Following reports earlier today that Asha Sharma had hired new leaders for Team Xbox, the boss has shared a short statement on social media confirming the news, while also revealing that some features are going to be retired.
"Xbox needs to move faster, deepen our connection with the community, and address friction for both players and developers. Today, we promoted leaders who helped build Xbox, while also bringing in new voices to help push us forward. This balance is important as we get the business back on track. As part of this shift, you’ll see us begin to retire features that don’t align with where we’re headed. We will begin winding down Copilot on mobile and will stop development of Copilot on console."
The big takeaway here is that Copilot is being wound down for mobile, and development is ceasing entirely for the console version. As recently as March, Xbox had been showing off how Copilot would work on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, allowing players to access AI help when they got stuck in games such as Forza Horizon and Sea Of Thieves.

This news is particularly interesting when you consider that Sharma just hired four leaders from Microsoft's CoreAI division, although the Xbox CEO has made it clear recently that she wants to "refocus" the brand's AI efforts and centre them around "player problems like enhancing real-time graphics, improving discovery and deepening personalization".
