Back in February, former Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski indicated that he'd like to consult on the Gears franchise, informing Microsoft that his "offer still stands" via a Twitter post, and highlighting that a bunch of his and former Gears designer Lee Perry's ideas had previously been left sitting on the cutting room floor.
Now, Bleszinski has commented about potentially consulting on Gears again, noting that Microsoft and/or The Coalition has yet to contact him, and admitting they are now unlikely to do so:

Bleszinski was Design Director at Epic Games before leaving back in 2012, having spent two decades with the company. He led development on the first three Gears of War games on Xbox 360, but hasn't been involved with the franchise since his departure from Epic Games.
Do you think Cliff Bleszinski should act as a consultant on Gears 6? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Honestly, what could he possibly bring to the table? The franchise has been just fine in The Coalition's hands.
Nothing against the guy, I just don't see the ROI.
On the one hand, there are developers and artists that leave pursuing who knows what and then they wonder why they are no longer involved in the franchises that they have created. Too many to name just a few and some of them even complain. On the other hand, I would be open to work with those developers again if I want to but not because I feel forced.
@GamingFan4Lyf Considering all the ideas that he and his partner came up with over the years during the making of the first three games, and the possibly great amount of it having ended up unused for some reason or other, I'd say he'd be able to bring more than plenty to the table. And seeing as he's one of the founding fathers of the series, even more so.
Since this website frowns upon swearing (and rightfully so), I will just say that Microsoft should let this douche stay in “retirement”.
The Gears Of War franchise is doing just fine without him. Gears 5 showed that the franchise is starting to evolve a bit & hopefully Gears 6 (they need to go back to calling it Gears Of War. Not sure why that bugs me. Lol) will continue that trend.
Cliffy B’s arrogance & awful decisions led to him ruining Lawbreakers & running his own company into the ground. And his comments towards Xbox fans during that time was.......well, like I said.....no swearing here. But he can go take a long walk off a short cliff (pun intended).
@Grot
Exactly. There are “rockstar” game developers in the past who let money & fame turn them into complete douchebags. John Romero from iD is one of the most famous ones. Cliffy B is a perfect example of that.
His quote about Lawbreakers was he was going to “make another billion dollar franchise”. 😂
Oh and then he ripped Xbox gamers when they were questioning why it was a PS4 console exclusive, for some idiotic reason. Why would he rip the fans that made him rich & famous in the first place? Because he is an arrogant ?!$&.
Cliffy B just needs to go away for good. Just watching this guy in an interview (even in the 360 heyday) made me want to punch my screen.
Then he runs Boss Key Studios into the ground with his arrogance & stupid decisions, which effects all of the employees there.....etc.
And even though he is rich beyond what he would ever need because of his VR deal investment, it’s nice to see him squirm & basically beg to be relevant again.
@Grot
And, clearly, the Switch has suffered because Cliffy B didn’t put Lawbreakers on it. 😂 I mean it was going to be “a billion dollar franchise”. 🙄
Oh and let’s not forget about “Radical Heights”! Another Cliffy B idea that tried to cash in on the Fortnite/PUBG bandwagon. That lasted about 10 minutes.
@KelticDevil I completely agree with you. Especially on getting back to calling the series Gears of War. That also really bothers me lol. I've been playing Gears of War since the very beginning, and I think 4 and 5 are really great games. I'm happy it's moving past the dude bro thing, and getting into more mature story telling.
@Jslade
Well said!
I mean, I like Gears of War 1-3 better than 4 or 5 but the franchise is still chugging along nicely, it's not like Halo which I think has taken some big steps back under 343. Still has most of the old cast, good, likeable new characters, and the story keeps that 'dude bro' meathead humor that I enjoyed while taking the story is some interesting new directions. Not a fan of Bleszinski for many reasons, appreciate that he helped bring this series to the world but The Coalition has proven to know what it's doing without his input. Rod Fergusson (who doesn't get the credit Bleszinski does but was just as instrumental in the success of the original Gears of War trilogy) leaving to go work on the Diablo franchise concerns me but for now The Coalition deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Do they need to contact him? Gears 4 and 5 are awesome as it is. The Coalition know what they are doing.
