343 Industries has got a lot of exciting things planned for Halo Infinite's release this November, but one of the features that definitely won't be present at launch is the ability to dual wield weapons, as revealed in a new Q&A.
Here's what lead sandbox designer Quinn DelHoyo had to say about this in the video:
"That's not on the cards right now. Whenever you set out to make a game at the size of Halo Infinite, there are just so many things you can do... but we can't do everything. We wanted to really focus down on the weapons, the gunplay, the grenades, melee, and where we wanted to put that bet this time was on bringing equipment back."
Dual-wielding hasn't actually been a part of the Halo franchise for some time now, skipping Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians almost entirely, despite being a significant part of Halo 2 and Halo 3's gameplay.
And ultimately, DelHoyo doubled down on his comments by admitting the focus is elsewhere for now:
"Right now, dual-wielding isn't necessarily there, but that's because we're trying to focus on all the other things that we're working on. Focus on what we have."
The full 40+ minute Q&A features various members of the 343 Industries development team responding to questions asked by fans on Twitter. It's a great watch if you're looking forward to Halo Infinite - check it out above!

Dual wielding Needler’s in Halo 2 along with overcharged shields was the most deadly combination one could do.
Boooo
Even more reason I need to win the lottery and learn to code so I can make my own Halo clone.
Kirito is not pleased...
I’m actually ok with this. Halo 1 didn’t have dual wield and is amazing. Plus I bet the grapple hook might have something to do with this.
I really dont care, i just want the game lol.
Not too fussed about this, but that could be because I didn’t really even play any halo until reach and halo 5 was the first halo I put any serious time into. So since I don’t have the nostalgia from 2 and 3, duel welding doesn’t seem like a must add feature to me.
It’s probably easier to balance weapons withot dual wield. I think that’s why Bungie scrapped it after 2 games.
Yeaaah, plenty of videos out there about how dual-wielding kinda breaks the weapons balance. I'm okay with this.
@Sammycrow After Halo 4 and 5, it's hard to imagine that 343i care that much about weapon balance, or any mechanic that messes with game balance.
I think the mechanic gets left out because, along side requiring a lot of work to balance properly, the basic two weapon system is just easier and more familiar to the more common audience.
@Sammycrow 343 has never cared about balance. Why start now?
Dual wielding weapons was awesome in Timesplitters. Feels out of place in Halo glad they are leaving it out.
Like others have said, it doesn't really matter to me. Obviously I remember it being a huge gameplay mechanic in 2 and 3, but I just care about this being as good as it needs to be rather than worrying about dual wielding.
Dual wielding hasn't been a thing in Halo since Reach so no big surprise there tbh
