@TrollOfWar that was a business dispute not a console war. The SNES vs Mega Drive was amongst the respective fanbases but also a lot more aggressive in terms of their TV advertising etc. You won't see anything like that again.

That aside in my view at least the console wars ended with SNES and Mega Drive. After that it's just been driven my social media and mostly in certain fans heads.

Ultimately gaming has moved on for better or worse into what makes the most money. MS saw it first and acted. Sony now following suit.

Nothing shocking about it could see it coming and generally will be how things are now.

@fatpunkslim I'd say he was paid nothing. He's just trying to stay relevant in the gaming space by putting opinion pieces out.

Ultimately PS and Xbox are moving in two different directions now. And neither are wrong.

I wouldn't say he's fuelling a fake console war Playstation have lost. Can't lose something that doesn't exist.

Game Pass is good value and MS offsetting the cost putting games on Playstation that sell like hotcakes is clever. Similarly PlayStation not putting first party on PS plus also makes sense. Their titles sell well and they can't absorb the cost of putting them on PS plus day one.

What he's coming out with ultimately is just fanning flames and blowing smoke. Not the first and won't be the last.

I'm enjoying it so far. They went back to basics with it. It is short. It is very linear. But it also didn't release at full price. It's designed as a throwback to the originals and I think judging it against that they hit all the right notes. Some of the reviews were a bit harsh.

Keen on this though I feel ill need to get a keyboard and mouse for it. Games like this never translate to console control schemes well.

I also didn't know she was on the ESA board either. Can't imagine she's making as much from that as she will from this though.

I think at least initially they will be looking at what live service titles they can port.

But it is a sign of a multiplatform future. I expect Nintendo to be last to the party on it however.

@Banjo- Agreed. We are in a time where gaming is in line with film and TV where it's all driven by money over creativity it's not great.

I do miss the days where you whacked a cartridge in and just played.

Sony and Nintendo not caring as much as they did in the 90s. Couldn't agree more and I include Xbox when I say this. Gaming has changed.

The days of gaming being simply a joy and an escape have been replaced by corporate greed sadly.

Game broke? Blow down the cartridge and put it back in - fixed. Has been replaced by not enough Game? Pay a bit more to get more of it. It's sad.

@Kaloudz May be able to find another publisher but depends if MS owned the IP or not.

Makes what he says a bit less weighty but still raises the question of who green lit the trailer going out. Can blame the Devs for adding the fake segments in there but someone signed off airing that.

@DarthAmmii I don't think he has a case he's trying to help. He's gaslighting a bit sure but all he's doing is saying I worked on this it was playable but fake bits were thrown in to get the trailer out there. Blokes probably just lost his job so he's going to throw stones now. Can't blame him.

@WildConcept6 The reality there is with Perfect Dark at least. A studio was created from scratch. Hyped up massively by people who were imo responsible for managing the studio and the project. Those people are still there. Those in the background working on it - gone.

It's a bitter pill to swallow for those guys when there is an argument those who are safe aren't really taking any accountability when it should have been on them to manage it in the first place.

The wider thing though can't argue. Xbox has been killing it and Xbox only gamers will still have enough to keep them happy. We called Sony out for how Bungie has been handled though. Got to do it here too.

@IronMan30 I agree industry is changing that way and very fast. But I think Sony can for now at least afford to cherry pick what they put out there. I think for MS their hand is a bit more forced. For now at least anyway.

@Fiendish-Beaver I think it has cross play so my answer to that would be it doesn't matter whichever you play on that has the better specs.

@IronMan30 I think Sonys multiplat strategy will very much start with the live service titles to begin with though.

It's strategically at least easier for MS to take all first party multiplat as they have the day one on GP value card to play with it.

I can't see for example the big budget single player titles for PS5 going to Xbox. Not this gen anyway.

My view on this and if it does still exist console wars is officially dead as all three now will be positioned in their own unique space.

Playstation will be for console traditionalists and those who like PS exclusives. MS will be for the PC gamer market who want a hybrid between PC and console. And Nintendo will be for .... Well there will still only be one place to play their games.

What it will do is make it more difficult for let's say Amazon, or Apple if they wanted to, to break into the console market I mean look how Google fared with Stadia. To offer something unique with the way these three are positioned now imo wouldn't be doable.

GTA always gets a delay. Plus is it's a specific release date now. Whatever comes out we know will be quality Rockstar for all the silence and pushbacks usually always deliver.

@fatpunkslim Doom and Oblivion are not games from Xbox owned studios. Who owns Id and Bethesda again? lol. And Doom is a day one release.

Fact check aside I do agree with your original point though. It doesn't matter. It's going to make MS money why shouldn't they capitalise on it.

@gollumb82 you aren't wrong but I think Fraser has said before. Industry buzz is all over MS bringing titles to PS5 at the min so any news around it drives site traffic.

I think it sometimes depends on what they used as the lead platform during develoment. If it was PC then scaling perhaps was a little easier between the formats.

Bottom line no matter what you pick as your preferred choice. Grand Theft Auto shifts systems. They will all benefit from increased sales.

Imo a really good decision this. Too many Devs under pressure from publisher's to hit deadlines send releases out in unfinished states.

Credit to them for making what after all the graft was still a hard decision to make. Props to Sega too for supporting that.

Good news though. I'd been giving it a try on Xbox admittedly due to having more hard drive space left but good to see the extension being applied to all formats and not just one.

@Fiendish-Beaver Agree and slightly disagree with that. If it's on a showcase/update youtube show would expect some deal in place for marketing too. How aggressive they go with that marketing would be my concern with them not being a Microsoft Studio though. Rare to see indies getting external marketing push.

@Banjo- Aye. Can't lie you know as well as I do though. Nadella is calling the shots now. Whatever gets marketed will be what he thinks will sell. Which is sad. Happened with Sony too. Corporates don't fully understand what gamers want only gamers do which is why Nintendo has been so successful for as long as it has.

@fatpunkslim No it doesn't detract from them already being multiplat but also similarly can't argue this is a big step up from Xbox when it comes to marketing their games and it certainly won't be just service games.

@fatpunkslim Maybe and I don't disagree with where you are coming from. But it isn't just service games they know will bring the money in otherwise the new Doom wouldn't be day one on PS5. They know mainstream games will bring the cash in too.

@Wadeinca1 Doom is multiplat and very mainstream so no surprise there. But I will be surprised if I see South of Midnight on the side of a bus. Let's see.

The metrics are there. MS know how much money is being made moving titles over I'm not sure it's big news anymore.

Do my eyes deceive me. Xbox actually aggressively marketing a game again? That's twice now seen Indy on the sides of buses (in UK) glad to see their marketing team finally making some effort.

@Cakefish in the grand scheme of the releases at that time maybe made the cut. Depends how they are measuring it..

For example Palword if they are counting Game Pass downloads as a seller. If not I'd be more surprised that's in there than the two you mentioned.

Remember. Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games for example were all acquisitions originally.

Microsoft have just gone to another extreme because they have the money to.

@YeyoFairy Ultimately if they wind down on Xbox as a standalone ecosystem and put Game Pass on other platforms. That's where the numbers will come from.

Whether they go down that road time will tell.

For better or worse they are doing no different than let's say Apple or Amazon if they were in the same market. Big tech spend their way to being big tech.

But to be honest if Sony had the same spending power to do it I can't really say they wouldn't have done exactly the same thing. They have been buying studios rather than publishers as that is all they can do within their means.

Outside of this the online alone post launch over time is absolutely going to almost print money.

This is going to be a huge one for Rockstar but as someone who doesn't really bother with online I just hope they nail the single player campaign again.

Why do I now look at that and think it's going to change to a 2d plat like Moon Studios games were. Weird.

Obviously won't be that given the dev time but stranger things have happened.
