I'm dating myself here but the game that made me want an original Xbox was the first Rallisport Challenge. I worked near an electronics store that had an Xbox demo kiosk. Rallisport was AMAZING at the time, and I bought my Xbox because of it.
That and the fact I was CERTAIN that Microsoft would have the good sense to buy Sega lol
Lol that was a masterful dodge, you have to give him credit. I'll say this: I just kind of doubt that ff14, while apparently a great game, is the be all end all of this agreement, nor do I think this is about some final fantasy game that's 5 or more years away. PROBABLY ff7 and especially ff16 are coming, but all the particulars aren't worked out yet. I'm in the very small minority that didn't really enjoy the remake, to be honest, but I do hope the games come over.
So Microsoft would be incentivized to release a lesser version of Activisions games on playstation, soooooo Sony is not going to share info ahead of time with Activision regarding Playstation 6....
...making it entirely possible that Microsoft will release lesser version of Activisions games on Playstation. Got it.
I loved the companion system in the Outer Worlds. It gave you the sense of a group of adventurers you get in a classic JRPG, but in a first-person rpg. I'm looking forward to this one. Obsidian doesn't miss often.
I don't think they're going to make Redfall a part of this showcase, because they're either going to release the 60fps patch as quietly as possible, or they're going to go the Cyberpunk route and actively try to fix the game full stop, which they'll want to announce later. If anything they might mention it quickly and say " we've heard you" a bunch of times lol
After Sony's show (which for the record wasn't terrible, just ok), a Fable reveal would be right on time, especially if they were willing to nail down a release window, "2024" most likely because I severely doubt they would give a precise date.
My only problem with Spider-Man 2 is that it just kinda....looks like exactly what you would expect, if that makes sense. I'm sure it will be great. Overall, you can REALLY see the impact of Sony's decision to only focus on the blockbusters. Lots of live service and safe bets.
With all the talk of xbox being doomed because of one game not being quite good enough, am I the only person thinking "oh my God there is a TON of games coming this year already!"
@LX_FENIX Square Enix has become EXTREMELY greedy. They've been throwing the FF name on every genre they can think of, FF7 REMAKE is a bloated project designed to make fans pay $200 for one game, and they've clearly sold out to Sony for a pile of money. FF16 looks good, maybe a bit Devil May Cryish, but yea it's never coming to Xbox, which is fine.
@BrilliantBill I'm still baffled by Redfall. There IS a decent game in there, but to blatantly release an unfinished project considering the state Xbox's first party output is in....unbelievable
This would be great. I read that Silent Hill 2's remake is a timed exclusive (but you know how Sony is lately), but MGS 3 is probably my favorite one, so if xbox gets it, great!
This has been a very unusual generation, and there haven't really even been any series x exclusive games yet. If Microsoft is smart they won't even talk about a new machine until they manage to get some games on the shelf.
October makes sense actually, I didn't get the feeling it was dropping this summer, and a month after Starfield would be a good spot. I also expect Hellblade to come in November. Despite all of our whining (yes, me included), if they pull those 3 games off, it will have been a hell of a year.
It seems like some people only read the headline or something. I don't think Microsoft are saying that NONE of the games they.show are coming out in the next year, just that there will be a few that are farther out. Microsoft doesn't like to provide release dates anyway, and they probably feel like they burned themselves last year promising those games would be out within a year. Honestly if they say Forza, Starfield and maybe Hellblade 2 will be out within a year, maybe finally show Fable and State of Decay, with maybe a teaser of Elder Scrolls, I'd be satisfied.
Redfall's terribleness has been overstated. it's not like the worst game in history or anything. They dropped the ball to be sure, but the main issue with Redfall is that it feels aimless and unfinished. there have been MANY worse games. the shooting feels ok (could be better), the exploration is fine (could be better), etc. it's a 6/10 or so, not great but everyone should calm down.
There's an enormous amount of negativity surrounding xbox right now. As disappointed as we are about the launch of Redfall, it sucks that people are behaving this way. I'll say again, if Forza and Starfield are good, this will have been a pretty damn good year overall.
@GuyinPA75 it comes down to what Arkane does. This game with fixed controls, 60 fps, and a patch to add more and possibly smarter enemies actually wouldn't be a bad game at all. I'm expecting a big patch in the next few months, Arkane is a very important studio for Xbox. This isn't the last word on Redfall.
Obviously it isn't great. It feels unfinished and unfocused, as everyone has said, BUT I expect there to be a patch at some point that improves the frame rate, enemy AI and enemy density, which would actually make it a decent time at least. I never saw Redfall as being as vitally important as a lot of people did, so that's just me
@AverageGamer what does that have to do with now? If you hire someone and you realize it hasn't worked out, you hire someone else or you tear it all down. That's where they are if Starfield and Forza don't deliver.
To be fair, if Starfield is good (it probably will be), Forza comes out late this summer, and the third game is released (Hellblade 2 seems the most likely there), this will have been a very successful year. Redfall is a mess, but i think people might be going a little overboard. Now, if Starfield is trash....
Oh stop, Phil. Let's get something out of the way here. Microsoft has known for at LEAST a year that this game wasn't coming together. That's why they delayed it, that's why actual game play was rarely shown, that's especially why there was a review embargo. It was a trash game and Phil and everyone knew it. Maybe Arkane was hellbent on releasing it, who knows, but this pretending you didn't know what was happening is ridiculous. You released the game because you could see the game wasn't getting any better, you wanted to at least recoup some of your investment, and you were ready to have Arkane move on to Dishonored 3. Just say that.
I know we've been brutal (deservedly) on xbox for a few days, but to be be fair, if Forza, Stanfield, and the third game I suspect they're launching this year (I'm guessing Hellblade 2), come out and are in good shape, we really can't complain TOO much about the year.
Spencer pretty much admits what I've always wondered: Xbox is entirely TOO hands-off with their developers. There's something to be said for letting the teams work in peace, but the lack of oversight given to their projects is a MAJOR problem. whoever is responsible for keeping the teams on track, and getting these games completed on time and in good shape isn't doing a very good job to say the least. i think Microsoft is at a point where they will need to decide whether Xbox as a brand is worth continuing, but if it is, there will need to be a MAJOR restructuring, possibly starting with Phil himself. He's been in his position for 10 years and is Xbox in a much greater place than when he started? They were in distant 3rd place when he was promoted. where are they now..?
i think everyone who played Redfall yesterday came to a similar conclusion: it doesn't feel finished. Microsoft clearly knew the game wasn't coming along very well, which is why it was delayed (imagine how bad it would have been if they had released it LAST YEAR!). It just seems like Microsoft decided it couldn't delay the game again, so they dropped it. i figure there will be some small patches here and there and in the next few months a larger update to address some of the many issues. Think Fallout 76. I'll say it again: Starfield had better be good. I think pretty much everyone has one foot out the door by now.
A few hours in here, and if there is a silver lining, it's the gavt that this game has highlighted exactly what the problem is at Microsoft: their quality control is abysmal. They have had years to look at this game and see it wasn't coming together properly, to either cancel it or push it out, or of nothing else to ensure that these fairly obvious problems are ironed out. We know they knew that the game wasn't very good because of the review embargo (usually the sign of a bad game). Whoever is responsible for making sure games under the Microsoft umbrella come out ON TIME and more importantly in good shape, is stealing money at this point.
I've played a few hours and the word that keeps coming to mind is "rushed". It feels like this project was pushed because Arkane felt it could be profitable, but it needed more time, even with the delays. I saw someone compare it to Fallout 76, which is fair, because I do expect there to be several extensive patches made for Redfall. It's probably a 6/10 right now but many of the shortcomings seem fixable, honestly. A patch could add more enemies, possibly make them more aware of you (they often just stare at you for a few seconds before reacting), some graphical polish, etc. There's a pretty good game in there somewhere, but this is a bad look right now. Microsoft needed a win here, especially after Benedict Fox. All I can say is that Starfield had better be great...
