@BlueOcean If you can find a comment in my comment history where I was condescending personally to you and quote it. I will apologise in this thread (PM function not a thing yet but should be maybe?) But ill be surprised if its there. You didnt like me posting something against a pro-Xbox view. Itll get toxic too quick that I dont want any part of it..
On topic. Like any acquisition its about one thing and one thing alone and that is making money. And lots of it.
Microsoft didnt spend $7.5bil to get good press or please some forum users. Its an investment and shareholders will want a return.
Personally - I think that return would be maximised with existing IPs ie Doom, ES, maybe Wolfenstein being across all platforms. But there absolutely should be an incentive to invest in the Xbox ecosystem from this deal and that is where new IP being exclusive will come into it..
One quote from a press event isnt enough to change my view there. But as an Xbox owner myself if I am proved wrong I will still get to enjoy those games and that is what matters.
@BlueOcean "You know you are wrong" isnt objective either.
I have always given a neutral view. I may be proved wrong but I think they will make a ton of money keeping known IPs multiplat. And they are not a charity after all. Lets see in a year or two down the line.
As for "for once" if you are implying nothing I say is ever objective or realistic. Prove it please.
Done with being attacked for posting simple opinions. Its what other sites do. Hoped it would stay away from here.
@Tharsman time will tell. Could be as you said in previous post. Existing games already released get support. Anything else is exclusive.
Could be "legacy" meaning franchises that have released on other platforms will still do so a la Elder Scrolls, Doom etc. Any future new IPs will release only on platforms that have Game Pass.
I own all 3 I dont mind either scenario I just dont think the presentation made it any clearer.
@BlueOcean Franchises that make money will be multiplat. New IPs like Starfield etc will not.
As much as a big win every Xbox fan says it is. Elder Scrolls and Fallout for example make a lot of money. MS make more by letting them go multiplat than ringfencing them to a few platforms hence they dont do that with Minecraft.
Editors on Pushsquare actually trying to be realistic with the userbase. Is Pushscariers really the way you wanna go with that?
Some will certainly be exclusive but I dont see any games announced before the acquisition being exclusive like Starfield etc. Anything well into development will go multiplat.
License holders will have a massive say there too. If Indy game already in development no way Disney will let that not be multiplat unless MS pay up money for some some separate rights to the license as Sony did with Spiderman.
I definitely can see anything unannounced before the approval this week staying exclusive to the Xbox platform and services.
@Reyren when Fable was Project Ego one of Peter Molyneux's biggest selling points of the game was things like "see a mountain in the distance you can walk to it" he visioned it as an open world experience which back in that era would have been massive. Instead it was more of a hub world and it didnt sit well with many.
Peter Molyneux was one of those. More of a thinker than practical. He had the passion in bucketloads just didnt have the practicality to make his ideas work.
It's really a misleading comparison - the PC market is vastly different to console.
Some PC gamers can perhaps quite rightly say "Consoles are pointless as my set up outperforms them easily" but those who go console for their gaming needs do it because they want to pay one affordable price for all their gaming needs, different type of consumer.
Optimisation for the original Xbox One would be insanely difficult no?
Hard to ignore that install base, but I think it's one of those that is better off skipping last gen, those users will upgrade eventually when stock is more widely available
@Reverandjames Different ball game. Sony purchased movie and tv rights from Disney.
Unless Microsoft have done the same with Indy. Then Disney will control which platforms the the game appears on if that agreement was before the buyout was completed.
Wouldnt surprise me if Microsoft did throw money at Disney however...
I think it was a good decision for Nintendo not to bite same as a few here.
Would have been a good chance to shift focus perhaps but I honestly think the console gaming market has benefitted from having three main players as opposed to two.
In that awkward problem that shouldnt be a problem.
Not bought a new game this year until now. Now I have a Series X, PS5 and roughly 30 odd games if I count my game pass stuff. Struggling to decide what to play and having the old procrastination haha.
Leaning possibly towards the below
Yakuza Like a Dragon - Series X Assasins Creed Valhalla - PS5
This makes sense for them but I hope its to supplement and not instead of, organically growing their own first party studios. Good for the long term and for job creation.
My hunch is this is to supplement and because organically growing takes time. They need to do more like The Initiative in the long term.
@NEStalgia Xbox always showed the game picture in background. On the PS5 UI reveal it showed actually inside the game in the background. Its that bit I thought would be jarring not in 4k. Sorry for confusion!
I think the PS5 UI needs to be 4k. The Series X does not/can afford not to.
The hints/tips function in the new PS5 UI pulls footage direct from gameplay and displays the current game in the background. It would be jarring if that did not display at 4k.
I think it would be a waste of resources for the Xbox to do it unless it offered the same function. As there is no way Xbox gamers would feel a need to bring up the UI in game that often other than switching between games.
Digital Foundrys job to pick that stuff up and talk about it. But kind of pointless.

If I was too hook this up via my LG CX Bluetooth rather than my Xbox could I use on my PS5 and Series X?

Re: Sorry, You Won't Be Able To Dual Wield Weapons In Halo Infinite
Dual wielding weapons was awesome in Timesplitters. Feels out of place in Halo glad they are leaving it out.
Re: Soapbox: Now That It's On Xbox Game Pass, Please Try The Evil Within
I do hope MS let Tango Gameworks have another crack at a horror game if not Evil Within 3, something else.
Need to keep the genre alive and kicking with the best working on it and Mikami is one of them.

Re: God Of War Producer Joins The Initiative's Perfect Dark Team
Ohhh fanboyism is getting rife here. I dont like it dont want this place going down the road of other sites!
Its not an MS win over Sony. Its a dev making a career change. Enough searches on Linkedin reveal some significant switches between devs/publishers.
Good to see The Initiative getting further talent though. I just hope the new Perfect Dark doesnt get overhyped. This dev team need a good start.

Re: Review: The Medium - A Stunning Xbox Series X Showpiece, Let Down By Uninspired Gameplay
How on earth did we get from digesting a game review to politics.
Only in gaming eh 🤣
Re: Review: The Medium - A Stunning Xbox Series X Showpiece, Let Down By Uninspired Gameplay
Ultimately boils down to
After an engaging story/horror experience - 8 or 9/10
After something original on the gameplay front - 5 or 6/10
I'm the former thankfully, but sounds like a love it or hate it kinda situation.
Ironically exactly like their last game was.

@UltimateOtaku91 next gen patch for Yakuza 7 too.
All the companies are at it lol.

They have a marketing deal for the game likely part of that rather than paying just for the demo lol
Re: Hitman 3's Console Version Looks Best On Xbox Series X, Confirms Report
Digital Foundry do amazing work but the whole resolution/fps argument starts to bore me a bit. Lol.
2160p vs 1800p is maybe noticeable if you look hard enough. But I just care how games play. Maybe im getting old.....
Was like the whole Xbox 360 at 900p vs PS3 at 1080p on some games argument. Ultimately who cared as long as the games played well?

Re: Microsoft Reportedly Seeking To Acquire 'Big Names' For Future Buyouts
@FragRed I can't ever see Microsoft doing a hostile takeover, but Amazon/Google/Facebook I can absolutely see them having a go at Ubi to do that.
Watch this space.
Re: Microsoft Reportedly Seeking To Acquire 'Big Names' For Future Buyouts
If they are going to make further acquisitions, I think this should be smaller studios that they can help to nurture.
Blooper Team, Moon Studios for example would be excellent acquisitions.
Re: Video: Ninja Theory Discusses The Art Process Behind Project: Mara
From what they are describing this could be Silent Hill 4: The Room, done with more detail and confined to one space.
If they nail that feeling of isolation, this could be an excellent game.
Not gonna lie as a horror game fan my hype is through the roof on this, I need to temper it a bit
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (Jan 16th)
PS5 - Mafia Definitive Edition having watched Goodfellas in 4k last night in the mood!
Series X - bouncing between Forza Horizon 4 and Twin Mirror
Switch - Mario Galaxy trying to finish before 3D World hits.

PS5 - Assasins Creed Valhalla

Dead Space Trilogy never played it.

Forza Horizon 4

Re: Yes, Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Is Planning To Get A PlayStation 5
@themightyant this is nothing new hes an avid gamer and usually if im not mistaken always games on all three.
So wont quieten the fanboys sadly. Magicing up console wars is all that gets them through their day.
The "traditional" console war died in the early 90s with the mega drive vs snes imo.
These days its just conjoured up by social media and trolls unfortunately.

Re: Roundup: Xbox Series X|S Review Impressions
@KelticDevil
Read my second paragraph. I was agreeing with you. Lol.
You know me from previous threads I always game on both.
But IGN is and always will be, incompetent.
Re: Roundup: Xbox Series X|S Review Impressions
@KelticDevil It has 5 exclusives at launch. Out of all of them only one is appealing like. But its a fair few.
IGN are incompetent and are comparing on a software numbers game rather than the actual hardware. Standard IGN.
Re: Roundup: Xbox Series X|S Review Impressions
@Sol4ris he is basing it off comments from other threads.

Sonic 06 for me. How Sega greenlighted that was beyond me.

@NEStalgia I agree, worrying trend and hope it doesn't go much further than a basic partnership.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Like To See A Smash Bros Style Game On Xbox?
I do not think it would work. For the same reason Playstation All Stars didn't.
Microsoft does not have enough of those iconic characters that would fit into a cartoony-like arcade fighter. Sony doesnt either.
Nintendo does.
If Microsoft or Sony were to do a Soul Calibur or Tekken-like game with their famous faces. That may work.
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Devs Will Reportedly Be Required To Crunch Ahead Of Release

Its not nice to see but with tight deadlines its sadly inevitable.
Lets hope post release the staff get some much needed time off.
Re: Microsoft Explains Why The Xbox Series Expansion Card Is So Expensive
@Tasuki the money Seagate are probably paying MS for the licensing outweighs that concern I think.
