It's been just over a year now since Xbox and Bethesda shadow dropped The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on us in April of 2025, and even though it's proved popular and the reviews on the Xbox Store are pretty impressive overall, the folks over at Digital Foundry have been highlighting multiple ways in which it's "still broken".
If we go back to May of 2025, we covered Digital Foundry's assessment on all ports of the game being "affected by hitching, crashes, bugs, major sub-60fps drops, and an uneven 30fps line on quality mode", and the outlet explains that because there's been no major update for Oblivion Remastered since July of 2025, these issues persist.
"As you may have noticed, the game hasn't been patched on PC since its 1.2 update arrived in July 2025 - a very short post-launch support window, given that the game was only released in late April the same year. Unfortunately, that abandonment means that the game remains in a state that could be described as anywhere from "annoying" to "practically unplayable", depending on your appetite for persistent hitches and stutters, crashing and other profound technical woes."
Another thing that was an issue back then was degrading performance over time — Digital Foundry suggested that a potential memory leak was causing the frame rate to drop.
They've attached new images from the PS5 version to show this still exists:
"We've checked and the degradation in console performance over time and the crashes are still there"

The outlet sums up their analysis by stating that "Oblivion Remastered is unfortunately still in a bad place", and that "while we re-tested on PlayStation 5, other versions remain problematic too".
Will we get another update for it? That remains to be seen, but it does seem likely considering how the game will soon be launching for Nintendo Switch 2, which hopefully will coincide with a new patch across all platforms.
How do you feel about it on Xbox specifically though? We did mention in our initial "Hands On" of Oblivion Remastered that we had run into technical issues, but we admittedly haven't played it much in recent months, so what's the verdict from the Pure Xbox community? How desperate is Oblivion Remastered for an update?
