Sony are being obnoxiously stubborn over it and its gonna take a big hitter ie GTA, Battlefield, CoD etc to get them to change their position. This one wont do it sadly.

Id like to see a few announced then drop this year but expectations in check on that front.

Psyched to see all the first party stuff in pipeline though. Hopefully see a lot of gameplay.

If Sony were partnering with them in some way it would create an interesting scenario but I dont see it happening.

It could be a threat to Stadia etc but on its own I dont think its a direct competitor to Game Pass.

@gingataisen I think the narrative went long before this gen. But I dont disagree getting back on top in their home region would be a bonus. Just that there isnt really that age old sales battle anymore.

@SegataSanshiro True point taken. I too am also a fan, Series X owner and a GP subscriber. I just think the whole sales and regional battle a bit of a dead horse.

Still some conquering there for the taking though. Keen to see how Japanese market looks once Xcloud grows out there.

Worrying. I know they are far more than just Halo and Forza but if the only big hitters this year are Halo and Forza big Phil is going to have to get on it with the messaging again.

@gingataisen @SegataSanshiro unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your view) its not the 90s/early 2000s anymore the console war narrative has gone. No one reigns supreme these days.

Playstation and Xbox are almost like Coca Cola and Pepsi at this point. One may have the edge in a region but ultimately they now do their own thing.

Proof will be in the pudding so to speak. Lets hope they do cultivate their studios. Buying ready made ones is great but I think studios built from the ground up like The Initiative will be key to success this gen.

Its all a lot of melodrama. Its not an ideal business practice but it happens and they all do it.

Everyone forgets Rise of the Tomb Raider. All the big 3 have been at it before. Nothing really new just Sony pushing it harder these days.

Timed Exclusivity deals are no different than the whole release a film/tv show on one service then release it on demand elsewhere. Just business and they are all at it.

@JayJ its more that the Pushsquare reviewer feels it is their ideal Resi game. Every opinion will be different.

I do agree on the marketing and incentives bit . One thing I like more than anything about Pushsquare here and Nintendolife is the review quality. Always objective.

Was always going to be difficult to blend Resi 7 and 4 together. Sounds like they did a good job of that overall though.

@Snake_V5 very rare for Sony and MS to make pure profit from hardware now. Not until at least mid to late through the gen. That said pandemic will factor in.

Subscriptions and Services are the big earner these days.

@LtSarge Not naive thinking. Some on here do oversell it slightly but thinking about it.

The Xbox One first party output late in its cycle was relatively low particularly during the year before next gen dropped.

Those devs have been busy beavering away on next gen titles. Not without possibility some of them could drop this year in quick succession.

First party will increase on Xbox exponentially over the next couple of years and I also like you think a few could drop close together this winter.

@UltimateOtaku91 I disagree. We have seen in tv/movie circles shows and films exlusively on streaming services creators have felt freedom to take risks due to guaranteed income. Some of those risks have paid off massively. So going pure subscription hasnt been a bad thing.

I think it will be the same on gaming. Devs will receive a lump sum guaranteed. Could breed complacency sure, but I think that freedom to take risks knowing money is coming in regardless will empower devs not hinder them or put pressure on to rush through meidocre products.

@Senua if they add Microsoft Teams app to Xbox would be perfect. I can take all.my work calls while playing Forza.

Them being enemies is just something being portrayed in the media to generate hits.

This is a win for both companies. Sony gets the benefit of Microsofts cloud infrastructure and expertise. And in turn Microsoft gets a massive client buying into Azure that would otherwise probably go to Amazons service.

I too wonder why Sony think theirs will be unique though. All I can think of they have some big plan to make their entire back catalogue streamable. Might be a licensing nightmare there though.

For me I would buy one either way and have.

Despite some opinions on here I am going to say something I am sure I will get it in the neck for.

I dont think for the average joe they would see Game Pass as essential until next gen first party games start to appear on there and Microsofts first party output on there increases.

What I wont get it in the neck for saying is when that does happen. That 23 million? Will double in a very short space of time. E3 will be big for that. The value is great as it is but with all the first party output on there too? Immense.

Ori and Halo are amazing games.

I think even racing game haters would agree Forza Horizon 4 sets itself apart from them. In a market almost saturated with racers its a one of a kind game.

I own all 3 so maybe Im biased to the hype but I honestly dont get the big deal.

MLB published it on Xbox but Sony developed it so their logo was bound to feature.

@TheFrenchiestFry probably not as I think Bethesda will still show as the publisher. But nothing would surprise me after this past year.

Its not really Sony putting it on Game Pass. Its MLB wanting it on there and making that happen.

That said it will rile Sony up. They will have to respond soon. They could put it on PS Now but that will set a precedent quicker than they would like I'd imagine.

Phil has been a game changer for the brand. They had a lot of work to do to repair some bad PR after the Xbox One launch. Was a genius move putting him charge done a cracking job and now the brand is fighting on all cylinders again.

Stadia is dead in the water.

Agree with previous commenters though. The workaround is great for accessing PC game libraries.

One for the audiophiles I think. For the rest of us great alternatives that are much more affordable.

Not a knock on them though. There is a hardcore market there for them. Great they are offering a product for that crowd.

Then you have Activision charging for an upgrade to Tony Hawk on both consoles. But Crash upgrade was free.

Its all one big mess and companies almost cherry picking when to charge and where.

@LtSarge Mafia Definitive Edition? Cracking game that. Was so dissapointed with the Mafia 2 remaster and all the glitches nearly put me off going for Mafia 1 but Hangar 13 nailed it.

To an extent forgot this game still existed haha. But looks like a riot.

Through college, uni and after I have replayed all the games so many times cant recommend this series enough.

Credit goes to the team behind Shenmue for me though. I got into the first game as a substitute for Shenmue after the 2nd game. Not looked back since.

This will get enough backlash if its not a technical issue they will probably reverse it.
