Re: The Xbox Series X Will Feature A Revamped Dashboard

ThanosReXXX

@ralphdibny All kidding aside, though: would be nice to have themes back, and then to the extent where we can modify our user interface to our own liking, including something resembling Xbox Blades, which to this day is STILL the most easy on the eye, and the most user-friendly Xbox interface.

I positively HATE all the Windows 8 and 10 lookalikes that we have now.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Xbox Classics Would You Remaster? (#4)

ThanosReXXX

Aaaandd roughly a half hour later, it's all of a sudden a crushing 18-71-12 win for Knights of the Old Republic.

Yeah, right.

I'm so sick and tired of that dead horse always having to win...
It's a niche game, and really not all that special, far as I'm concerned. And it being a good Star Wars game is actually a rather low bar, because there are only a handful of good ones to begin with...

And so nice that all of these supposed voters actually also take the time to add a comment. At this rate, with so few comments on most articles, PureXbox will be disappearing AGAIN in the near future...

@SuperKMx Couldn't agree more. Bring it on.

Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The May 2020 Inside Xbox Show?

ThanosReXXX

I gave it a C. Not a solid one, mind you...

But still, some cool things were shown, so that was nice, so even though I don't see it as an above average showing, it was still a positive experience for the most part.

On a side note: I see quite a few people making the mistake of thinking that gameplay was promised for more or all titles. This was NOT the case. The only "promised" gameplay was for the new Assassin's Creed game.

And there definitely was gameplay of the other games: Bright Memory: Infinite, DIRT 5, Chorus, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, Call of the Sea, The Ascent, The Medium, Scarlet Nexus, Second Extinction and Yakuza: Like a Dragon all showed gameplay segments, so either people aren't able to tell the difference between cut scenes and gameplay, or people are grossly exaggerating...

Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Creative Director Comments On Gameplay Trailer Backlash

ThanosReXXX

Yeah, after that initial, boring as f*** 8 hour long "watching paint dry" live stream reveal of the game itself, they definitely set themselves up for backlash by explicitly mentioning "don't worry, there'll be exclusive gameplay footage in the Inside Xbox presentation next week", and then when we finally get to that, they all of a sudden backpedal to say that it's actually only in-game trailer footage.

It may not warrant excessive anger, but most definitely huge disappointment. What with there being no E3 next month, they had better come out guns blazing, and show us something that is going to completely blow our socks off, and this just wasn't it.

Re: 60 FPS Will Be The Standard Output On Xbox Series X, Says Aaron Greenberg

ThanosReXXX

@FraserG For fast moving games, such as sports, racing and fighting games, I absolutely, 100% agree with you, but with slow moving games, such as RPG's, RTS, turn-based games and so on, you really don't need anything higher than 30fps. Of course, people can have personal preferences, but technically, and thus factually, it is definitely not needed.

Re: The Forza Motorsport Series Began 15 Years Ago Today

ThanosReXXX

@FraserG I think you might want to add that the "second" game was actually a re-imagining of the first game, with improved graphics and some other extras, so basically, it was just Forza Motorsport Deluxe Edition. Kinda like what they did with the Burnout series as well.

Re: Ori Developer Moon Studios Teases Its Next Game Is About Humans

ThanosReXXX

@gingataisen Implying that I'm a glass half-empty person, which couldn't be further from the truth...

I do have to repeat that I've already said that I'm NOT saying that they can't, I'm just more cautious with my expectations, so trusting them for the full 100 percent is just not realistic in my view.

There's a saying in my line of work (sales & marketing): trust is good, control is better, meaning what I've been saying all along. Just because they did good so far, there's absolutely no guarantee that they're going to pull off something new equally well. That's just a fact of life.

It's perfectly fine to be cautious with expectations. Setting them too high or too positive might get you disappointed in the end. I'm more than willing to have them pleasantly surprise me, and I'm hoping they do, but until then, I'm not going to be overly enthusiastic.

Anyway, at the end of the day, it's just opinions, and ours differ, which is perfectly fine, long as we can still have a civil conversation about it, which I think we've succeeded in doing.

And besides: a world where everybody always agrees would be infinitely boring...

Re: Ori Developer Moon Studios Teases Its Next Game Is About Humans

ThanosReXXX

@gingataisen On the contrary: my mind is quite open. Already trusting them with no proof that they can is actually the "already made my mind up" option, so you've got it backwards...

An RPG, especially one that is supposedly going to offer some genre-changing, revolutionary features is quite a bit more complicated and/or bigger than a side scrolling platformer, no matter how good it is, so even though I'm not saying that they can't do it, there's still plenty of reasons to at the very least have some healthy skepticism about it.

And I say this as a fan of the Ori games myself, because I simply LOVE these games. They have great stories, and they look pretty damn good as well. Also loving the sound and music.

It's pretty simple, though: just because you can build a fancy looking apartment or studio, doesn't mean you can also design a castle, or perhaps I should say an amusement park, to signify how different one is to the other.

That's why I said "let them prove it first". It sounds good, and interesting as well, but it's such a totally different genre that they're now going to try and tackle, and on top of switching to a completely different type of game, they're also trying to do something completely new with it.

So, the logical thing to do is to take a wait and see approach, which is still VERY much open-minded. And a lot more realistic than "I'm certain they can do it, because their other two games in a completely different genre were also good"...

It's not like I'm already dismissing them. If that's what you got from my previous comments, then you've completely misinterpreted me.

As they say: "the proof is in the pudding", which in this case is the RPG game itself, so as long as there's no footage or gameplay to be seen, it's all but impossible to judge if it will be good or not. And judging them on past performances is never a good practice. You're only as good as your next race...

Anyway, no offense meant, but I am hoping that you're now finally getting the point I've been making all along, seeing as otherwise, it's pretty useless to continue, because I'd just be repeating all the points that I've made so far.

Re: Ori Developer Moon Studios Teases Its Next Game Is About Humans

ThanosReXXX

@gingataisen Impossible to classify maybe, but quite a small game, so not all too hard to deliver on a promise. Games where people were promised to be completely free to create their own world or become god, without ANY boundaries (such as promised by Peter Molyneux) have literally NEVER been realized up til now.

Every open world game in existence has at some point been broken by skilled players, who managed to find, and break through their limits. The GTA games come to mind as the most obvious example of that.

All the games you mentioned have limits or borders of some kind. You can argue all you want, but my point stands, and it is valid.

Let them first make this supposedly revolutionary game, and THEN we'll see if they made good on their promise. Just because they made a couple of pretty good side scrolling adventures, doesn't mean they can successfully create some completely new kind of RPG that's going to revolutionize that genre, so we're not just going to trust them because of results of the past.

Re: Ori Developer Moon Studios Teases Its Next Game Is About Humans

ThanosReXXX

@gingataisen I'm not saying they're the same as Molyneux, I'm just getting that vibe of "we want to do something spectacular, never before seen in this specific genre".

There's simply never been a game EVER, at least not so far, that has completely delivered on such a promise, and especially since they're a rather small company, that's a BIG promise to make, so some skepticism is definitely warranted, whether they've already made two good games or not.

Re: Ori Developer Moon Studios Teases Its Next Game Is About Humans

ThanosReXXX

I'm always skeptical when I read or hear developers say things such as wanting to push a game genre far beyond what players have experienced so far. Innovation in and of itself is obviously never a bad thing, but statements like that give me a definite Peter Molyneux vibe, and that is NOT a good thing, because he practically never delivered on his overzealous promises...

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Xbox Classics Would You Remaster? (#3)

ThanosReXXX

My vote goes to Left 4 Dead, even though I'm more of a classic zombie fan, and usually can't stand these newer, more versatile, and unrealistically mobile zombies, but because of the great gameplay, that game is the only one with these not-really-zombies-at-all that I can not only stomach, but actually enjoy, so yeah...

Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Revealed To Run At 4K On Xbox Series X

ThanosReXXX

@GamingFan4Lyf Even on a Full HD TV, 4K footage will still make a game look better than 1080p video, so it's still worth it. If you have a good TV, the data will be down-converted to 1080p in the right way, and it'll offer a better picture than "regular" aka native 1080p.

And of course, there's also added graphical effects and so on, such as HDR and dynamic ray tracing, both of which will also still add more than enough, even when you haven't got a 4K TV yet.

Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla Revealed, Trailer On The Way

ThanosReXXX

@Incarna Yup, I did, and it was far more entertaining and lively, than seeing a painting being made on a live stream, no matter how impressive the person's skill is.

@BrilliantBill Don't get me wrong, it's definitely clear that this guy is skilled, but it was definitely out of place for a live stream reveal video, which was the point of my comment.

Re: Ubisoft Is Revealing The Setting For The Next Assassin's Creed Game Right Now

ThanosReXXX

Untitled
So, definitely looks like Age of the Vikings, then. Could be interesting,
but we'll see how it turns out.

EDIT:
This has to be one of the most boring, if not THE most boring live streams that I have ever tried to watch, though.
Like a game reveal at a snail's pace. Or maybe it's even too slow for snails...

And if the name is truly Assassin's Creed Valhalla, then I'm not liking it. They could have chosen many more names to refer to the Viking Age, Midgard, for example, seeing as it'll more than likely take place on Earth, and NOT in heaven.

Re: Video: Check Out The Launch Trailer For SnowRunner, Released Today

ThanosReXXX

I just love the SpinTires games. It's like being little and playing with toy cars all over again. VERY relaxing and entertaining, especially with all the "mudding" around and stuff...

Having said that, though, to this day, I still prefer the original SpinTires over any of the other parts in the series, mainly because of all the weird and cool Russian trucks and vehicles. I mean, just look at these babies:

I especially like the one shown around the 45 seconds mark...

And on PC, there's still the free beta/dev version in which you can mod and add maps and vehicles (which are all available on the same site that I linked to) all you want, which is also great. So if you have never tried any SpinTires game yet, and you want to know if it's something for you, then I'd say give that beta version a go and you'll know soon enough.

Re: Poll: How Much Confidence Do You Have In Xbox Right Now?

ThanosReXXX

Who the heck voted for PlayStation?

All kidding aside, though, I'm pretty confident. Phil Spencer is truly hitting all the right notes so far, so I like the tune he's singing to.

Of course, we still have to see if the console itself and especially all the new games will have enough hit potential...

Re: Former Sony Designer Suggests The Xbox Series X Is "A Beast" Compared To PS5

ThanosReXXX

So, much like I predicted, then. As with any entity or person in the lead in some area or field, they just can't sit on their laurels, being all smugly confident about their first place position. You NEED to keep working and improving, in order to make sure that you also STAY at that number one position. It isn't just a given with a new iteration of your product or service.

Phil Spencer took note of that and has taken maximum advantage of it, and took it quite a bit further. I think it's safe to say that aside from the software, which we still know very little about, Microsoft is already in a FAR better position than Sony.

@ShaiHulud That's probably more than likely just fans, not developers or designers. Even on objective/mainstream media, I haven't read a single article about PS5 being the superior console, so other than a slightly faster SSD and some audio gimmickery, there really isn't much that the PS5 specs have in favor of them, in direct comparison.

Of course, a large part of it is also about the games, but I honestly can't imagine what with all the stuff that Phil Spencer has done right so far, that he's going to drop the ball on that single point.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Halo Game Released To Date?

ThanosReXXX

I have nostalgic feelings for 1 and 2, because one set the standard for console shooters, and 2 was such a memorable improvement in more ways than one, but if I set those feelings of nostalgia aside, then it would have to be Halo 3, because that game brought even more, and then some.

Re: Microsoft Admits Mistake With April's Xbox Games With Gold Lineup

ThanosReXXX

@CloudLXXXV As mentioned by the other user, Blinx is indeed backwards compatible, as is the second Blinx game. An easy way to check if games are backwards compatible, is to go to the Xbox Marketplace on your console and search for any specific title.

If the title can be found, then it is compatible. Non-compatible titles are not included in the digital store. (meaning I'm still waiting for Microsoft to add Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel Without a Pulse, which was compatible on Xbox 360, but not on Xbox One)

Re: Random: Halo Fan Asks Master Chief If Pineapple Belongs On Pizza

ThanosReXXX

The Chief is absolutely right. There's actually a LOT of things that officially shouldn't happen or be available on a pizza, but as long as you personally like it, there's nothing wrong with it, seeing as you're the one that has to eat it, so what anyone else thinks about it is completely irrelevant. And if all the various pizza places put these pizzas on the menu, then apparently, there's a market for it, which should already tell you enough.

Telling people what they can or cannot have on their pizza because it's "heresy" is just as stupid as telling people what they should or should not be putting on their sandwich. Who the hell cares?

Let people eat what they want to eat. And if you don't like it, don't watch...

And for the record: there's nothing like a pepperoni pizza with pineapple. As long as you use the right amount of all ingredients, it'll never turn into a soggy mess. And yes: it's delicious...

Re: Talking Point: What Was Your First Xbox Console And Game?

ThanosReXXX

My first Xbox was an Xbox 360. I never liked the black brick. I was still firmly in camp Nintendo back then, but I finally saw the light...

I was late to the party: I bought it in March 2008, along with a bunch of games, namely Call of Duty 2, Kameo, The Darkness, Perfect Dark Zero, Ninety-Nine Nights, Burnout Revenge and The Outfit, which regardless of the crude graphics, was and still is a VERY entertaining game.

And ever since then, I've amassed a pretty decent collection of well over 400 games in total, including 10 physical Xbox One games, 160 physical Xbox 360 games, 60 original Xbox games and the rest digital, through Games with Gold.

Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Xbox Dashboard Of All Time?

ThanosReXXX

@KelticDevil Luckily, I was a relatively late adopter, so I jumped in when the Xbox One S was already well and truly launched.

But yes, the current dashboard isn't too bad either, but for the Xbox 360, I'd still rather have the option to return to blades. It's just more epic and it just has something that all the other, largely Windows 8 and 10 inspired dashboards had.
