I dont care what people say, the xbox one was sweet, even at launch. I was still paying for cable/sat TV at the time and I loved having everything in the xbox.
And it was a reliable console which was a huge improvement over the 360 disaster.
Play Anywhere is one of my favorite features on xbox. They probably should have just ran with that as the slogan. It didnt help that they released the ad well before the idea came to fruition.
Pc gamepass and cloud streaming are great features too but they could have marketed the whole works better.
A future where your xbox library is available to you on a wide array of devices like console, pc, mobile, cloud, etc is a much better future than your library living and very much dying on a single device that will only be manufactured for a set number of years.
@Gemini53 depends on what foreseeable future means to you. A new game in the next 5-7 years is probably not happening but I bet they return to it before too long.
They are probably going to learn that horizon cant sustain interest with new releases every 3 years either. A new location with the exact same gameplay will eventually run out of favor with everyone but the most diehard fans. Fortunately, I am still looking forward to another title but I'm already trying to mentally prepare myself for the same old party bros and "isn't social media cool" vibes. If it wasnt for gamepass, I think I would be waiting for a deep discount on this one (and the last one) and racing games are one of my favorite genres.
Such a weird inclusion with ultimate. I imagine if you play fortnite enough to want the membership bonus then you probably arent taking advantage of the 400 other games on gamepass. I selfishly would rather see this dropped from ultimate and save a couple bucks.
I would be shocked if there was just one single device. I suspect at the very least there will be 3rd party devices carrying the official xbox logo. There will most likely be options. I wouldn't mind a steam deck approach of 3 different tiers of the same device.
Moneyhatting 3rd party games just got way more expensive for playstation. Paying to keep games off xbox will now require developers to skip xbox and all pc storefronts. That's a tall order for any publisher. Even in a timed capacity, that will sting.
Steam alone has roughly 146,000 games on its store. Compare that to the roughly 14,000 on ps4/ps5 or 15,000 on switch 1/2 and there is a clear advantage to this xbox console in playable games.
An xbox is already a great pairing with a gaming pc. I love playing an xbox game at my desk on the high end pc then picking up where i left off with the console on the couch in the living room or at the cabin.
This sounds like a dream device for me if it will flawlessy allow me to do that with steam, epic, gog as well.
Im guessing its under $1000 but would pay more for it.
Playstation and nintendo will still sell way more units but xbox isn't worried about that and shouldn't be.
I dont know what the threshold is to declare something a niche product or smashing success but I think this product will sell okay and be somewhere between those two extremes. Probably less than the Series x/s numbers while also expanding their pc footprint with all 1st and 3rd party xbox games available in the pc app and numerous OEM devices carrying the xbox logo.
I am excited for this next console. This will have access to a ridiculous amount of games. I imagine it will be emulation friendly as well.
I look forward to the ludicrous name they come up with for this machine but the all-in-one vision for the Xbox One seems to have finally been realized.
The sequel is strange to me. I liked all the quality of life changes they made but somewhere the magic was lost. I still prefer the first one even though the changes brought to the sequel all seem like positives to me.
I don't see there being any major changes to the strategy. Play anywhere, multiplat, gamepass will still be a major focus. Hardware is not going anywhere and is still a major focus, no matter how many times the false rumors crop up.
I predict over 90% of xbox users will have no idea that there was even a change in leadership.
It would be interesting to see how much they paid for this one (if it is actually cyberpunk being teased). It is a massive game but a fairly old one. I doubt cdpr would be demanding top dollar for a gamepass deal at this point. If both parties felt the price was right then really no one losses.
They should put master chief collection and infinite on ps5/switch and scrap the campaign remaster all together.
Without multiplayer this remaster is a bad decision. Especially when the main purpose of the title is introducing a new audience to Halo. They will be forming their first impression without a key element to the franchise.
Microsoft doesn't have a history of bringing someone in to slowly sunset a product. They would just cut it and move on. They would not be talking about next generations, or the future as much as they have if the plan is to phase it out.
People have been predicting the end of xbox since the red ring days. It will still be nothing but a baseless prediction 10 years from now.
Amazon Luna is actually a decent little service. With just your base prime membership, you can play Alan Wake 1&2, Hogwarts Legacy, Kingdom Come Deliverence 2, a bunch of tomb raider games. Also a few xbox owned games (a bunch of bethesda games).
The games would tank as exclusives to xbox consoles. They tried that strategy and people did not flock to the console. Do people want even more layoffs/studio closures? Because that would be the result of exclusives. Less devs, less studios, less games for us.
Multiplatform is a good thing for xbox and its fans.
I would stay away from social media and leave that to the official xbox social media team. I would give less podcast and media interviews than Phil. All that did was open up the door for the "read between the lines" conspiracy guys. It also led to a lot of "Phil lied" BS when they quote him from an interview 5+ years ago when the business model and industry was different.
@InterceptorAlpha what does the size of the install base of those companies have to do with the way their executives engage with online discourse? That is quite the misdirect. Nintendo and Sony executives would flat out ignore comments accusing them of using AI for posts, not being a real "gamer," etc. Xbox chooses to be this engaged with fan discourse and it leads to these crazy storylines. It can be a good thing to listen this much but it also comes with this kind of stupidity.
Personally, I would rather she just ignored a lot of this stuff that seems to be engagement farming from bots and "influencers."
@InterceptorAlpha there is a huge contrast in the transparency of xbox versus nintendo/playstation. I think those companies realized there is no reasoning with online hate campaigns so dont bother responding.
This is what makes the story so ridiculous, how many trophies have any of the current or past Playstation bosses unlocked? No one knows or cares, probably zero. How often do they respond to twitter questions from fans? Never. But xbox goes for full transparency and they get caught up in these fake "AI is writing her posts" or "she is only there to sunset xbox" type of stories.
@ozkrmz sounds like it is still going to be a pc to me.
"As xbox expands across pc, mobile, and cloud xbox should feel seamless....we will break down barriers so developers can build once and reach players everywhere"
There won't be an xbox version and a pc version of games. Just the one pc version.
Nothing would sink a game faster than being exclusive to the xbox series X/S. We saw them try this route and it failed to move consoles. Not moving consoles and not selling copies of games is much more likely to sink xbox than a multiplatform approach. Mulitplat/play anywhere/this is an xbox are all here to stay.
Instead of focusing on the dirty word (AI), I would focus on how she successfully led a company in one of the most rapidly evolving, volatile new technologies in decades.
It sounds like she is very qualified to run a strongly established company like xbox.
Avatar was an overlooked gem. That game is fun. It reminds me of a newer, bigger, better Far Cry Primal. The map seems impossibly huge until you get an ikran (dragon thingy) so dont feel overwhelmed early on.
Im looking forward to diving into high on life 2 but might knock out keeper before that.
I am well aware they offered it to MS and they still went on to make a deal with xbox for Blade. What does that have to do with future exclusivity of marvel games?
And why didnt sony have that protection baked into their deal with MLB? Its very unlikely there is anything in their current deal that states Sony and not Disney has the right to decide where the game goes. I think Disney could easily say make it multiplat or never make another marvel game again and it would be in a green case in stores in no time.
But it won't matter for much longer as they will also be playable on the next xbox regardless.
@themightyant I dont see the correlation between a products anniversary and an employee's retirement date.
There are plenty of possibilities for Sarah Bond to leave at the same time. I mean its likely that internally, they knew Phil was retiring months ago. That is plenty of time to decide to move on instead of be number 2 for a new boss.
@DennisReynolds because like mlb, square enix and a long list of others realized, money is left on the table by being exclusive. Limiting a huge IP like marvel to one player base will never be the best outcome for Disney. You have to wonder how long they let playstation have the license as an exclusive.

I probably won't use it very often but it seems kind of neat. I see some potential in this.

Personal Xbox Computing Device, PXC.
Xbox One would have worked better here. They sound closer to the all-in-one box dream than ever before.
Re: Data Firm Predicts PC Revenue Will Soon Surpass Console As Xbox Prepares To Bridge The Gap
Im currently spending more on pc games than console games. That will only increase when my second favorite platform, xbox, becomes a pc hybrid.
I am still curious how gamepass and the online fee are shaken up when the next xbox comes.
