Talking Point: Four Years On, Did Halo Infinite Ever Live Up To Expectations?

Xbox has reminded us that Halo Infinite launched four years ago today (the full campaign version anyway), so we want to check in with the Pure Xbox community on your feelings about this particular series entry almost half a decade later, especially with the game's major updates now wrapping up.

The road to Halo Infinite was a long and winding one back in the late Xbox One, early Series X|S days; we still have nightmares about that 2020 gameplay reveal. Still, after a years' delay we got a much more polished title - and ultimately, we were very happy with the game that launched in December 2021.

The multiplayer side of things did feel a little more barebones back then, mind you, but 343 (now Halo Studios) did a pretty good job with supporting Infinite's online suite. The game never seemed to catch fire in the wider gaming world despite years of updates, but as Halo fans we were happy with the amount of support that Infinite ultimately got.

Of course, the name 'Infinite' suggests that Microsoft once had grander plans for this Halo title to potentially live on for much longer, but times change, and so does the gaming landscape. Xbox is now on the verge of essentially rebooting the Halo series and bringing it to PS5, so it stands to reason that Infinite's time is ultimately up. We had a pretty good experience with it over the last four years nonetheless.

We're not entirely sure whether the game lived up to our expectations, to be honest. If pushed we'd probably say that it just fell short given that we hoped Infinite would propel Halo back into the mainstream - but alas, it's still a great game that we've enjoyed for most of the generation. But how about you? Did Halo Infinite live up to your expectations over the last four years?
