@FuzzieGinge88 the risk with that thinking is while captialism is a hard pill to swallow competition isnt.

The one key business phrase still holds true to date "competition drives quality" if the industry was limited to two of the biggest players having a joint machine the risk of complacency goes up ten fold and quality would inevitably suffer.

While the whole acquisition thing is a different problem having a unified machine would create more problems than it solved.

@Banjo- Gotta give it to MS Sony has been reacting to things Xbox does a fair bit last few years but it has gone the other way in the past.

We all know Jim Ryan has a rep but im not writing off the value of Sonys scheme yet loyalty schemes are very adaptable. Even if some of Sonys offerings are not.

UK here and one supermarket has never had a points scheme while others have for years. Launches their own and id argue it surpasses the rest. Took what the others did and launched it with their own spin and paid off.

In agreement here. While there were no megaton announcements was great to almost see pure gameplay.

@Kooky_Daisuke that happened to me too mate compressed air did the job cleaning it out and it was all good. Was a fly with me rather than a wasp and it more or less got eaten up in the fan lol

@Banjo- easier to not respond to them. Fanboys spend more time rabbitting on than actually playing the games they pretend to be so loyal to.

I for one am very happy with this though. MS first party output so far is light years ahead of the latter part of last gen. No matter what console anyone owns (or multiple) in for a cracking 2022 and beyond.

Only downside is how big everyones backlog is going to get. Mines already insurmountable as it is lol.

@DreamlandGem I still have 2020 games in my backlog will never get through it all!

I want to. The world is my type of thing but and what has put me off souls games is that insane difficulty. With so much in backlog im the type to get frustrated with that mechanic pretty quick. I like a challenging boss fight but its on another level for me that.

I am of course assuming this one is no more accessible in that regard than previous entries. Feel free to correct me!

@blinx01 Jim Ryan is just a corporate figure head. Its guys like Hermen Hulst, Shu and Mark Cerny that make Playstation tick. Their structure is different. They are missing Shawn Layden and Jack Tretton for being in the public eye.

Phil loves being out and about in the media. Its good to see.

AM is midnight PM is midday.

Both companies could simply be looking at all the buyups Tencent have been making and reacting to that.

The comittment from both sides to make games multiplat makes me think while ultimately its about profits. Its also to some extent keeping companies like Tencent et al away from key developers.

I just hope the control scheme is well suited to console.

It will run on my laptop im sure but would rather game on my Series X

I cant see them releasing a traditional console.

Apple with hardware has always been about high end high price. In the laptop and mobile space they have success with that.

I just cant see traditional console buyers swallowing a premium price point for potentially similar hardware, nor could I see Apple launching hardware at low markup to drop the price either.

I could see them utilising experienced staff in the software space to beef up Apple Arcade though.

@HaggisNight I think either Sony or Ninty leaving the business would be bad. Competition creates quality.

Leave only one player in the market eventually that drive for quality will be compromised.

I still think all 3 can coexist in the same market. Microsoft are competing more against the major investors in the market like Tencent and to some extent maybe EA/Epic with this more than anything else.

I just hope with the deluge of IPs Microsoft are getting through these acquisitons we dont see the key ones lose any focus.

Crash, Spyro etc they have a massive opportunity to capitalise on the recent revivals of those games. MS said a while back they wanted more family friendly games on Xbox. They have a key opportunity for that now.

Shame its not entirely new but ill take it.

Fable 3 was handled pretty badly as well. Not enough of an evolution on what Fable 2 laid a foundation for.

Confident in Playground Games nailing the reboot though. Cant wait.

It just highlights how big a job Phil and his team had when they took over (I say his team too and stress that as I am sure there are a lot behind the scenes that helped with the turnaround) and with his leadership are in such a better place now.

@UltimateOtaku91 hating Sonic is subjective though. Atlus certainly hasnt been their saving grace overall commercially, they have done so much more than JRPGs that have been successful.

@Carck amazing just how well Sega adapted and recovered after Dreamcast sadly failed.

Would love them to get back in the hardware space one day but I do think they are better off where they are now and that game list proves it.

Comes down to the size of the forum community. Bigger the userbase the more nonsense you will see.

I see it more on PS and NL but I have seen certain users here do it too - look for any thread where they can turn it into and Xbox vs Playstation boxing match. I just hope as this sites userbase grows more again it does not go the same way.

@NEStalgia tbf even though I need coffee to read them all sometimes your comments make sense and I almost always agree with you. Wasnt really directed at you more to those who only seem to comment when they can compare xbox vs ps and take a pop. It gets old.

Honestly - I do think PS users spend way too much time on GamePass and profitability but I am sure you can agree with me too the whole tit for tat between console zealots doesnt half get old very quickly.

Making money and making profits are absolutely two different things but its definitely sustainable. The subscription numbers, the in game purchases by users who may not have dipped into those first party games paying full price, many factors that will make them their money back.

Its been a game changing service and will continue to be that way. They are on to a winner. MS being able to afford to take the risk with it helped, but no doubt eventually it will turn a profit for them.

All that aside I still cant understand how this post prompted all the playstation comments. Wasnt even mentioned in the article. Console wars are a dead horse stop beating it.

My weekend is mirroring Fraser. GTA Trilogy and FH5 for me.

Bugs aside with GTA I am enjoying the nostalgia kick.

Close competition means upping their game. Ends up in quality which benefits all gamers in the end.

Honestly for anyone looking to get one get on Amazon an hour or so before and refresh it. You will get one.

I logged in on works vpn for both series x and ps5 and got both at launch. Definitely doable. Scalpers can do one.

I just hope they keep the campaign for this clean and dont stuff it with MTX like they have done with Avengers.

Time will tell. If they dont this has all the makings of a hit. One of my favourite Marv franchises of recent times.

They got a lot of flack for the release delay (I was also guilty of complaining!) but looking at the footage I think it has really paid off. Cant wait for this.

Vice City is the one I am most looking forward too so I will be buying I think. My favourite one.

Im just going to throw it out there - does any Xbox owner really care? I definitely dont. I own all 3 but even if I didnt cosmetic exclusives just arent worth caring about.

I think there was a perception at the time they were "just another tech company" moving in to make a quick buck with no passion for the industry and the end product.

That perception has completely shifted over time. Its still true in some circles (hello billionaire space race) but not here. They are as much integrated into the gaming space as the other two and thats down to a lot of hard work including the original creators at the time.

I am glad Xbox entered the fray.

@GamingFan4Lyf Pro players loved the Arcadey feel too it. This year its been made much more realistic and more of a challenge.

As a career mode only guy Im loving it makes for a more testing game. The streamers et al who like pulling off daft tricks are hating it.

My backlog is horrendous but I am so ready for this one. Got a 4 day weekend when its out too.

@BlueOcean I know we have had differing opinions sometimes but I agree with you on this. Their review very much reeks of "ah this is some xbox exclusive from years ago not really fussed about the ins and outs of it"

@BlueOcean I agree with the back compat thing but harsh on them to just call them a remasters studio. They are a quality dev. Next project is completely new so be keen to see what they do.

Indeed they have done remasters to date and we all hate the remaster fad but they nailed all of them.

@Trmn8r Agree. And timed exclusives in videogames is childs play compared to other industries. Capitalism does have its benefits. But pitfalls too all the same.
