We've got an Xbox debut 28 years in the making this week! The 1997 first-person shooter Blood, that only released on PC back in the '90s, has been remastered by Nightdive Studios and is heading to Xbox on December 4th, 2025.
If you haven't come across it before, Blood: Refreshed Supply (its new name) follows an undead gunslinger on a quest for revenge across 42 "pulse-pounding levels dripping with Lovecraftian atmosphere". The original version received pretty good reviews at the time, and has gone on to become a cult classic.
Here's an official description for the remastered version:
Things are about to get… bloody! Soak up 42 pulse-pounding levels dripping with Lovecraftian atmosphere as you battle your way through armies of sycophantic cultists, zombies, gargoyles, hell hounds, and other insatiable horrors, in your quest to defeat the loathsome Tchernobog.
Grab your Pitchfork and get ready to stab your way through 42 blood-soaked levels, while unlocking even more creative and effective implements of destruction along the way. Incinerate foes with weapons like the Flare Gun, Aerosol Can, and Napalm Launcher. Blast enemies straight to hell bundles of dynamite, shoot them full of holes with the Tommy Gun and Sawed-Off Shotgun, or tap into darker methods of annihilation with the game’s powerful Voodoo Doll and Life Leech offerings.
Nightdive Studios has technically remastered Blood once before in 2019 (called "Fresh Supply"), but that version was also exclusive to PC at the time. This new "Refreshed Supply" version adds a whole bunch of new features, and mostly importantly arrives on consoles!
Here's a list of enhancements for Blood: Refreshed Supply as documented on Steam:
- Rebuilt from the original source code.
- New Vault with dozens of playable cut-content levels, concept art, behind-the-scenes photos, and unused sprites.
- Remastered Cutscenes.
- Expanded options for improved enemy behavior, weather effects (a previously cut feature), and other enhancements.
- Bug fixes for the original levels.
- Includes new Marrow scenario (available at launch) and Death Wish scenario (planned future update)
- High-resolution support, including 4K monitors
- Unlocked framerates
- Customizable keyboard and controller gamepad support
- Extended modding support, including existing mods
- Rewritten netcode supporting up to 8 players
- Local split-screen and online co-op
- CD and MIDI music support
Exciting stuff, then! Blood: Refreshed Supply will be available on the Xbox Store from this Thursday, December 4th, but there's no pre-order period as far as we're aware. It appears the price will be somewhere around the £20 / $20 mark.
