@Alpha_Pulse console wars should have died with Nintendo vs Sega in the 90s sadly the rise in social media has brought out the rhetoric and the inciting language again.
@YonkoBuggyTheClown aye not recognised the mistakes of years ago either. I still remember PS3 and "599 US Dollars!" "Get a second job" "this is more than a console its a computer"
Sometimes its who you put in to sell and manage it thats the issue. Phil Harrison/Ken Kuturagi were an issue back then and Jim Ryan is now.
Ironically MS hired ol' Phil too to help spearhead Xbox One marketing. Look how that turned out.
Im not sure Sony would be back to the same old complacencies and bad practice again if lets say, Shu/Kaz/Andrew House et al were at the helm.
@YonkoBuggyTheClown whilst you are still around. Its nice to see a level head amongst all the drama.
This whole saga has drawn out a lot of hostility and fanboyism and for lack of a better term slagging off of both sites from either side which in itself is flawed logic part of the same publishing house they are technically colleagues.
I think the deal going through is bad for industry consolidation but a part of me would be glad if it closed if it meant drama over and everyone could get back to enjoying gaming again.
@Moonglow Sonys stance on cross play was truly horrendous cant agree more on that one. Couple of counters though.
Sony has been late to the party including PC gamers but it didnt have much incentive to. Xbox has a vested interest as most of the games run on Windows.
PSVR2 only being compatible with Playstation. Would you expect anything less there? Kinect was only compatible with Xbox after all. As Apple do quite successfully if you have spent all the R and D on it why not lock it to your system.
Spot on with the rest though especially with the Switch mention. One would think both being Japanese there would be more collaboration there.
@Jenkinss I am only reading on a twitter thread so I want to check source is right, but did Phil also say to the judge they only bought Zenimax because they learned Sony was trying to pay for Starfield exclusivity?
Makes sense for it to be at least a few years from now. I feel like with all the cross gen games so far this gen hasnt quite kicked into gear yet, and should start to this year.
@Sol4ris maybe they were slow to post knowing how heavily they would need to moderate the comment threads lol. Trolls will jump on their own interpretations of it as usual and the handbags will come out.
Similarly with Sarah Bonds admission that they were worried Xbox would lose COD by Bobby asking for more revenue share. Slightly less of a headline but seeing nothing of that either besides a small tidbit on Sky news here in the UK. Probably for the same reason.
@Moonglow Not at all, but the argument they are making here with this statement is they dont have the resources right now to do it and need ABK to compete.
Does Apple need to acquire another firm to compete with Samsung? Nope its already close anyway and Apple are arguably close to beating Samsung and were until this year, the gap is just wider between IOS vs Android.
Amazon and Disney just need to invest in content and are and that gap between them and Netflix is already narrowing without them acquiring any further production houses to do it.
Azure doesnt need acquire another cloud developer to compete with AWS either, their brand is just more popular right now.
It isnt that the ABK investment wouldnt push Xbox forward and help that ability to compete, it would.
But they are arguing they need it to go through in order to continue to compete at all. and if you look at the resources they have, the number of studios they already own and the fact they are a trillon dollar company, its a struggle to believe that.
@Moonglow I think the point is MS presenting the idea of a trillion dollar company needing to spend another 70bil on another company just to get past 3rd place is frankly, ridiculous.
I will add to that I agree they will be in a far better place moving forward and if it does close I hope they do look at some of the forgotten IPs in ABKs archive, but I think one could argue they have the resources without this acquisition.
Wow a lot of drama on here already. Here is my take on it. Im either going to cause more drama or get a few polite disagreements. Hopefully the latter!
Price Increase was predictable even from MS. Dont like quoting a certain political figure that makes me cringe but inflation is a global issue and we are seeing big corps react accordingly some later than others. The previous article some people are quoting wasnt BS from Microsoft it was spot on, they wanted to hold off passing costs on while they saw what the market would do long term, nothing wrong there.
Subscription price increases are inevitable was bound to happen here.
Do not think it has much to do with the releases suddenly about to become more frequent. I think most consumers casual or hardcore would spot that game a mile off and vote with their wallets accordingly.
Those bragging about using whatever offer was on and getting GPU for however many months/years. Good fer yew. Not everyone has access to that now and it most likely contributed to this happening quicker. Id be mindful of those who missed the boat here. They are the ones paying the higher price in a bad economy now.
Bottom line. GPU is still insane value for money. Even at 12.99 I still think first party day one alone is worth the hike, but doesnt hurt any less.
Im sure ill get some rants and raves at me for this but ill suffix every comment with one thing.
@awp69 both sites do really good reviews sometimes differences are stark but that just shows they allow reviewers to be really independent and give their own review. I use both these sites to get a view on games I havent preordered.
Much more refreshing than the often scripted style of reviews on places like IGN and Gamespot, I think.
@Moonglow Xbox always had games. People focus too much on the back end of the Xbox One gen where first party output was genuinely rather poor. They were focussing dev teams on this and it is about to pay off.
Its going to be a competitive 2024 and ultimately gamers will benefit. Bring it on.
@Titntin I am in that camp but I hold faith that modern audience tropes aside, the fact it is Playground Games should hold well for the gameplay side of things.
@Banjo- The graphics do look great. And I am not dissapointed myself yet just worried.
Game has been ages in development and still no gameplay is a concern for me.
I really want to be proved wrong on it, its one of my favourite franchises. Its reasonable to expect a reboot after Fable 3 just hope it goes in the right direction.
As for Richard Ayoade Im not sure his involvement extends beyond being in the trailer but if it does yep he will probably be the narrator guiding the player through the timeline.
I just hope the staples stay and get expanded like jobs and property buying. After I lost the time needed to play things like the sims properly this was my go to.
@Banjo- whatever floats your boat. I have plenty of negative views on The Last of Us 2 for example. But this isnt the right thread for it.
I deleted my comment as it was going way off topic. Unfortunately no PM option for you to air the problem you have got with me.
I will repeat the end of my comment to end it. You do you and I will do me but comment histories are there and for those with multiple accounts also shows any posts from old usernames. I do have one old account but again nothing there to stack it up. Maybe you have the wrong person?
I can only go by me. I am over 60 and seen all of it including the old Amiga/Spectrum arguments. Console wars give me a headache want no part of it.
Staying on topic my concern with this as a long time Fable fan is it losing its charm for the sake of modernisation. I hope I end up being wrong.
@FenIsMightier for me it just didnt show enough. Richard Ayaode added a bit of grandiose to it but after the time in development was just hoping to see some gameplay.
@Banjo- do you really want to have a tit for tat battle here?
Own all 3 have done for years I love Fable followed since Project Ego. Molyneux's ambiton always outweighed the tech available sadly but well intentioned. I just worry about the direction it might be taking here but happy to be proved wrong.
If you can prove in my comment history I am a Sony "fan" as you put it I will happily clarify otherwise its a bit of an attack on me that and that is sad.
Your comment history tells me you come out swinging on anything negative with Xbox thinking anyone posting it is a Sony fanboy that needs putting back in their box, fair play there is a few of them on here but trust me that aint me. I just like to game.
@torne agree with you here. Its a short trailer but the biggest takeaway is it may have moved from the classic tongue in cheek humour to cheesy nonsense.
@antstephenson I don't do or care for culture wars do my head in, I get your point so I have edited my comment to remove the term that would maybe trigger a few people but my point still stands.
More often than not "redeveloped for the moden era and/or modern audiences" often removes the "culture" or "environment" of the original games or the franchise to avoid causing unneccessary offence.
Look at what happened with Saints Row. I really hope it does not happen with this.
Its the bit at the end of the showcase that worried me with Phil "we showcased Fable redeveloped for the modern era while staying true to the british style" Redeveloped for the modern area screams to me "We started it then went back to the drawing board to make sure we can make it 21st century friendly enough"
I honestly hope I am proved wrong and if I am I will come back to this thread and say I am full of rubbish.
Its kinda sad any article that comes out about this and any reference to Sony fans reaction is measured by the comment threads on one site that on the whole contains such a miniscule portion of the wider playstation fanbase. Similar on that site referencing the community here just as bad over there. Its a little bit toxic.
Anyway old fuddy duddy moaning aside. Its a common thing big corps trying to get politicians on side but they normally use lobbying firms to do it!
I look at the article then the comments and I swear blind Sony live rent free in some peoples heads on here. Im just glad to see another good looking Japanese game coming to Xbox.
The CMA pretty much dismissed Sonys concerns altogether and focussed on cloud gaming in their ruling. Whatever Sony say now be it nonsense they are pegging or otherwise isnt really relevant to it anymore as they arent involved much in that space (yet).
I imagine MS appeal will centre on data around the cloud market and not Sony talking fantasy land during an internal meeting.
If the boot was on the other foot MS would be saying the exact same thing. Its all big corp posturing and a load of drama. Be glad when its over.
Industry is in an exciting place so much quality coming from indie devs, crossovers into TV and Film that are actually entertaining but this saga gets way more coverage.
Call me an old fuddy duddy but the drama is getting stale really quick. Be glad when its all over.
@UltimateOtaku91 agree the source is questionable. But given the trend with Deathloop and Ghostwhire. You cant deny there may be some element of truth to it. Why go for those and not the biggie?
One day we can all go back to just enjoying games without worrying about enjoyment being impacted by megacorp tit for tat... maybe.
Be glad when its all over, I think it will go through regardless the drama leading up to it just puts both companies in a bad light. Both are handling the whole thing pretty badly.
Microsoft: "We care about all gamers enjoying games regardless of what platform" - buys one of the biggest companies up. Its hilarious and perhaps understandable the only drama is around CoD when in reality there are so many massive franchises that will go exclusive. Crash, Spyro, Tony Hawk, Diablo to name a few.
Sony: "We think this will be bad for gaming" - moneyhats Square and god knows who else to keep games away from other platforms.
Both companies being hypocrits and hiding behind CoD to do it as its mass appeal will detract anyone and everyone from the real underlying issue.
The sad thing about this whole drama is whether this acquisition goes through or not its bringing out all the fanboys from both sides and turning it into dated console war nonsense.
Game Pass has been awesome for offering exposure to some fantastic indie games that the devs wouldnt have otherwise gained from going down the normal route.
Can agree though it needs to be value for money and avoid any kind of "shovelware" type scenario and have access to big games. Would argue all of Microsofts first party being on there day and date covers that though?
@Tharsman same license holder but Microsoft havent (or at least not publically) bought any rights to the Indy IP for use so may still be Disney's call at this point.
Dont get me wrong this is completely relevant and needs to be an article. I too am curious by the third title.
But to put my input in, maybe its my age but I keep thinking the drama over this is getting so old. Capitalism has taken over gaming far too much so much so I think the enjoyment of just gaming gets forgotten. Lol.
As for my theory on the third title. Mine is one not mentioned, the idea of being enjoyed by single players or small groups is telling as this lacked a massive multiplayer community, I would guess the next Wolfenstein as the third title.
I can envisage a lot of Switch owners who wanted a next gen machine alongside it having gone for the S at its friendly price point too, really smart move going with the two models that.
So much drama. We all know it will go through. Sony will have to accept an offer, stop whining and we can all go back to gaming and enjoying ourselves.
All a bit much of a muchness the big corp posturing. If the boot was on the other foot and Sony acquired EA (would never happen but hypothetical) MS would panic and moan the same way about Fifa.

@Jenkinss appreciate all the info given that you are working too! A lot of rubbish going around on twitter hard to siphen what is true and what isn't.
