Re: These 10+ Games Are Coming To Xbox Next Week (July 28-August 1)

Excited to jump into Grounded 2. Even though I just started up a server on Abiotic Factor, another Gamepass game I highly recommend, game is a ton of fun. And I have been delving into Killing Floor 3. Too many great co op games coming out. Still haven’t been able to give Wildgate or Holdfast a go yet. 😅

@Fiendish-Beaver man I can’t imagine playing games that way. I tried out Expedition 33 because everybody was praising it and thought it was boring, I struggled to get through Act 1 trying to find out what the big deal on the game was. Meanwhile last night I just had a blast playing Killing Floor 3 for 4 hrs straight with my buddies. Another one I will throw on there is Death Stranding, absolute borefest for me, but seems to be getting praised everywhere. I already have Painkiller, Borderlands 4 and Outer Worlds 2 preordered because those game I know I will love regardless of what the internet will try to tell me.

@Fiendish-Beaver I do not agree. I have a style of games that I absolutely adore. I take Fallout 76 as a prime example I love the game and it reviewed very poorly. That’s why I tell people if a game looks like fun to you don’t let anybody tell you to dislike it. It’s actually a big reason a lot of these games are failing, people and media dissuade others from playing games now.

Re: Is Xbox Game Pass Unsustainable? Arkane Founder Sparks Huge Debate On Social Media

@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah, a lot of what’s happening still feels speculative, but there are some clear industry-wide trends at play. Rising development costs, bloated budgets, and shifting business models are creating a kind of perfect storm for game publishers. I try to keep context in mind, like comparing the size of the companies involved. For example, when Sony laid off about 900 employees earlier this year, it hit around 7.5% of their PlayStation workforce (which is roughly 12,000 people). Microsoft’s Gaming division, on the other hand, has about 22,000 employees, so their recent layoff of around 1,900 people in early 2024 was closer to 8-9%, and their July 2025 cuts brought the total well past 4,000 across multiple waves.

So while percentages matter, the raw numbers and frequency at Microsoft make it feel much more aggressive. And unfortunately, I get the feeling this won’t be the last round for either company. Between free-to-play pressure, Games-as-a-Service struggles, Game Pass sustainability questions, ballooning dev budgets, and uneven sales, something is clearly broken. The layoffs and studio closures are getting hard to keep track of…

@Fiendish-Beaver I thought subscriber numbers have been going up this year? There has been price hikes across the entire market so that is why I wouldn’t say it’s indicative of sustainability as much as just rising costs. I mean even Netflix has pretty regular price hikes and they are definitely not struggling, but rising costs will always get passed onto the consumer.

@Fiendish-Beaver Gamepass price raises I don’t think are indicative of how sustainable it is that’s just rising costs to market, I believe.

Now your second point nails what I think to be true. There is also the point that if Gamepass is doing enough to stay alive it’s cutting into software sales on their own ecosystem, which is a loss. There is also the loss of hardware sales. So really are the financial pluses of Gamepass offsetting those loses? Nobody knows because numbers are never released publicly or at least not that I have seen.

Re: Microsoft Said To Have 'Unrealistic' Expectations For Xbox, But Not Everyone Agrees

Xbox owns a lot of my favorite franchises. It’s pretty brutal to see all this happening and I’m hoping they can pull out of this somehow. Whether that is through their current strategy or scrapping Gamepass altogether, but I think they are way too invested to just scrap it and that may lead to even more layoffs and cancellations. The $80 price tag on The Outer Worlds 2 is not going to help.
