I'm still picking Xbox over the Switch for most game purchases, but for 1st party Nintendo games and games I'd prefer to play on mobile, that's where the Switch 2 will be used. Not a slight to Xbox at all, just a mobile companion. I usually travel with my Series S to play in hotels, but when I am not at a desk, the Switch 2 will be nice.
I stopped played Call of Duty many years ago when they started doing all their PS Exclusive crap. I'm looking forward to getting back in and giving COD another try! I'm especially excited that they're going back in time since one of my favorites was World at War!
The Series S is very portable, and this will be a welcomed addition! It's a pain visiting family and having to always ask them again for their Wifi password.
Has there been any mention at all of an idea of a timeline for dedicated server support on Xbox? Just want to know if they are close or if it will be months away yet?
@Jenkinss This is exactly what I'm waiting for, and exactly what we did in the past that was a blast! Love Valheim and am excited for the next update, but I can't wait for dedicated Xbox support so we can recreate the fun we had similar to Valheim!
@CutchuSlow This! I used to play on the Microsoft PC version, then I switched to the Steam version so I could easily use the Steam chat with my brother, but then the Xbox version came out and now I use the Microsoft PC version again, so my Cloud saves sync between PC and Xbox. I really wish they synced between Steam/Microsoft, but my guess is that Valheim would have to host their own cloud servers to do this, versus currently they are using Microsoft's and Steam's clouds which are included with those platforms. Hopefully Valheim is big enough someday that they would offer their own cloud servers and resolve this!
@CutchuSlow I looked at classic, but it changes a bunch of other things too. I like the general layout of all the buttons on Console settings, just minus the Trigger/Bumper choice. But thanks for the reply!
My biggest gripe is on the Console Controls Settings; I want to be able to make the LT my blocking and RT my attack, instead of LB for blocking and RB for attack. Other than that, I enjoy using a controller, even now on PC.
I'm loving Valheim on the Xbox! I've been playing it on my Series S and Xbox One X. Love playing it in 60FPS on the Series S.
I don't understand why, but it runs poorly on the Xbox One X. I understand the slow loading times because it doesn't have an SSD, but I don't understand why it struggles so much to even maintain 30 FPS. I feel like I'm playing on the original Xbox One when playing on my Xbox One X. I thought the Xbox One X had a better graphics card than the Series S?
I played Valheim quite a bit on the PC, and it took some getting used to with the controls on Xbox, but now I'm enjoying it just as much as on PC (at least on my Series S)!
@Dad I played for the first time last night, and I had the same issue with the landing gear! Sometimes I could deploy it and many times I couldn't! I started doing testing to see if something was locking out the landing gear, but it wasn't consistent, so I eventually figured it was a bug.
@mousieone I guess the article and the blurb from Microsoft seem to be talking about 2 different issues, in my opinion. The blurb from Microsoft seems to me to refer to the controller disconnect issues, but this article talks about button unresponsiveness. I'm not sure which it is that we are talking about here lol. I guess my only issue is with the controller disconnect issues.
The worst one for me was the other day while in the middle of an online match, my batteries died. No bid deal, just throw in some new ones... Well the controller would not resync to the system. It just sat there pulsing. Tried to re-sync with the Xbox, never found the Xbox. Tried pulling batteries on controller again several times and no change. Tried plugging in the controller directly to the system with a USB-C cable, still no response with the system. Had to pull the power on my Xbox Series S, and then after the power cycle, it finally reconnected wirelessly with no issues.
But what a pain in the butt! Unfortunately this seems to happen about once every 2 - 3 weeks, and it's not always from the batteries dying. Sometimes it's random, sometimes is shortly after starting a game, and sometimes it's from turning on the system, and the controller turns on the system but never responds after that.
Anyways, I hope they solve this soon. I've started trying to do a full Restart on my Series S about once a week to try to avoid this from happening.
@Pantheos I now edited my first comment to include more details. All together I should have said: "I never realized being online was a requirement when you have a Digital Only console like the Series S... when it is not set as your Home Console."
@NEStalgia I understand why they do it, but I wish there was some grace period.
I guess I just realized what I have to do is to put on a different account on my Xbox Series S and any games that are Free will have to be installed with that account which will be it's "Home Console." It won't help me for 95% of my games, but at least games that are free, like Rocket League, will at least be playable... Definitely a little ridiculous though.
I was pretty disappointed to learn the repercussions of having no Xbox Live with my Xbox Series S. I couldn't play anything on it. I have an Xbox One X as my "Home Console" and my Xbox Series S is my secondary console, even though I use the Series S primarily. But because of that, my Series S was useless for playing any games I owned or had installed through Game Pass. I'd think there should least be a period of time that these games should work in case of another outage?
I never realized being online was a requirement when you have a Digital Only console like the Series S.... (Edit: Or REQUIRED to be set as your Home Console.)
I couldn't even open up Rocket League...which is free...
Dang, I fall into this. I have the Series S and sometimes it will lose connection after a few minutes of using the console. Other times it will turn on the Series S, but lose connection immediately after that. A hard reboot is often the solution. Once in awhile pulling the batteries on the controller fixes it. Thankfully it only happens like once or twice a month on average.
@Blessed_Koz I've been recommending the Series X to everyone, but I'm completely happy with my Series S, and with my 3 TB external drive, I have no problem moving games around if I ever need room. But for everyone else's sake, I just recommend the Series X instead of explaining to them the ways around the lower storage on the Series S.
THE IMPROVED INPUT LATENCY!!! This has been huge for playing Rocket League for me. It's so much easier to do aerial shots and be accurate. I still find myself missing because I'm expecting a delay and then the action inputs too quickly.
My favorite feature has been the improvement in input latency! It's amazing how much better I play Rocket League coming from an Xbox One X to the new Xbox Series S. I can finally understand how people manage those cool aerial shots lol.
@GamingFan4Lyf They publicly post the changes in the Alpha builds on their Twitter, so I don't think there's anything against sharing as far as I'm aware.
You mean people haven't already been boycotting this game since they started the 30 day delays on maps for xbox? I guess I started boycotting this game too early then...
@InterceptorAlpha I thought I recall Phil Spencer suggesting that games for the Series S could be smaller with not needing the higher resolution texture packs. If both systems are downloading at the same file size, them I'm guessing all they chose to do was downscale the larger texture packs instead of including lower resolution ones. If that is the case, then hopefully next year they are more kind to us and save us some space.
Apple's decision not to allow it is a monetary decision, simple as that. Apple's last priority is the wants of their consumers, and their first priority is lining their pockets. Nothing wrong with wanting to make a profit, but Apple is excessive in how much profit they think they need to make, and it's at the expense of their consumers.
@Bobobiwan Well in Microsoft's defense, they are still giving you parties and such, but on the other hand, Rocket League is capable is doing those things all on their own, so I do think Rocket League should be free. Maybe if Epic changes it so it uses all their built-in features instead of parties and what not? On the other hand, it might cut down on toxic Xbox Players just creating random accounts to ruin the game? So I guess I'm impartial because I have Xbox Live Gold already and see it both ways.
It looks like it's a side view of it, which makes no sense. Why would he store it on it's face/back either blocking the power button or blocking the back ports? If that really is it, we really wouldn't know what we're looking at anyways because what good is a side view.
@Grot I didn't know about Tencent, but Googled it and I can see your point. I feel like it's inevitable though that if we want to enjoy some of the most popular games, we'll need to comply with having one. I already had one so I guess it doesn't matter to me anymore, but good to note.
@BlueOcean I think you meant to say "I expected this but that doesn't mean that this ISN'T AWESOME." (Implying that it really is awesome.) With what you originally said, you're saying that it isn't awesome because you expected it, when I'm guessing you meant that it is awesome, even though you were expecting it.
@MaccaMUFC I don't think limiting the world size would be something they would do. I think more along the lines of a shorter story mode in the beginning, or adding things like they've done in GTA Online, something like adding casinos and heists, and those types of things after release.
I much prefer the joystick placement of the Xbox One and Switch Pro Controllers. I don't understand what everyone's beef is with the Xbox One Controller giving you the flexibility to power your controller however you want. I have piles of rechargeable batteries at the ready that I can swap out whenever I want on my Xbox One Controllers. Much better than having to always remember to charge my built-in controllers.
I'm so glad that Microsoft has stuck to this mentality, it is all around better to have options. I don't own a PS4, but there's nothing worse than when I have to have my Nintendo Pro Controller tethered to the wall charging while trying to play a game because it died shortly after starting my game. I love being able to swap out my Xbox One controller batteries with either AA, rechargeable AA, or rechargeable battery packs, and never have to plug it in (but don't worry, if you want to be like those other companies that require you to plug it in if it dies during a gaming session, they even give you that option as well, haha).
I don't understand this article. It's like praising an iPhone for having a built in battery that makes your phone worthless in 2 years because it no longer holds a charge. What's so bad about putting a rechargeable battery pack in there yourself? And then getting the option to swap out that rechargeable pack after it stops holding a charge? And like everyone else says, swapping out AA's are so easy as well and Microsoft gives you the freedom to choose! I'd much rather swap out rechargeable AA's at anytime. THE FUTURE IS HAVING A CHOICE! Not being locked in to some arbitrary decision someone decided for you. And AA's are the most common battery. This article really upsets me because too many people think not having options is a good thing.
