from shock? Lol finding out that a 1st party Xbox game is possibly many years away from completion is no surprise.

What am I hoping to see?

Release dates they actually stick to?
Release dates, period?
Actual game play?
Updates on games they announced YEARS ago and haven't mentioned since?

@Wheatly INCREDIBLE. Someday, the incredible inability of Microsoft to release ANYTHING on time ever, will be the subject of a documentary lol, it is mind-blowing.

There's something SO weird about a developer announcing post launch DLC for a game that they haven't even been able to tell us a release date for. and then telling us they'll give us more details. but not telling us when. just...in the future someday. like the main game lol

We have to start using a word that I know a lot of fans don't want to use: incompetence. Microsoft's baffling inability to get really ANYTHING out the door in a reasonable amount of time is just...incompetence at this point. Yes Sony has made great games for decades, but I'm sorry, Microsoft has beaten themselves far more than anything.

@Meehanuk_1987 I'm right there with you lol. As soon as I'm done with Hogwarts Legacy, I'm out, I think. It's mind boggling how much trouble this company has getting games out the door. they have more money than they know what to do with, but can't get anything finished, ever.

Microsoft is the single worst offender in this regard. Take a page from Nintendo: announce games when they're nearly done, it'll save a lot of headaches. The one time they didn't do that was Metroid Prime 4 but generally they're GREAT at this

This is going to be a fascinating year. It's either the year that the floodgates open actual 1st party games hit the shelf, or it could legitimately be the year Xbox goes over the cliff...

@TheCrafter1578 no, I agree completely. I played Elden Ring for nearly 100 hours because I found out how to over-level my character, which made the game about as difficult as an average game. I don't like these games otherwise and I'm really sick of almost every game being a soulslike. These are the people who made Nioh, one of the most ridiculous my over difficult games I've ever played. I quit after an hour lol

@NeoRatt 100% agree. Microsoft has a terrible habit of announcing games FAR too early. Part of it is probably because they literally weren't working on ANYTHING for several years, but man is it annoying.

How long do these studios think that teasing and promising to show stuff someday is going to work? How can they be SO tone deaf as to not understand that Xbox owners might be a LITTLE sick and tired of teases and promises?

I usually ignore this every month buuuut......Renegade Ops and the Dishwasher. This would be a great time to add some forgotten but awesome games from the old XBLA days. Throw in Bastion too while you're at it lol

I can't recommend Scarlet Nexus highly enough, it's fantastic and severely underrated.

That works out to less than 3 exclusives a year.

Phil Spencer sat at the Game Awards like a kid who knew he hadn't done his homework and hoped he wouldn't get called out.

Xbox is still trying to buy Activision, but Sony is literally like, "hey no fair, then they might start competing with us!"

I bought elden ring near launch and bounced off of it almost immediately (I'm terrible at those games). In September I happened across a video teaching me how to quickly raise my level early on. I re- specced my character and started over. I LOVE this game now, easily my game of the year, just took a little while lol

Not if it's just going to be them showing trailers for games that are years and years away, have no solid release date at ALL, or don't even have a solid genre nailed down (I'm looking at YOU, Everwild). I don't need more promises of games that are going to come out someday lol

@fox99 look, we can be salty and bash Sony if it makes us feel better, but the gact is, the games you noted got released. On time. And were well received. Ask yourself what you get out of defending Microsoft? I love my xbox but I've had it lol

@awp69 I'm not sure i believe there's a "great lineup" coming anymore. I assume they'll get Starfield over the goal line, and i think Forza will release, but at this point i could easily see them getting nothing else out except a bunch of excuses and promises. Terrible, nothing ever changes.

Every time that I think Microsoft is an incredibly unproductive gaming company, they top themselves.
They showed...absolutely nothing. NOTHING. Think about this: Microsoft is allegedly releasing a BUNCH of games in 2023. Do you believe that now? Couldn't they put a SINGLE TRAILER together? They didn't even have the courtesy to TELL us they didn't do anything. I'm flabbergasted, to be honest. Phil Spencer was in the audience! NOTHING?! I'm actually really interested to hear the Xbox apologists explain this one. Every other announcement was something for PlayStation. Microsoft showed ZILCH. We STILL don't know when anything is coming, 3 YEARS after that famous sizzle reel. No Hellblade, no Forza, no Avowed. NOTHING. Incredible, that's all I can say.

I mean, certainly not a surprise, I'm sure there will be plenty of fake outrage lol, but this has been coming for a long time. Seems like Microsoft held out a long time. Nintendo will do the same, probably starting with their next system. Personally i rarely buy new anyway, but that's just me.

I bought Eastward on Switch and devoured it, and yes I've started it again on Game Pass. It's incredible.

PART 2:

It gets even MORE interesting if you think about it. If you're Microsoft, why SHOULDN'T you keep games like COD, Diablo, Spyro, and many if not most of the IPs they own, multiplatform? They'll make a ton of money, while Sony is stuck playing the "console exclusives" game, and yes they'll sell more consoles and "win" the generation, while Microsoft will have to be satisfied with the enormous piles of money they'll make selling their games to anyone who wants to buy them. THAT will ultimately turn into pressure on Sony to do the same.

Because, and bear with me here, Corporations care more about making money than they do about winning an imaginary contest with another company.
