It was the ONE generation where Microsoft did a decent job of releasing software on time and in a reasonably good state. It helped that Sony dropped the ball early on, but this was the one truly consistent generation of Xbox.
In true Microsoft fashion they completely obliterated every drop of goodwill they worked so hard for literally at the ANNOUNCEMENT of their follow up system, but that's neither here nor there lol
My only problem with this is their continued refusal to simply state whether or not it's ever coming to Xbox. We shouldn't have to decipher statements and infer intent. This is a simple yes or no question that they (and Phil Spencer for some reason) refuse to answer directly, and it's gotten BEYOND annoying. That and the tone deaf way Microsoft keeps letting Square show up to showcases to announce things no one asked for lol
This is SO stupid. No one gave a crap about this game when it was announced (I played the first game, and it was pretty fun), but as soon as it releases and is good, suddenly there's a petition? I agree that the console wars are dumb, but this just comes across as desperate xbox gamers.
I think covid is going to have one last laugh here. I'm guessing the new machine is out in 2027, in November as usual, and it will launch with a Halo game, a Forza and Elder Scrolls 6 in the launch window. And I think it will be surprisingly powerful.
When Microsoft announced Game Pass, a lot of people laughed and said it would fail. A lot of other people, myself included, said that Sony would stand by and wait, and if the service made money Sony would have their own service soon. Not only did they, but Nintendo even had their version as well.
It's the same here. Not to disappoint the console warriors but if and more than likely WHEN Microsoft starts raking in the money by ignoring the ridiculous exclusive idea, Sony will eventually do the same. Sure, at first Sony will puff their chests out and probably make their summer showcase an "Only on Playstation" fest, but Sony likes money too, and they would LOVE to sell Spider-Man to everyone who wants to buy it. Exclusivity is archaic, anti-consumer nonsense that ONLY gamers put up with or promote, and it's far past time for it to end. Microsoft is taking a calculated risk here, but they aren't wrong.
I'm not going to pretend that I know how much a game should cost to make, but I WILL say that anytime you see a game set in a version of the past, or a fantasy realm and the dialog is lazily modern English, you're in trouble lol. It also doesn't help when despite the trappings at the end of the day, the game is just a shooter. It had a few good ideas, but this was a prime example of a half-baked game.
Microsoft are (SURPRISE SURPRIIIIIIIISE) handling this terribly. I have the feeling they are going to vomit out some sort of vague statement that doesn't even address the main issues, after making everyone wait a week lol
I'd buy it as long as it's not stream-only. I'd like to be able to download my games. Even better if the machine took the same memory cards as the series console. Especially because Microsoft makes good machines in general. They'd over design the thing lol. OLED screens and haptic feedback, 4k 120 lol
There will be an xbox after the Series x/s, but after that (up to 15 years from now), the market will be massively different. Gaming will be largely digital, something you do through your phone, tv or computer. "Xbox" will essentially be an app, as will Playstation and Nintendo (actually Nintendo is so stubborn they may be still making Switch 3 lol)
In some ways, Starfield is the epitome of what's wrong with open world games: the focus seemed much more on the game being huge than on it being compelling. It's a fun playthrough but there's too much bloat, and too many things thay don't make sense which breaks immersion for me.
@eire-shabba or have Destiny 3 with an actual honest-to-goodness single player mode. In place of the current muddled nonsense it calls single player now.
I played Starfield for about 40 hours all told. I had a good time, but I'm fairly certain I'm not going back for a while. Bethesda made a huge mistake by going with the "1000 planets" thing. The game should have taken place across like...3 planets densely packed with things to do. They seemed to go with 1000 because it sounds like a big impressive number, but it made the game too thin. A mile wide but an inch deep as they say. I love Bethesda...but I got bored.
This is the biggest nothing burger ever. If we're still not getting FF7 Remake, we don't CARE. If we're still never getting FF 16 we don't care. What does this even mean? That in 5-7 years when FF 17 comes, we MIGHT see it on Xbox?? Phil REALLY stood on that stage, knowing that xbox fans want those games, to tell us that FF 14 was coming? Knowing the other games weren't coming? Star Ocean 2 remake? No? This whole thing is meaningless!
Really enjoyed that. Interesting that every game mentioned has already released except for HellBlade. Could be a hint that it will be released relatively soon...
I might be an outlier, but I'm more interested in what new IPs will be created. There are some very talented people in there, I want to see what they can create from scratch.
@Romans12 I'm at around a 7 as well. The controls are off, which isn't a huge problem until like you said the bosses. Too many times I'll push a button once and P attacks an extra time, leaving you open to attack. I almost never feel like From software games are unfair, just hard. This game often feels unfair. Needs a patch.
@NeutronBomb very true, which is probably why they refuse to do it lol. Don't get me wrong I love these games but I'm reluctant to buy them outright because I know I'm super unlikely to get anywhere near finishing them lol
@Titntin me too! And Elden Ring was still difficult even with the over leveling, but it was a MANAGEABLE difficulty and it made the game so much more fun not having to sweat out every second of the game
@OldGamer999 I just don't understand why these games limit their appeal by refusing to include difficulty options. Not only for us old folks but for people who don't have time to fight each boss 40 times. I've been saying for years that someone is going to make a great soulslike, add a difficulty option, then sell an enormous number of copies lol
Lol I continue to not understand this. If it were Sega I would get it. Sega alone arguably would have solved many if not most of Microsoft's problems with content. Where do they keep getting the idea that Nintendo is open to selling?
@BacklogBrad you too?! I was able to get about 14 hours in, but....I just wasn't enjoying it. It's SO PADDED! it's obvious that Square was determined to make multiple parts out of it, so EVERYTHING is a slog designed to make everything you do take longer. I'm glad it isn't just me, I really don't like it.
Lol OK well let me add fuel to the fire. Did anyone else notice that Square ALSO announced that they would be selling the first part of the trilogy and the second part as a package? Kind of interesting, considering that surely the vast majority of playstation fans who are so inclined have played the first part by now....just saying....
Screen Rant gave it a 7 partially because it doesn't introduce a whole new cast of characters...
....what fighting game do you know of, or have EVER heard of, that does that? That's a good illustration of why you shouldn't put so much stock in reviews. There's always one or two who give a lower or higher score just to draw traffic.
Why aren't we talking more about the fantastic job the Coalition is doing with Gears? 4 was a really good start, and 5 was incredible, and HiveBusters deserve their own series.

Re: First Two Xbox Exclusives Coming To 'Rival Consoles' Reportedly Revealed
@theduckofdeath EXACTLY. And if this brings big money to Microsoft, Sony will end up following suit, and for once the gamers will benefit lol
Re: First Two Xbox Exclusives Coming To 'Rival Consoles' Reportedly Revealed
My two cents:
When Microsoft announced Game Pass, a lot of people laughed and said it would fail. A lot of other people, myself included, said that Sony would stand by and wait, and if the service made money Sony would have their own service soon. Not only did they, but Nintendo even had their version as well.

Jade Empire, Mechassault, Crimson Skies and Blue Dragon, to start.

Bad news that Phil will try his damnedest to make sound like good news.
Re: Xbox Indie Developer Shares His Concerns Following This Week's Rumours
This might be...
....and this is saying a LOT...
...but this might end up being the dumbest thing they've ever done. And this is a company who thought it was a good idea to try to ban sharing games.
And tried to force us to own a kinect, which the audience CLEARLY didn't want.
And tried to casually introduce DRM to their console as if it was GOOD news.
And stopped greenlighting games for over a year.
And passed on buying Insomniac.
And thought they could buy Nintendo.
And made their 2014 E3 video game conference about TV functionality instead of video games.
This might end up being THE dumbest thing.

They should take a cue from Sony and just start remaking the remakes.
Resident Evil 4 Remake 4k Remaster Champion Edition.
Oh and spread it over 3 games like Square so you can charge $200 for it. They'll have to add hours of bloat, but they can manage.

@Mephisto2869 that's exactly my point. Gamers are the ONLY people who have to do that.

Re: Free Play Days: Try These Xbox Games For Free (October 19-22)
@thebizniznizbiz yea that's what I'm doing, keeping last year's title, the new one isn't worth it. EA needs to bring back NBA Live, for competition.
Re: Thanks To Starfield, UK Xbox Sales Enjoyed A Huge Increase In September
Weird, right? It's almost like if you actually manage to put decent games on the shelf people will buy your console...
