Get ready to say goodbye to 30 FPS. According to the GM of Xbox Game Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, the standard output of the Xbox Series X will be 60 FPS. He confirmed this on Twitter yesterday, prior to the Xbox Inside event.
As noted, the system architecture supports up to 120 FPS. While this is fantastic to hear, many fans are still seemingly wondering how Microsoft will ensure 60 FPS remains the standard moving forward.
Windows Central further notes how Microsoft won't necessarily stop a developer from creating a 30 FPS title but says it should be rare to non-existent in the future. In saying this, we can't help but think it's only a matter of time in the next generation system's life before more games start making technical compromises.
Are you glad to hear 60 FPS will be the standard next generation? Comment down below.

Good news indeed. I can already think of several franchises that could do with a bump up to 60fps!
I must be one of the few gamers that really doesn't care all that much about framerate. Obviously it's a problem when some games drop to 20/25 fps at times (looking at you Dark Souls and Bloodborne!) but for the most part I'm perfectly fine with 30fps and will even choose it over 60 if it gives me better resolution and graphical quality.
I don't play a great deal of first person shooters though which probably benefit most from the smoother gameplay.
There is quote from Jason Ronald's interview with Eurogamer.
"I wouldn't say it ends it, but now the creative control is in the developers' hands. Ultimately, we view resolution and framerate as a creative decision. Sometimes, from a pure gameplay aspect, 30 is the right creative decision they can make."
It is still decided by developers I think.
@roe nope, I'm perfectly fine with a solid 30fps.
This gen, I'm more than happy with 30fps at 1080p/4k than 60fps at 900p. Resolution is better than a higher framerate

Hell, maybe it's because a long time gamer but anything 720p/30fps or above and I'm set. I've actually been going back to last gen games a lot this year to finish up backlog, and jumping in to Switch games, and I've been having fun.
Speaking of Switch, I'm enjoying plenty of games on that system. You look at Alien Isolation with the great AA or any Nintendo game that just has a fantastic artstyle, and you don't worry about frames and resolution.
To me, frame rate is more important than resolution (especially for the likes of racing and sports games). But obviously others think differently. That's why having the option is so important - Codemasters says Dirt 5 will be running at 4K with 60fps, but with an optional 120fps mode. That's the sort of choice I'd like to see from Xbox Series X games.
@FraserG For fast moving games, such as sports, racing and fighting games, I absolutely, 100% agree with you, but with slow moving games, such as RPG's, RTS, turn-based games and so on, you really don't need anything higher than 30fps. Of course, people can have personal preferences, but technically, and thus factually, it is definitely not needed.

You were sayin' fellas? 😏
@FraserG
Hear, hear!
Never believe a sales man. It'll toss up between graphics and frame rate like it is now but with more power. So if a developer decided to push on the graphics front it could impact frame rate. It'll be hilarious when we see some next gen games not hitting a solid 60fps.
