At this point, I don't believe that this is about Call of Duty anymore. Sony hasn't had to compete in years, truly. Nintendo does its own thing, and Microsoft hasn't been in a position to push Sony since the 360. Now Microsoft threatens not only to own a lot of IPs but more importantly, they now have a high number of talented studios. It's not the IPs they'll own; it's the new ones that will spring up. By this generation's end, Microsoft will be able to produce the same number of AAA exclusives. Theoretically, they won't be able to dominate the market because no one else is making the kinds of games they do. That's what they're fighting, competition.
Noooooo I'd MUCH rather watch Phil congratulate Sony (again) for somehow (how do they do it?!) managing to actually release a game! That's way more fun than playing games ourselves!
Lol some of you guys sound like you're watching your favorite fighter get his brains beat out. "No this is all part of the strategy! He's letting the other guy tire himself out, you'll see!" It's fine i guess, but this would be easier to accept if we were playing Starfield...or any of the multitude of games that Microsoft has promised but not delivered. 2 games. They have successfully released TWO games this generation, and one of THOSE was a year late. I love my xbox, but I'm not going to spend this generation applauding Sony for releasing games, while hoping Microsoft manages to put SOMETHING out.
@Gloki_junior the problem in this case seems to be a programming error by Sega. The game runs at 1080p at 60fps, but you have to manually switch your system to 1080p, which shouldn't be necessary. It will be patched fairly soon I'd guess.
@c1979h not male or break as in going out of business, more in terms of public confidence, which will affect Game Pass. You really think everything will be fine if they spend ANOTHER year not launching games, delaying this, cancelling that? They'd better start actually releasing games. They based their entire E3 presentation on games coming out in the next year, so they know it too. People will start getting fed up soon.
Tale Two's business model is essentially to resell the same game to their gullible customers for $70 a pop, so I'm not sure they were the right people to ask about Game Pass in the first place. That being said, 2023 is likely to make or break Game Pass, and maybe the long term future of Xbox. If they don't (finally) manage to put some compelling first party content on the service, it's probably over. Yes i know they've announced a bunch of stuff, and to their credit nobody is better at announcing games than Microsoft, but I'm talking about DELIVERING games...
@Tharsman and I tell people all the time (before they accuse me of being jealous, lol) that as good as those games are from Sony, they generally aren't for me. My gaming time is quite limited at this point of my life, so i simply can't get into games that rely so heavily on cutscenes and try so hard to be movies. i tend to lean heavily on games that just kind of get out of the way and let you play them. I remember when God of War came out in 2018, Conan O'Brien did a Clueless Gamer episode for it. There's a cutscene playing, and he turns to the camera and says, "I haven't touched a button in 45 minutes". He was exaggerating, of course, but only kind of. They're great games, but not my thing anymore.
At this point, I'm ok with this and FF7 Remake never coming. It's fine. What isn't ok, and what is just patently wrong, is Square refusing to simply SAY that they aren't coming. If Sony wrote some gigantic checks, fair enough, that's the business, but to refuse to openly state that the games aren't coming seems like an underhanded way to avoid making gamers angry by trying to give them hope that maybe someday...
The Gunk is SO underappreciated. There really isn't anything like it, and it's really fun. Almost certainly will never get a sequel. It has "cult classic" written all over it.
What have they actually gotten done with this game?
I'm starting to question whether ANY of the 700 games Microsoft announced in 2019 are actually being worked on, or if this is all just them trying to maximize game pass subscriptions (look at all these games we SWEAR we're working on!!) This game should be nearly done and they're still bringing in support studios? Why are they SO bad at delivering games? It legitimately doesn't make sense at this point. Sony and Nintendo manage to get games out all the time comparatively. 2023 better be STUFFED with games or something is seriously wrong...
There's "a little light" and There's "absolutely nothing" lol. Look Xbox fans have been supernaturally patient, so let's not pretend this is a 2022 issue or a COVID issue. 2023 needs to see real next generation, first-party releases hit, or I don't know....
The gameplay is really fun, the plot is pretty standard but interesting....
But those graphics. YUCK.
I know graphics aren't everything and what have you, but I really hope there's some kind of next-gen update or something, because between the muddy, blurry textures, the weird plastic doll characters, and the atrocious lighting, this game is FUGLY in some places. I'll buy it when it's around 30 bucks because it IS fun, but seriously lol
I'm having a hard time getting excited for the arrival of yet another Frustration Simulator, but I genuinely hope it turns out well, I know how popular these games are and I do like Team Ninja in general.
@Titntin My point, which you seem to have somehow missed entirely, is that Sony seems to get away with not innovating much IN their sequels. The games are still good, absolutely, but the same way reviewers and fans KILL Ubisoft for not changing much game to game, they also point out that games like Horizon and R&C are just another in the series. I LOVE Ratchet and Clank, but come on, that last 4or 5 of them have essentially been the same game. It's just weird that they never get called out on it.
@Royalblues isn't it weird that Ubisoft makes the same AC and Far Cry games over and over and everyone complains, but Sony releases Ratchet and Clank and Horizon games (and remasters a game for the SECOND time in 10 years) that are good, but are basically almost identical to previous games in their series, but no one says anything?
This is awesome of true. I really MGS 4 could be a part of this too, but it is what it is. I'm especially excited for MGS 1as I haven't played it in years 😅
@IronMan30 yeah, no way Microsoft turns down the kind of money they stand to make by keeping COD multiplat. But don't be surprised if down the road we see something like a COD spinoff or something that is exclusive.
I'm just not understanding this. Where was all this hoopla when Sony bought Naughty Dog, or when they made an exclusive Spider-Man game, or any of the dozens of times they've paid developers extra to put games on everything except for the Xbox? All of a sudden there's a problem lol
lol this generation has been quite the cluster (expletive deleted), hasn't it? i think that Microsoft will do their very best to avoid raising the price, as they are still in 3rd place, technically. they can afford to hold out a while. HOWEVER, if they believe that a price increase is inevitable, they'll likely just go ahead and do it now.
i've BEEN saying this. the economics of game development make it harder to justify not selling your games to as many people as possible. i expect, literally by the end of this generation, to see an "exclusive" be a game that stays on its home platform for a year, MAYBE two, before being ported everywhere. despite how much money Sony has made off the IP, how much money are they leaving on the table by not letting everyone play Spider-Man? Exclusives serve no one but the fanboys...and to hell with them lol
@Dezzy70 here is what i think will mostly likely happen within the next 5 years: there will always be exclusives, but it will become less common. most 1st party games will be TIMED exclusives. games like Spider-Man and maybe Gears, games that we know would sell like crazy, will go to the "other" platform 1-2 years after they release on their home console, basically when sales of the title begin to slow down on the home console. this would prop up sales and even help keep prices down (you wouldn't need to charge $70 if you know you can add 1-5 million more sales this way). fans would still stick with their preferred console because they'd get to play these games first, but ultimately, as game production budgets get bigger and bigger, full permanent exclusivity will make less and less sense. Hell, Companies would already be doing this if they weren't so sure we'd whine and cry about it lol
Sony has been paying extra to keep games off of Xbox and competing platforms for a long time, Microsoft has from time to time as well. everyone is aware that exclusivity is a central pillar of Sony's business model. fair enough. the problem is when Sony tried to complain about the possibility of Microsoft doing exactly what Sony does ALL THE TIME (remember, a lot of people think Sony will end up owning Square Enix, and if they do, no one thinks Final Fantasy will ever leave Sony platforms ever again). it's the hypocrisy that's setting people off here lol
@SplooshDmg this would have been taken care of before Sony entered into its publishing agreement with 505. No way they agreed to let them publish it wherever they wanted. It's certainly possible that it cones to game pass, but certainly not because Sony is powerless to stop it from happening lol
@ymo1965 try it for yourself. It's tough, but nowhere near Soulslike. There's a casual mode that I wish all difficult games used that helps you if you die too much without actually making the gameplay any easier. It's a great game.

All I see is "Final Fantasy 7 remake is neeeeeever coming."

Microsoft may soon own COD.
COD is a top seller for Playstation.
Sony is therefore afraid that Microsoft will do EXACTLY WHAT SONY WOULD DO if they owned COD.
Microsoft isn't really motivated to do that, but Sony doesn't want to take the chance.
Easy.
