You might remember a couple of weeks ago that Activision and Sony revealed an exclusive "Zombies Onslaught" mode coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on PlayStation, and now more "Sony Advantages" have been revealed, causing Xbox fans to throw criticism at the exclusive partnership once more.
This time, these are literal advantages such as bonus XP and extra loadout slots, and once again these benefits are exclusive to the PlayStation platform for an entire year until November 1, 2021.
- Battle Pass Bundle Bonus: Unlock new gear and goodies even faster. PlayStation players that purchase the $20 Battle Pass Bundles will get an additional 5 tier skips. That’s a total of 25 tier skips!
- PlayStation Party Bonus: Teamwork makes the dream work. PlayStation players that play together in parties receive +25% bonus weapon XP. The bonus still counts when playing with cross-platform teammates.
- Double XP Bonus: PlayStation players can look forward to exclusive Monthly Double XP events (24 hr duration), so prepare to boost your rank.
- Extra Loadouts: Be prepared for any scenario. PlayStation players get an additional 2 loadout slots, ready for customization. Available when Create-A-Class unlocks upon reaching Level 4.
This topic blew up in the Xbox One Reddit community yesterday, with fans calling the move "ridiculous" and "upsetting", leading to some even suggesting they might boycott the game entirely.

Yet you'll probably still buy it. If you do, you have no right to complain because you still support them for treating you as a 2nd class citizen.
Get less for the same price.
Insignificant, short term anti-consumer deals like this doesn’t really matter in the long run. Microsoft has moved on now from doing these time limited primitive minded deals and instead focusing on long term vision in building the best ecosystem.
Exclusive rights are a self fulfilling prophecy. Publishers give these rights to the platforms that are expected to sell the most copies of their games. When all other platform holders refuse to buy their watered down games the publishers use it to justify their actions. It's ridiculous.
I would like to see how many people actually switch consoles because of these silly tactics. Do they really think that double xp is going to convince people to buy a $300-$500 console for it?
This is just ridiculous tbh.
The extra load slots seems to be the only one that really matters (a little anyway, and to me). But even that isn't that big of a deal. That said I like COD, but I'm not a massive player of it.
I think no access to a whole game mode is the scummy thing.
@Senua "time limited primitive minded deals"
Perfectly put
@RedShirtRod You'd be surprised. People who primary play CoD will go with the console that has the better CoD deal. Not only that but reviewers who want to have a complete review will have to get a PS5 to be complete with their reviews.
@RedShirtRod it is probably less tactic to convince people to switch but more to convince people to stay. The upcoming gen its Xbox who wants more converts than PlayStation considering the sizes of player base. Sony just wants to add more reasons for you to remain loyal where as Microsoft are pushing for no loyalty to specific hardware. This will work for a lot of the casuals playing Fifa, Cod, Fortnight etc.
I think this is very shortsighted but that being said I agree with Senua in that in the longterm it won't matter. This is just an early adopters bonus essentially. I admit I do play CoD and bonuses like this won't stop me from tearing through everyone in matches 🤣
It really is a middle finger to anyone who's not playing on the platform getting the exclusive content. Ok, Activision wants to take Sony's money for putting exclusive content in the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game, and that's fine, but why should Xbox players have to pay the same amount of money for less game? Back when the shoe was on the other foot and it was Xbox 360 getting exclusive stuff, at least the period of exclusivity was only 30 days. By November 2021 the new COD will be out and the content coming to Xbox One and Series X/S will be both pointless and worthless because everyone will have moved on to the new game.
And this was the first time in years I was actually interested in Call of Duty, what with Raven developing the campaign.
So glad I cancelled my pre-order during the beta.
Just vote with your wallets guys and don't buy it. More than enough to play and Activision doesn't deserve the support.
I can see why it's unfair but it cod who cares woop te do they will level up faster some weekends and 2 extra loadout slots haha I would be fine with less than we are given as it is... Does anyone really care? , it doesn't bother me in the slightest when it comes to actually playing the game, I think it's pretty hilarious if they have payed big bucks for such poor exclusive contents
@Dreamwalker7777
My thoughts exactly. What is up with people nowadays? Complaining about ridiculous stuff. It's not like the game is exclusive.
And yet it will still sale on PC and Xbox. I mean at this point Activision could give the entire subsection of the game to Sony, and it won’t matter people will still buy the game on the other two platforms o.O I don’t get it....
The last Call of Duty game I bought was Ghosts. Looks like this one isn’t going to bring me back into the series.
Really don't care am turning cross play off anyway cause of all the cheaters on PC with the wall hacks etc...
Ps5 is the official console of 13yo casuals, confirmed!
Therefor all the Bethesda games needs to be exclusive.
This will be the first time I have skipped a Call of Duty since the Modern Warfare 3 drama. Yuck. I liked last years COD better than what I saw in this beta anyway, I’ll just keep playing that if I get the itch.
I don't play online so not too bothered by this. Sony have come out swinging with the timed exclusives, which will look paltry in comparison to the actual Xbox exclusives releasing soon. Let Sony waste their money, Microsoft spent it where it counts most. On games and their studios.
I don't play COD, but can someone explain why someone would buy this for the multiplayer when you can play Warzone for free?
They have terrible support for the XBOX Series X (you need to buy an XBOX Series X version of the game) and they offer exclusive ingame benefits to PlayStaion players?
Well, this just reassures that I'm going to skip this.
@Dreamwalker7777
Exactly. Just boycott the game. I won’t be buying this.
To me, the COD series died when the Modern Warfare (the REAL Infinity Ward) trilogy ended. The series hasn’t been the same since. And I have zero interest in the multiplayer, especially with all the storage space each game eats up on your hard drive.
If we don't get mad about MS buying Bethesda, why should we get mad about this? It's business, they're not each other's friends.
Just vote with your wallets. Moaning online doesn't matter a damn.
@Tasuki I can see it at the start of a new console generation but if I recall right this happened last year is well. If you haven't grabbed a console for the COD's that came out the first few years I don't get why you'd change it up now. Maybe it's competing for those who own both?
@IronMan30 it's the selling a lower quality game for the same price that gets me. I'm cool if companies buy the exclusive rights for a game. The publishers already made up their mind that they've lost the business of those console players who don't have their specific console. What I don't like is companies thinking it's ok to charge two different groups the same price for different qualities of games. I'm not paying full price for a game that is holding stuff back because I decided to buy an xbox instead of a playstation.
@IronMan30 Precisely. The next gen enhancements for the new Yakuza - time limited to Xbox.
They are all at it whether we like it or not. Yay capitalism.
@IronMan30
Not the same comparison. These are 3rd party cross-platform games with cross-play. You are giving one platform a specific advantage over the other then expect them to want to compete with each other on cross-play. You are also selling a game that is "timed" to have less content on one platform than another for the same price. Just like with Spiderman on Avengers game, this is just sleezy business practice. This is not the same as having 1st party exclusive games through buying an entire studio.
Looking at those perks, still won’t help anyone shoot any better or faster.
Pretty Simple...i ain't buying this. I might get a rental from the local library to play it but no money will be leaving my pocket for this.
@Trmn8r @RedShirtRod
Exactly! This is a sleazy move that should not be supported. And I would say the same if it was Xbox doing it.
We are expected to pay the same $ for a game, but with less features? Get the ?!$& out of here with that nonsense. People making excuses for this need to get a grip on reality.
@Johnnel I’m with ya. The last one I played was call of duty 2, the first cod released on the 360 lol and this definitely won’t bring me back
@IronMan30 I’ve said this at least once before. There is a difference between an entire game getting walled off either timed or permanent and a publisher selling the same game for the same price with less content.
Even in the case of Yakuza, the game is “timed” and being that it’s only for a few months during launch; it is hardly a make or break issue. The same goes for FF16; it is what it is. Neither of these games are missing characters, modes, or anything. The games simply will not be on the platform either for short amount of time or ever. In other words, when the PS5 version of Yakuza comes out it will be the same. When the PC version of FF16 comes out; it will be the same.
But Activision is devaluing the other versions of the game to add value to PS version. And a competitive game at that.
Of all the game people play this wtf
Blame MS for not wanting to buy exclusive content. It's already been said, by a former game informer journalist, this is only the beginning for ps5 exclusive content
We need to vote with our wallets. Companies want accept exclusivity deal but still want to take their share of profit from the competing platform. Stop supporting this terrible practices. If a publisher wants to support a exclusivity deal, fine, but be willing to forfeit the profit coming from the other side. Not releasing an inferior version
I didn’t buy Avengers for this reason. Will gladly pass on this as well
In cases like this I always wait until a year or two down the road to buy the game during a major sale with all DLC for cheap, just out of spite. I'll never pay close to full price for games treated in this manner. I have way too many back log games to keep me busy so it's easy to wait for sales down the road.
All gamers are equal, but some gamers are more equal than others.
You mean people haven't already been boycotting this game since they started the 30 day delays on maps for xbox? I guess I started boycotting this game too early then...
Why is there a Battle Pass in a $70 release game? Enough is Enough, I am tired of Activision's greed and refuse to support any of their greedy releases. Last Activision game I bought was Spiro Reignited. Last call of duty was Advanced Warfare, the series has gone completely downhill since the PS3 and 360 glory days.
I am happy I bought a Xbox instead of a Playstaion. Bill Gates should be entitled "the great Bill Gates" for his unexpected advancement of the English language worldwide. Sony on the other hand is huge supporter of the RIAA . Those folks that believe all music and art should be commercial. They would rat you out for downloading an image that you didn't pay for in advance.
I gave up on COD many seasons ago, so I care little for this!
