Re: 'It Will Lead In Performance' - Xbox's Price Tag For Project Helix Could Be Pretty High

BacklogBrad

An xbox is already a great pairing with a gaming pc. I love playing an xbox game at my desk on the high end pc then picking up where i left off with the console on the couch in the living room or at the cabin.

This sounds like a dream device for me if it will flawlessy allow me to do that with steam, epic, gog as well.

Im guessing its under $1000 but would pay more for it.

Re: Talking Point: Will 'Project Helix' Be A Niche Device, Or An Xbox Console For The Masses?

BacklogBrad

Playstation and nintendo will still sell way more units but xbox isn't worried about that and shouldn't be.

I dont know what the threshold is to declare something a niche product or smashing success but I think this product will sell okay and be somewhere between those two extremes. Probably less than the Series x/s numbers while also expanding their pc footprint with all 1st and 3rd party xbox games available in the pc app and numerous OEM devices carrying the xbox logo.

Re: 'Is Xbox Ending?' - The Official Answer Is No, But A Recent Interview Clearly Caused Panic

BacklogBrad

Microsoft doesn't have a history of bringing someone in to slowly sunset a product. They would just cut it and move on. They would not be talking about next generations, or the future as much as they have if the plan is to phase it out.

People have been predicting the end of xbox since the red ring days. It will still be nothing but a baseless prediction 10 years from now.

Re: Talking Point: You're The New Head Of Xbox, What Do You Do Now?

I would stay away from social media and leave that to the official xbox social media team. I would give less podcast and media interviews than Phil. All that did was open up the door for the "read between the lines" conspiracy guys. It also led to a lot of "Phil lied" BS when they quote him from an interview 5+ years ago when the business model and industry was different.

Re: Xbox Boss Explains Her Gamertag Activity, Says 'Faking Would Be A Terrible Idea'

@InterceptorAlpha what does the size of the install base of those companies have to do with the way their executives engage with online discourse? That is quite the misdirect. Nintendo and Sony executives would flat out ignore comments accusing them of using AI for posts, not being a real "gamer," etc. Xbox chooses to be this engaged with fan discourse and it leads to these crazy storylines. It can be a good thing to listen this much but it also comes with this kind of stupidity.

Personally, I would rather she just ignored a lot of this stuff that seems to be engagement farming from bots and "influencers."

Re: Xbox Boss Explains Her Gamertag Activity, Says 'Faking Would Be A Terrible Idea'

@InterceptorAlpha there is a huge contrast in the transparency of xbox versus nintendo/playstation. I think those companies realized there is no reasoning with online hate campaigns so dont bother responding.

This is what makes the story so ridiculous, how many trophies have any of the current or past Playstation bosses unlocked? No one knows or cares, probably zero. How often do they respond to twitter questions from fans? Never. But xbox goes for full transparency and they get caught up in these fake "AI is writing her posts" or "she is only there to sunset xbox" type of stories.

@DennisReynolds

I am well aware they offered it to MS and they still went on to make a deal with xbox for Blade. What does that have to do with future exclusivity of marvel games?

And why didnt sony have that protection baked into their deal with MLB? Its very unlikely there is anything in their current deal that states Sony and not Disney has the right to decide where the game goes. I think Disney could easily say make it multiplat or never make another marvel game again and it would be in a green case in stores in no time.

But it won't matter for much longer as they will also be playable on the next xbox regardless.

Re: Phil Spencer Announces That He's Retiring From Xbox

BacklogBrad

@DennisReynolds because like mlb, square enix and a long list of others realized, money is left on the table by being exclusive. Limiting a huge IP like marvel to one player base will never be the best outcome for Disney. You have to wonder how long they let playstation have the license as an exclusive.

Re: Phil Spencer Announces That He's Retiring From Xbox

I would love to see Phil's retirement gig to be head or chairman of a smaller studio or publisher. He has more passion for gaming than most leaders in the industry and he genuinely understands what it takes to succeed. It would be nice to see him work in a less corporate/shareholder structure.

Re: New Xbox Boss Makes Official Statement As She Takes Over From Phil Spencer

BacklogBrad

@themightyant you are free to make that assumption but there isn't much for factual evidence to back it up.

Phil did have one of the longest reigns as CEO for any of the console brands histories. I dont find it surprising that he is leaving after so long at the healm. A public job like that must be pretty taxing. Judging by the comments of the other article, it sounds like folks are blaming him for everything but their family dog running away.

Re: Phil Spencer Announces That He's Retiring From Xbox

BacklogBrad

@DennisReynolds yes I do think god of war will be playable on xbox. It has been all but confirmed that the next xbox will be pc based.

Wolverine (and spiderman) actually have a decent chance of getting official xbox ports since Disney owns the rights and could do what MLB did and force an xbox version.

Re: Phil Spencer Announces That He's Retiring From Xbox

BacklogBrad

@DennisReynolds no I understand. It was sony that said the profit margins on their huge AAA games was so thin that they needed to look at other markets. They then sabotaged their reputation as one of the best single player game makers to produce a bunch of live service crap that were lucky if it saw release. Now pc is expected for every release and switch and xbox are in play for a growing number of other games from them.

Re: Phil Spencer Announces That He's Retiring From Xbox

BacklogBrad

@DennisReynolds I remember the main complaint with xbox has always been they didnt have any games. Now that they produce a ton of games (thanks to the very successful Phil Spencer), the complaint is that non xbox users get to purchase and play them.

Why is god of war on pc? Its almost like Sony wants more sales or something....weird.

Re: Phil Spencer Announces That He's Retiring From Xbox

BacklogBrad

@DennisReynolds oh no halo will sell more copies. Even more people get to experience the franchise. What a "failure"

You realize xbox had almost zero studios and relied almost entirely on 2nd and 3rd party games until Phil took over? Xbox is one of the best videogame publishers (if not the best) right now. Very few are competing with the AAA output of xbox studios right now. That could not be said at any point before Phil had his very successful reign as boss.
