Yup, as others have said, that "optimized for Series X" logo is WAY to big, so it's a real eyesore, but on the other hand, it's probably to make these new games more easily recognizable vs previous gen Xbox titles, so here's hoping it'll be phased out eventually.
I voted Xbox, simply because I'm not a Sony fan, and because of the discrepancy between the white of the logo bar and the color of the box, which is more in line on the Xbox box art, but as many others have said, that giant "optimized for Series X" logo is both super ugly and completely redundant.
Whoever came up with that should be drawn and quartered...
@Tharsman That's only true for Xbox One games. Any and all OG Xbox and Xbox 360 games are yours to keep forever, even after your subscription for Xbox Live Gold has expired.
Hell no, absolutely NOT. Microsoft ending Xbox Live Gold would be a total @sshat move.
GamePass is fine and dandy for those with either enough gaming time or no desire to own titles, so basically the people that also enjoy and use services like Netflix, but I enjoy my ACTUAL free games, that I can keep until I myself decide that I don't want to play or own them anymore, instead of being dependent on a service where games either get removed or swapped out for other games over time.
A feature, which might, looking at past instances, often times mean that I'd potentially lose games that I'd actually like to play and in return I'd get stuff that I'd never be even remotely interested in.
@FraserG Guess I'll skip all of them, then. I don't like forced or timed demo play, and I'm currently all wrapped up in things like Animal Crossing. And my gaming time is already limited as it is, so I'd rather play what I know and like, instead of having to force feed myself a lot of new stuff.
I much prefer the old type of demo: download, and play forever, or buy the full game, but at least it's your own decision. No BS timed events, no closed betas etc. etc.
@FraserG Only available for that week as in "only available for download in that week" or will they also not be playable anymore after that period? (besides the demos possibly being re-published at a later point in time)
I've never heard or seen anything about this game before, but I'm REALLY liking the look of this. It's definitely weird and one of the first things that came to mind was that this game is the answer to the question "What do you get when you put Kung Fu Panda, World of Warcraft, Monster Hunter and Pokémon in a blender?"
It started out looking like a slightly more gritty version of Kung Fu Panda, then we got the whole clan thing, then we got the whole fighting monsters thing, and finally, we got one monster looking even more crazy and inventive than the next one. And they're all very colorful as well.
I'm also REALLY liking the underwater bits. Until now, I've seen very few, if any games, get this right. The colors, the movement and the look as a whole of being submerged, having a slightly more fuzzy view, and seeing moveable elements on bodies, such as hair or fur, move like they're supposed to.
We'll see, Phil, we'll see...
I have a lot of confidence in Phil Spencer hitting the nail on the head, seeing as he's delivered on most of his promises, so I'm relatively confident that they WILL deliver the goods, but with last month's event in mind, I just can't help but be a little bit more cautious with my expectation level.
@FragRed Indeed. It appears to be a VERY rough draft of whatever it is. They shouldn't have revealed this as such, and then labeled it with such hyperbole, because the statement and the images don't line up at ALL.
Well, I've no idea what this is supposed to be, but if this is "an experience that would have been impossible without next-gen technology", then I'm thoroughly underwhelmed...
Well, that looks pretty crappy, to be honest. I'd rather have a reboot or sequel of the excellent Sega Soccer Slam, which is even better than the Mario games, in my opinion.
@FraserG Yeah, I suppose that could be an option. Although I figured smart delivery was more of a forward thinking thing, meaning that they run on all Xbox One's, but will automatically be upscaled and expanded upon on Series X, not so much about upgrading old games.
@mousieone I think that should be the other way around: Injustice is a couple of ports/reboots behind.
Yup, definitely. The internal drive should have been anything ranging from 2 - 4TB as a standard, but 1TB is actually just laughable, what with modern game sizes and 4K texture pack downloads.
If that would make the console 50 bucks more expensive, then so be it, but now we'll probably be spending far more on those proprietary external storage modules.
@pip_muzz You're welcome. I actually also thought it was French when I first got to know the comic, so it's an easy mistake to make. Not many people realize that Belgium is a country with several languages.
The PS5 looks like a game console put in a blender with a Dyson fan.
It's pretty damn ugly, and all the futuristic design shenanigans are superfluous and will only see to it that it'll be easier for dust to gather in all its nooks and crannies.
I don't like the look of the controller either. It reminds me of Wall-E the robot.
@GamingFan4Lyf My thoughts exactly. I have a very strong feeling that the difference for the end user will be completely negligible, even if some background data could be pushed even faster on one platform than the other already can.
The differences will probably be most notable in exclusive titles, but in cross-platform titles, not so much.
@JoakimZ Yeah, the Spongebob one was actually a smart relabeling with an actual, existing word, but as for the rest of them, with the completely lame, made up words: totally cringe-worthy, far as I'm concerned. I mean: "Deathinitive" and "Re-Mars-tered"? Absolutely horrible.
And I say that as a sales & marketing professional myself. As a team manager, I would have benched or fired the guy who came up with those...
This is wonderful news, if it actually happens. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a simply fantastic game, and it deserves to be played by more people, so far as I'm concerned, it should reach a far larger audience than it has had so far, and every action RPG fan should play or own this game, it's THAT good.
Sure, it has its niggles and shortcomings, but the story, the characters, the setting and the artwork are all great, and the combat system is interesting and feels really good.
EDIT:
On a side note, that's one absolutely HORRIBLE name for the game, "Re-reckoning", if that is actually what it's going to be called. It certainly sounds like it's the same guys that did the Darksiders remasters...
To me, this looks like a laughably bad attempt at enabling them to pat themselves on the back for being so "wonderfully" socially engaged... (shakes head)
Yeah... that's absolutely NEVER going to happen. I'll believe that, when I see it, which is going to be never...
@AtlanteanMan And what you are missing is that Microsoft and Sega have worked on hardware together before, namely on the Dreamcast. The entire OS and game development environment was based on a derivative of Windows 98, called Windows CE. And after them leaving the hardware business, many of the games who were supposed to either release on the Dreamcast or on its potential successor, became some of the first OG Xbox titles.
So, even though this rumor itself is highly unlikely, it isn't all that strange that Sega would work together with Microsoft.
I think that while digital is here to stay, obviously, but so is physical, for quite some time to come. If even console manufacturers themselves still make consoles with physical drives in them, that should already tell you enough. And Xbox especially, with their three generation-spanning backwards compatibility, will definitely keep that physical drive in their consoles for many, many years to come.
I for one sure wouldn't be surprised if what comes after Series X will also still have a physical drive. They've embarked upon this path now, and there's no going back, so they'll have to keep catering to it, and there's no other way to be able to play the old games that you already own, other than to allow you to install them to the new console, and for that, you'd definitely need a disc drive.
So yeah, if they didn't think it was worth the trouble, like if the part of the gaming community that still prefers physical, would be so small that it would be negligible, then they surely would have taken out the disc drive already, seeing as on the numbers of consoles that'll come rolling off of the conveyor belt, that's a LOT of money that they could have saved on manufacturing costs.
@pip_muzz I've seen some minor positives, and I've even bought some of their smaller games, such as Unraveled, albeit more to support the developer than EA, but their bigger games are still VERY online and loot-box/micro transaction focused, and that has to go, before I'll ever reconsider.
@pip_muzz Well, that's one thing I'll definitely never do: benefit of the doubt. The rule is: when in doubt, don't do it. And EA has already done SO many things SO wrong over the past decades, that we're already WAY past giving them any second chances.
Far as I'm concerned, they can go die in a hole. The games industry will be ten times the better for it, when we're rid of such idiotic and obnoxious publishers.
Erm, no. The fun will actually begin when EA loses the Star Wars license, so we can finally get some good and micro-transaction/loot box-free Star Wars games...
@carlos82 Well, that would be an option, if they would offer some kind of all-in-one emulator for both OG Xbox and Xbox 360, but so far, ALL backwards compatible games have come with their very own, customized/optimized version of an emulator, in a complete bundle, so it's kind of like a self-contained, virtual system.
I don't know if they changed that for this upcoming generation, but that is how it works on Xbox One, in order to make sure that the games work as perfectly as possible.
@StrangeBit That would definitely be a great addition. I've always found it strange at first, when games that were already backwards compatible on the Xbox 360 weren't simply also available on the Xbox One, but as mentioned above to the other user, that's unfortunately not as simple, because of how it works.
On the Xbox 360, it actually was just a single OG Xbox emulator for all backwards compatible games, but it did have its downsides here and there, because not all games worked perfectly, and ever since they moved on to Xbox One, they've simply chosen to go for more precise emulation, which requires custom tweaking for each individual game.
But having said that, I do happen to own all of the Dead or Alive games myself, so I'd definitely also like those to be added to the list, at some point in the not too distant future...
@Murray There used to be a voting system on the official Xbox forums (https://xboxideas.uservoice.com/), but it has been removed a year or two ago, probably due to the development trajectory of the new console and any internal discussions on whether or not they were going to continue to add to the backwards compatibility library.
Now that they have more or less said that they're going to continue after all, we might also see that specific forum page return.
@carlos82 I know, but the question was "what would you like to see", so...
Besides, I've still got the original, both on Xbox 360 (on which it luckily still IS backwards compatible) and PC, so I'll still be able to play it whenever I want to, regardless of any licensing issues they'd have nowadays...

I stopped at question three. I simply HATE getting low scores.

Re: Don't Expect An Xbox Series X Price Reveal In July
@FraserG Well, as they say: "No is No". I suppose the second no is just for emphasis...
Re: Don't Expect An Xbox Series X Price Reveal In July
So...
According to this poll, 46,4% said "No" and 53,6% said "No".
That's the weirdest kind of poll that I've ever seen.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These Xbox Games Are You Most Excited For?
Yup, definitely Cyberpunk, by several landslides.
It's basically the biggest next gen game so far, so it's kind of a no-brainer, even though I am a MASSIVE Star Wars fan.

@pip_muzz Close: it was a Belgian comic. Written in French, though...
