To celebrate the Xbox 360's 20th birthday over the weekend, Mat Piscatella of the analysis group Circana has been sharing a look at the top 20 best-selling Xbox 360 games in the US up to October 2025.
Circana's data is based on both physical and digital sales of these games, although it's important to note that the digital data is only from "digital data sharing publishers in the Digital Leader Panel", meaning there may be some games that could have otherwise creeped into the top 20.
The list isn't too surprising, but the amount of Call of Duty in the lineup definitely stands out. COD takes the top three spots, with seven games from the series in the full top 20, while Halo, Gears of War and GTA also appear multiple times.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Halo 3
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Halo: Reach
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Halo 4
- Rock Band
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Call of Duty: World at War
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Minecraft
- Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock
- Battlefield 3
- Red Dead Redemption
- Gears of War
- Gears of War 3
What's particularly interesting about this list is how every game is playable in some form on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S aside from Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock. Many will still be racking up sales through backwards compatibility, especially in the case of Call of Duty which is regularly in the "Top Paid" Xbox charts.
Anyway, pretty much everything in the lineup is a stone-cold-classic, and there are so many other Xbox 360 classics that didn't make the cut as well, proving how incredible that generation of gaming truly was. What a console, eh?
