Black Ops 7 Sales & Players Down Massively On Last Year's Call Of Duty, New Data Shows

GamesIndustry.biz has shared some new data from Alinea Analytics and Video Game Insights to show that Black Ops 7 is hugely underperforming Black Ops 6 right now, especially on Steam.

According to data from Alinea Analytics, "Black Ops 7 sold 401,000 copies on Steam 26 days after launch, compared to Black Ops 6 selling 2.3 million units during the same period last year". This doesn't count PC Game Pass data of course, but it still shows a stark drop off from last year, a year where Black Ops 6 was also in the Game Pass library.

Data firm Video Game Insights goes even further back than last year to try and display the decline, showing that not only did Black Ops 7 underperform the three previous COD games "by a wide margin", but its concurrent Steam player count was "80% lower" than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II from 2022. Bringing in "estimates" for console too, the firm reckons that Black Ops 7 had about half of the overall players than Black Ops 6 during the month after launch.

Although this data isn't confirmed by the folks over at Xbox and Activision of course, it does go hand-in-hand with a recent statement from the team that basically apologised for the state of Call of Duty amidst the series' launch of Black Ops 7. It seems that yes, despite Call of Duty remaining the number one franchise on Xbox Game Pass, Black Ops 7 specifically isn't doing so hot compared to previous entries in the series.
